Camping Spots over TT

Howdy all!

We're at our wits end so want to consult the hive mind - Me and a small group of friends are looking for a spot to camp for a night or 2 over TT, couple of camper vans and the odd tent.

Ideally we'd like a spot either close to the races or near a beach. Campsites are out the question given the time of year. Somewhere we can chill with music and beers (a fire pit if we can) and enjoy a bit of down time without disturbing anyone - we're work collegues and it's the only time of year we all get off at the same time. 20 to 40 year olds, no nonsense.

Anyone got any idea's or spots that jump to mind? Even a scraty bit of land a farmer has would do, would be left better than we found it.

Cheers!

EDIT: We are local lads

Meeting new people

Hi peeps,

As most of you know, meeting people here is hard. Especially when you’ve moved without knowing anyone…

I’ve been here for about a year and I’ve basically met no one to hang out with outside of group events ect…

If anyone would be down to meet to do anything, give us a shout.

I’m obviously a first time Reddit poster, but I’m starting to loose my mind.

On the flip side, if anyone has any suggestions, please fire them away.

EDIT: based on some recommendations below;

Male, early 20s, into cars and motorbikes (which helps). I’m starting to get into clay pigeon shooting. I am involved with some outdoors clubs however as above I do not meet outside of those club times, mainly due to their commitments elsewhere. I haven’t discovered other hobbies on the island yet, I can be quite awkward around new people, this doesn’t help as you could imagine. I’m open to anything regarding hobbies.

Late 19th century language map of Britain and Ireland

Separate point, it’s only really recently that Wales and Welsh has been standardised in English.

Often you find terms like - Cymric, Cambrian, British used very frequently in Victoria texts.

IoM TT ‘27 Planning

I live in America where it cost about $2000 just to cover travel to and from the Island. Hoping to get a stay somewhere without breaking the bank. I’m a 6’ sophisticated redhead Caucasian male that rides motorcycles and is employed at Ford.

Thanks in advance :)

Actual Manx Rock?

Hi just a quick post. I am on the hunt for the traditional square Manx Rock, however no one in Douglas seems to stock it any more. Can anyone help me to find some please? It's a gift and not only does Manx rock look different it actually tastes a lot better than other rock.

Castle Rushen or Peel Castle

Hi there!

I will be visiting your precious island and I have a question regarding which castle to visit - the Rushen or the Peel one. I heard that Castle Rushen is a reconstruction of a typical medieval castle, whilst Peel castle is a big kempt ruin with chapels and graves. I was wondering which place will offer me more actual history of the island, as I would like to see things like Ogham stones, rune stones and coins from the Kingdom of Sodor and Mann. Btw I will also visit the Manx museum. Thank You for all answers!!!!

Isle of Man trip suggestions

Hi there!

I am going to visit your beautiful island in July this year. I will spend 4 days on the island and below is a rough plan of what I am planning to see:

Day 1: Early arrival at Ronaldsway airport and bus to Douglas, which I will explore that day.

Day 2: Steam Railway from Douglas to Castletown and exploring Castletown with Castle Rushen. Then I will head over to Port Saint Mary, Port Erin and Cregneash for a nice long walk and open air Cregneash museum.

Day 3: Bus from Douglas to Peel and exploration of the town. Then I will head to Douglas from where I will go to Laxey.

Day 4: Either a hiking trip to Snaefell or a trip in the Ramsey/Maughold area to see things like Cashtal yn Ard and Maughold's well.

Now my question is: will I be able to complete such a plan and is it good? I tried to pair the island's history/heritage with it's nature in order to fully explore it.

Thank You for all answers!!!!

From the IoM and thinking of coming back for a trip

As the title suggests I was born and raised on the Isle of Man until my parents left when I was 16 - I haven't been back since (and this was 14 years ago now!)

I am thinking of doing a trip back for a few days staying in my van in June (after the TT).

How much have things changed or not in this time? Should it be fairly easy to park up and stay in more remote spots (its a converted panel van)?

Also, I'd love any tips or ideas of where to go! Thinking of more remote spots that I didn't appreciate as a kid, I don't need to ride the steam train again! I also love kite surfing and surfing - neither of which I did while I was on the island.

Hiya rent and expensive help!

Hello everyone. Biker from kuwait. Sadly would be a dream to have my bike(zx6r) here but it would be too expensive and im afraid of it being stolen(im in brum). So since im studying here I want to visit isle of man and maybe try the course there ?

