Best bang for buck kit under $1000 in 2026?

Originally, I had a Pearl Maple acoustic about 15 years ago and used that for 2-3 years. Sold it due to size and noise issues after moving. Took a long break, then about 5 years ago I picked up an Alesis Surge Mesh kit on deep discount, knowing it isn't particularly great but it got me back into drumming (and through covid). I'm no expert but I like to think I am not a beginner.

Now I am looking for a kit and its a whole ratsnest of options. I see the Alesis Nitro Pro XL pop up a lot, its right at $800 from GC. I also see people mention kit from Roland and Yamaha a lot, but then it seems you are spending $1500+. Unfortunately, my used market prices kits like 10% off retail which is absurd.

Summit 2: Positive Velotric customer service experience

I want to preface this by saying that I am a real customer and I went through hell picking an eBike.

When I was shopping for an eBike to use as a commuter, I was looking at a lot of brands and models. It came down to the Summit 2 and the Ride1Up Vorsa, and my main hesitation with the Summit was all the horrible experiences I have read about Velotric's customer service.

My summit 2 has had problems shifting since I got it, specifically it refuses to shift out of the largest cog (gear 1) and requires you to go to gear 3 and back to 2. The front suspension also was leaking oil all over the stancions, then started clunking and the lockout doesnt work.

I emailed Velotric about this 4 days ago, and they wanted some info from me (frame number, address, a short video of each problem) and the next day they gave me the tracking info for a new derailleur and fork. They also offered to reimburse me for any bike shop costs.

Whether or not the new fork will fail again, I dont know. But I am very surprised at how responsive and helpful Velotric has been thusfar after everything I read online.

Today I learned the master link of a chain is a different material than the chain irself

Had the master off doing some work and it had some mineral build up so I cleaned it with dilute vinegar, came out spotless and looked brand new. Decided to do the same to the chain and within 30 seconds it turned black and is now rusting.

Stupid mistake, the chain was 2 weeks old so a $30 lesson learned.

RST Air fork leaking and clunking on 3 week old Summit 2

I have a summit 2 that has been used 3 times since I bought it 3 weeks ago, and all on pavement as a commuter bike. Despite this, the forks are always covered in oil and are starting to rattle and clunk over the smallest bumps. The lockout also no longer does anything whatsoever.

I will be filing a warranty claim, thought I'd post this to get it out there and see if anyone else has this issue with the RST Air.
