Aprilaire 800?

Live in a two year old home in the northeast with hardwood floors. The present bypass humidifer is insufficient for maintaining RH during winter and considering an Aprilaire 800 series for steam. Want the humidifier to run if RH is low even if heat is not cycled on, and want to be able to monitor when away through an app. Is this a good choice, or can others recommend others? Thanks.

Help/advise needed for ultrasonic humidifiers white dust problem

Hello people,

Indoor summer humidity in my city/apartment drops to 10% and my goal is to maintain at least 30–35%.

My first attempt was optimistic of buying desktop 3 liter humidifiers. Used to ran them 24x7 but humidity barely moved on my meter. Small tank required frequent filling and cleaning until I decided to go for larger humidifiers.

Second and current attempt was a replacement of small ones with three units of 25 liters each which helped me elevate indoor humidity to 25-27% level, still below my target but then I started to note some strange white-power all over the furniture, inside PC, on TV screens, even inside the glass bed of my scanner which is literally impossible to penetrate and impossible to clean unless I disassemble whole scanner to get under the glass.

A bit of Googling/Reddting reveal that tap water is the culprit (which is heavy) and many people suggested either going for "evaporative humidifiers" (something I didn't knew and it's too late anyways as I have invested $300 in 25L humidifiers). I noted some people suggesting the use of distilled water but it's not affordable in my case because I need 75 liters (25 x 3) water refill daily so my costs will just skyrocket.

I Googled and used GPTs to seek options and only cost effective outcome is under-sink RO system because according to these tools things like activated charcoal, descale resins, demineralization cartridges won't help, and so on. Now before I invest time, money and efforts in RO system, did anyone tried this solution or have some advise before I go for RO system?

Thanks.

VENTA LW15 humidifier tests: disappointing.

Just wanted to share quick test results of a VENTA LW15 humidifier I bought from the manufacturer. I understand that currently there are many copies of it available from Asia, so maybe this will be used for someone on this sub. I used basic testing equipment for the tests -- gauges and anemometers.

I found that the only room in which the LW15 could move the humidity up (by 10% in a couple of hours) was 3 x 2 x 2.4 m = ~14.4 m (~120 sq ft). The key is that the room had to have no ventilation (a gasket-sealed door). Any minimal air exchange/ventilation relevant for human comfort ( removal of CO2, supply of O2) -- e.g. 0.5 air volumes per hr -- made the humidity increases by the LW15 negligible (not even 2%). This is disappointing, b.c. the unit is claimed to be "optimized" for 25m^2 (~270 sq ft). I guess if one slept in a sealed 25m^2 room, with no ventilation, it might move the humidity up. And half of that humidity would come from one's own breath.

Looking at the fins of the drum, they seem to be made of polypropylene which looks quite hydrophobic and the water rolls right off the fins back down. If they made the fins of some hydrophilic material (metal, spongy material etc), it might have worked better.

I missed the amazon return date, so I am stuck with the Venta. Maybe will use it in a storage unit.

Thanks for reading!