I have no idea if there is renting there and how will it go? Anyone from Birmingham as any areas around here or tracks available? Isle of man is a dream and id hate to miss it if its bring your own bike. Second if there is renting there will it be a problem if my english name is spelled differently on licence than passport(arabic name spelled the same)?

3rd how much will it cost?

Bulgarian TT fan trying to survive his first Isle of Man TT trip next year - locals, please help me not screw this up 😅

Hey everyone!

I’m finally planning my first ever trip to the Isle of Man TT next year and honestly… I’m ridiculously excited about it.

I’ll be flying from Bulgaria, and since I’ve never been to the island before, I thought I’d ask the people who actually know what they’re doing instead of trusting random travel blogs written by someone who visited once in 2014 😄

The TT has been on my bucket list for years and I really want to do this properly, not arrive completely unprepared and realize too late that everything was supposed to be booked 11 months ago.

So I’m basically here begging the locals and experienced TT visitors for advice, warnings, survival tips, rookie mistakes to avoid, or literally anything you think first-timers should know.

Some things I’m trying to figure out:

  • What’s the smartest way to get to the island from Europe/Bulgaria?
  • Which UK airports are easiest to transfer through?
  • Ferry vs flights - what do most people recommend?
  • How insane does accommodation get during TT?
  • How early do ferries/hotels/rental cars need to be booked?
  • Is renting a car worth it or is public transport good enough?
  • How well developed is the public transport system around the island during TT? Can you realistically move around easily without a car?
  • Are taxis impossible during race days?
  • Which areas are best to stay in for first-timers?
  • What are the best viewing spots around the course?
  • Any places that are overrated or tourist traps?
  • How chaotic are road closures REALLY?
  • What’s the weather usually like during TT? (I’ve heard “all 4 seasons in one day” 😅)

One thing I’d especially love help understanding is the full travel logistics.

Since I’ll be flying from Bulgaria, I’m still confused about what the “normal” route is for TT visitors:
Fly to Manchester/Liverpool → ferry?
Direct flight to the island?
Stay overnight before the ferry?
How painful is the whole process during TT week?

Also:

  • are ferries hard to book?
  • does luggage become a nightmare?
  • do rental cars disappear instantly?
  • how early should I realistically organize everything?

Basically imagine you’re explaining TT week to an excited idiot from Bulgaria trying not to accidentally ruin his dream trip 😂

Would massively appreciate any advice, hidden tips, local knowledge, food/pub recommendations, transport hacks, or general “DON’T DO THIS” warnings.

Thanks in advance - hopefully next year I’ll finally get to experience the madness in person instead of watching from home every year.

Cheers from Bulgaria 🍻

Ferries

I will be traveling to the Isle of man in 2 weeks for the TT. From my research, the ferries are all booked up. 2 passengers with luggage. I need to get from Liverpool to the Isle on the 29th and from the Isle to Belfast on the 30th. Is there like private for hire people who can do this for us? If so, where can we find them? TIA!

Launchpad Talk on 20 May: how a frustrated newcomer built a transit app for the Island solo with AI

Heads up if anyone's interested — we're hosting a talk at Launchpad on Wednesday 20 May at 5:30pm and I think it's going to be a good one.

Itamar moved to the Island, couldn't figure out the buses on his first day (he was trying to get to McDonald's, of all places), and eventually built Kivoon — a public transit app for the Isle of Man with timetables, live tracking, and an automated content engine. Solo, over a few weekends, with Claude doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

He's going to walk through the whole build — parsing the raw GTFS data, the prompts that worked, the bits that broke, and the self-improvement loop that's keeping the app getting better on its own.

Free, all welcome. Disclosure: I manage Launchpad, so I'm obviously biased about coming along, but I wanted to flag it for anyone here who'd find it interesting.

Limited seats. Register now: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/from-hungry-to-shipped-building-kivoon-solo-with-claude-tickets-1989307670794?aff=oddtdtcreator

CSP’s for registered address service

Hi, hope you are all good.

I’m looking to establish a 1931 act company on the Isle of Man, and just wondered if anybody had any recommendations for registered address services by local CSP’s?

Alternatively if anybody offers this service on the side, I’d be interesting in chatting.

(I’m a resident on the IOM)
