Cole is too humble for his own good and hurt his own career
I feel like the timing was off for Cole.
In his Simba days, he would have folded up the competition in any beef. It wouldn’t matter who Cole was up against in 2014 FHD era. He had that swagger, the arrogance, the cock. This is the dude that intentionally went album for album against Yeezus and outsold dude.
But as he got older, his self-reflection and the energy around him made him averse to negative energy. Cole knew the beef was manufactured. The meat was processed. All to drive engagement and sales by the other side. After peer pressure from fans and friends, he sparred a bit, realized it wasn’t himself and bowed out gracefully.
But this also hurt The Fall-Off. The lack of music videos, the lack of hype even though it was supposed to be his magnum opus. I wish he really put the effort into the business side half as much as the effort in the crafting of the album. Cole’s dedication to the craft also hurt his beat selection, the wider appeal as he focused on the details too much. Focusing on the trees rather than the whole forest.
Physically taping the album is another example; a detail that 99% of the audience would not know or appreciate but he took months to execute it. I feel like that effort could have been better spent on visuals or the roll-out.
Cole is too good to not market it and hit a wider demographic. He’s too humble for his own good
DRAKE STANS GET OUT OF HERE PLZ
We get it you're still mad over the 2024 beef and you think Iceman is the greatest album of all time. Go to r/Drizzy. This subreddit is for J. Cole
Like literally the post before this one is "Who tf still listens to the fall off, the boy has taken over 2026"
They big mad lol
They big mad Cole's winning, but it's the truth.
Undeniably THE BEST right now
Now that all the big 3 have dropped, it's crystal clear who the best rapper right now is and it's not even remotely close. Even besides the big 3 conversation, just thinking about the best or most popular rap albums from like the past 5 or more years, NONE can even touch The Fall Off (Yes including The Forever Story). And it's only been a few months of it. I imagine it will only get better with time. There is NO ONE out rapping like him and making quality, unique, and timeless music like him
Edit: Now time to wait for actual J. Cole fans to show up in r/JCole lmao. Why tf are Drake and Kendrick stans so obsessed with this subreddit
Fall off
I don't think any other 'Middle Child' era rapper (like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, or J.I.D) will ever release an album quite like The Fall Off. Even if they do try, it won't match the sheer scale of J. Cole's influence or caliber. He really pulled it off.
P.s
I'm still learning about hip-hop history, so I'm completely open to different perspectives and would love to discuss this with seasoned hip-hop veterans. Thanks!
A Golden year for the big 3?
Can we all just step back for a moment and appreciate the amazing art we have been given this year?
First we get a 10/10 album with TFO with some of J Cole's best work and a world tour off the back of it. Banger after banger, I think it might be my favorite out of his body of work. And not to forget the freestyles before the release.
Next we get Drake with an incredible project with Iceman. I will say its been less than a week and we really haven't had time to let it simmer but it feels like its up there with some of the best of his work.
Going with the 2 year cycle we should see another Kendrick project this year too. With the form he was on with the last one I'm expecting something huge.
We won't know how good we have it now till they stop or "fall off". Instead of shitting on the other big 2 can't we just appreciate all of them? I'm thinking we will be looking back on this year like an incredible moment in rap.
Crazy theory about “What If” after ICEMAN bars
Guys please don’t jump me for this, but with what Drake is saying about Cole essentially abandoning him and what we know about Kendrick and Cole’s wives being close, etc etc, does anyone else think it’s possible “What If” resembles a conversation between Cole and Drake?
Listen really close to it from the mindset of this being dialogue between them two instead of Kendrick and Drake, or Cole and Kendrick, and the bars start to feel a lot more parallel than any other dynamic. I might get jumped but please have an open mind and give it a try! He also alludes to beef essentially being toxic and amplified by media of course that’s an overarching theme but…
I went with the Cole and Kenny theory initially too with the NY and West Coast links for each artist plus some of the initial bars. However, when you dig into the verses, verse 1 talks about how he “should’ve checked in” and “didn’t do what he was supposed to” which is what Drake is saying Cole didn’t do, and also especially verse 2 which is the Pac part, it really seems like something Drake would say to Cole. About how he’s “moving off of adrenaline” and doesn’t know who to trust, I didn’t want to drag you into it and “I take the blame for it etc etc”.
I can’t really see Cole and Kendrick discussing things like this just from an outward POV.
Walk with me people lol!
The Old Dog & Who TF IZ U intro lyrics are wrong.
For the intro for both of these songs it sounds like he’s saying
“It’s a now known number, so you know a nigga zapped“
But for every lyric description it says “910 number“ ? is anyone else hearing what I’m hearing and not 910 at all??
Is J Cole a gamer?
I know he called himself a geek on Poor thang, but is he a gamer?
There's a couple of Mario bros. references:
"Dodge shells collect coins like i'm Mario, but this is not a gaming experience, i'm serious" cLOUDs
"I'm Koopa i never been the Mario type"
Troubles
"Could put an M right on your head, You Luigi brother now"
95.south
Maybe a couple more that i can't remembrr right now. But tbf You don't have te be a gamer to make those references. I mean, everyone knows Mario bros.
But there's also a Sims reference on TFO
"This life is like it's all set up for God to play The Sims"
The villest
To me this is still a mainstream reference, but maybe a little deeper in terms of gaming.
The one reference that make think that Cole is a real gamer it's on TOS:
"Big Boss, less Rick Ross more like a wavy Hideo Kojima"
Applying.pressure
I mean ik Kojima is kinda known outside the gaming world, but the Big Boss reference made me think that he actually played MGS3, ik Kojima or Mgs are not a niche reference but it's not a mainstream reference either. Idk if there's some other gaming references or if he talks about this on interviews or something.
If there's any other gaming references lmk
Btw sorry about my English, tried my best.
Yo where are the music videos?
For real only one MV? It can't be, no music video for the let out is nuts.
How done is J. Cole?
So, TFO is officially out and has been for a bit now, and it is his final studio album, however, I'm not super tapped in, but based on the theme, lyrics and energy of the final few songs of Disc 39, it didn't seem to me like Cole was saying bye to the rap game, especially so in I Love Her Again.
What more will come? Will he keep up his features?
Is it just the studio albums that are over, but could we still get singles, EPs, mixtapes?
I know there's the other long awaited project, "It's a Boy", which it seems he's said will drop eventually, but do we know what timeframe (apart from the rumour it will be on January 28th) and what it will consist of in size?
Other than that, has he really teased anything else?
My theory is that Drake spoilt the chances of us ever witnessing a joint Cole & K dot album 💿
What is your theory?
Fall off
Just listened to fall of as a new jcole fan and I really liked it, where does it rank among jcole albums? Is it the best or mid tier or?
Is this how locked down y'all want it to be on this Cole sub?
You can't type Akademics, Drake , Drizzy, dissing Cole , among others without getting flagged and there is no way you can make a post questioning anything that may put Dot into negative light - it's
Kendrick fans are happy with it, If the mods were this strict would it be a better experience for actual J Cole fans?
J. Cole released his best album 20 years after starting his career. That's why he's the GOAT!
You know where Cole surpassed everyone? No artist or at least no rap artist has their last work as their best work, Cole does! No artist has released their best album 20 years after starting their career, Cole did!
That's where he surpassed everyone in the game. One day, they gon' know!!
They're gonna wake up to reality and realise who the real GOAT is. The giant has fallen, graciously! This is the greatest Fall-Off of all time.
