Randolph

A video came up on my newsfeed with all of the Randolph graduating seniors. For a school that charges so much, I was surprised by how ordinary their college choices are. The majority were state schools in the south with high acceptance rates. Aside from one student whose shirt said they were going to Columbia University and one going to UCLA, the rest were schools who let the majority of applicants in. I feel like our local public schools have graduates going to more competitive universities.

Buyer Beware: Hiley VW Service

I wanted to share my experience because I fear anyone less knowledgeable may fall prey to the tactics described below.
TLDR: Hiley VW insisted my brand new battery was faulty, without evidence or reason, simply because I replaced it and refused to do any work until I decided to replace the perfectly fine part for $366 (on top of the diagnostic I wanted).

Full story:
I brought my 2015 Passat SE here for intermittent starting issues and wheel speed sensor codes. Before bringing it in, I installed a brand-new, fully charged battery, which improved but did not fully resolve the starting issue.
Instead of performing diagnostics, the service department demanded I buy a $366 OEM Volkswagen battery on top of their $205 diagnostic fee before they would even begin. When I asked for proof that my new battery was faulty, they insinuated that because I changed it myself, I likely "damaged the ECU" or "put it in backwards" (which would have caused an immediate fire). This intimidation tactic allows them to guess at repairs rather than diagnose them.
In reality, the car started 100% of the time with a jump pack, proving the ECU was perfectly fine. They refused to consider known starting issues for this model year and falsely claimed they couldn't diagnose the wheel speed sensor without a new battery.
When I stood my ground and required data or evidence of damage before permitting the battery work, they refused. They easily could have run a starter amperage draw test, a voltage drop test on the ground cables, or scanned the sensor via VW ODIS software. Once they realized they couldn't exploit me, they suddenly backed down, waived the $205 fee, and told me to pick up my vehicle.
They clearly used common tactics to push unneeded parts and labor. They refused to actually test my battery because doing so would cross the line into auto repair fraud. If you use this department, know your rights, demand hard data, and never divulge that you did your own minor maintenance.
To make matters worse, my wife bought her car here and has to constantly babysit them just to get callbacks for warranty appointments. The sales team was fine, but we will be driving to Chattanooga for any future VW needs when her warranty expires.

Local Filipino Food (Malou’s Kusina) is finally open!! 😋💃🏻🍽️

Was nearby and thought I’d drive-by to see where Suite J (their address) was amongst the other retailers at 9076 Madison Blvd., and was pleasantly surprised to see the OPEN sign lit up at Malou’s Kusina this afternoon! So I quickly parked and walked in.

The former Indian Palace sign is still up top where MK now resides. Although I was a lil’ discouraged to see all tables empty upon entry, the workers immediately welcomed me ready to take my order. Unfortunately, I had just picked up lunch nearby so I didn’t order anything during this afternoon’s visit. As I quickly browsed their menu, asked a few Qs (today is their 1st day open!!), captured the attached menu photos, they recommend placing orders online for take out, or to come in and order for dining in. There’s lots of items to choose from!

Didn’t get the honor of meeting Malou herself as she was busy in the back prep’g food and such. So I proceeded to thank the kind workers and said I’d be back real soon w a group of friends.

Anywho, if you’re craving Filipino food and don’t have dinner plans tonight or lunch plans tomorrow, definitely pay them a visit.

Biz hours… 1030a to 8p Tue-Sun, Closed Mondays

I know the 1st thing I’ll be ordering is some Diniguan! 😋 IYKYK 😉🤓💃🏻👊🏼🌺

Edited to include biz hours.

Why are there 19 cop cars at the Constellation Starbucks?

I thought...hmm, that's weird. But, I *did* order a coffee so I'll just turn in this driveway...

"NO! NO! GO!" the nice law enforcement officer calmly said while charging at me. So, of course I threw it in reverse and drove on. Maybe later, coffee.

Places to volunteer

Moving Huntsville soon. I’d like to get involved in the community from the get-go. I have over a decade of volunteer experience in various settings such as homeless shelters, addiction recovery centers and food pantries. Any suggestions on reputable organizations who could use volunteers?

Here's the real raw picture for the mail in Huntsville: How would you feel if your employer told you on the Monday before Thanksgiving that you suddenly had to work Thanksgiving Day? How would you feel if Christmas, New Year’s, birthdays, weddings, funerals, your child's graduation, Mother's Day, Father's Day, your child being sick, or even the birth of your grandbaby could all be ripped away from you at the last minute because management demanded you come in or face discipline, loss of pay, or write-ups? How about your planned vacation canceled? Or if you are a rural carrier, no vacation or time off approved for over a year? Or how would you feel if your job put you in the emergency room for a near heart attack and they are calling you asking if you be back at work? That is the reality many Huntsville postal employees live with constantly. People are exhausted. They are overworked, understaffed, and burned out. Many work extreme hours for days and weeks at a time. Some miss major life events because they are terrified of retaliation if they say no. And when employees try to report what’s happening to the people above the local Postmaster, nothing changes. Complaints disappear into silence while conditions continue getting worse. The public sees delayed mail. What employees see is: not enough carriers not enough clerks supervisors stretched beyond capacity constant turnover and not even enough mail vehicles for fully staffed offices to deliver mail People move to Huntsville thinking they’re starting a better life and career, only to realize how severe the conditions are. Many leave as quickly as they can. Others transfer elsewhere and immediately start calling former coworkers saying, “Get out if you can. It’s so much better here.” And that reputation spreads. Employees who leave Huntsville tell people in other states how bad conditions are here, which means fewer experienced workers are willing to transfer in. Word travels fast through the Postal Service. People hear about the mandatory overtime, constant chaos, lack of staffing, lack of vehicles, and burnout, and many decide they do not want to come to Huntsville at all. They had to offer incentives to get people from other states to come work in Huntsville temporarily for the month of December. Those poor workers were mortified at how this city's postal service is ran which means this is a Huntsville problem. That makes the staffing crisis even worse. And because the system is built on layers of management protecting metrics, employees are often pressured to “stop the clock” on packages so upper management sees clean reports instead of operational failures. That means scans like: “delivered” “no access” “mailbox obstructed” “customer unavailable” can sometimes be used to prevent failures from appearing in reports — even when the real issue is understaffing, impossible workloads, lack of vehicles, or management pressure. The public deserves the truth. Postal workers are trying to survive inside a system that is breaking them while leadership continues pretending everything is fine. Btw, local Station Mangers and Supervisors are constantly out delivering the mail instead of managing the Post Office. Please, contact Dale Strong. Burn his phone and email up. Stand up for your post office and your delivery that is important to you. Enough is enough. Stop the cover up! Stop upper management's bonuses for making it look like your mail got delivered off by the poor people they don't pay enough and abuse them like slaves. PS. If you knew how many fines they paid out constantly, you'd understand why the post office is bankrupt.

First time to Guntersville at 38 weeks pregnant

How good or bad idea is it to strut to Guntersville this weekend for a day trip if we have never been, and I am 38 weeks pregnant? I have not had any major issues, my L&D is supposed to be at Madison Hospital.
