'17 JKU 6 speed hard shifting

As the title says, my girl Betty has a hard time shifting into gear without grinding, unless she's double shifted or at a high rpm (<3000). Currently 126k on the body, unknown on the teams

It was replaced with a "known good transmission with fewer miles than the body" (according to the used car dealership, AFTER I purchased it.) They had bought it at auction with a bad trans.

And suggestions on where to look first? This is my first manual transmission, and I am mechanically inclined.

Productive Weekend

Got a few things checked off the todo list this weekend. I installed the Falcon Nexus EF 2.2 steering stabilizer. I’ve tried out the 3 settings and have been leaving in on medium for around town driving, firm really does stiffen it up, will be useful in longer highway trips. I tried out soft on a short trip, and when they say that it lets you feel more input they are not kidding. I was feeling things through my steering that had me wondering if something was wrong, lol. Also removed the paracord roll bar grab handles for some A-Pillar ones. The roll bar ones were annoying me as they were in my field of view and I found myself trying to look around them. Also they were not very helpful getting into the lofted Jeep. I like these a lot, they are textured, not smooth aluminum and they blend into the A-Pillar so they don’t obstruct my field of view when driving.

2016 Jeep Wrangler tail light wiring question

I bought my Jeep a few years ago from friend. They had a tow hitch installed but no trailer light harness/adapter (they just used it for a bike rack). Yesterday I'm driving and message comes up that the bulb is bad on driver rear. I have a few spares and tried those-- no luck. Running lights work, but no turn signal. Tried on the other side and they work. Even tested them with a 12v source. Bought new ones thinking maybe they're wonky and neither of those work.

I thought maybe the trailer harness has gone bad or something. Hooked up an analog volt meter to the 4 pin trailer connector so I can see the needle swing if the turn signals work on that. Yep, see it swing to 12v then off with the blinker.

So I'm thinking maybe the pigtail/harness is bad going to that light. The first picture/connector looks like the factory harness b/c it goes up into the body (not underneath). The 2nd picture shows black taps going to the light sockets and then underneath the body. I took off the passenger side and same thing on that side. I follow the wiring down and they connect along with a ground connection with an after market spade crimped on. Then it goes up over some cross member and I can't tell were it goes (yet-- it's 110F outside and I gave up for now). I asked the previous owner and he wasn't aware of any wing mods in the back (I have a blue ox towing setup as well in the front).

I was looking to just replace the pig tail/harness from the factory connector to the light socket- everything I see shows a factory style connector right to the sockets. No wiring/taps needed.

So the question is-- are the tail light just connected to the factory harness via something that goes in picture 1?

Edit. I think I figured out what that wiring is. The jeep has a flat tow setup with blue ox etc. there’s a connector up front under the bumper. The tow vehicle powers the tail lights when you’re flat towing it. When the previous owner had that system installed they added the harness and spliced onto the wires going to the sockets. Yuck. Now I have to figure out which wire(s) have a bad connection.

New bumper.

Installed the Nilight bumper on my 2009 JK unlimited . The factory one looked goofy with the Barricade fenders and it was all faded. Install was a breeze and it’s a 1 person install because it’s not that heavy. I’m pretty pleased with the look of it.

Spare tire carrier suggestions

Looking at spare tire carriers. 37” tires is the end goal, 35 currently.
What are some options for body mount, like the metalcloak but not 1900$
The Dv8 style with a cage isn’t horrible if it’s a tighter to the body fit, and better quality.
Would like to find something that I could ideally put on for trips and something I can get some fuel storage on.

Guess my project for this weekend!

More steering & suspension upgrades! Going to add the Falcon Nexus EF 2.2 steering stabilizer and while I’m under the jeep goin to replace the the from and rear track bar bolts with these upgraded 14mm from the frame side front bracket and 9/16 for the rear track bar (the Falcon steering stabilizer uses a special bolt/stud that replaced the front axle side bolt). Got this kit from Ohio Diesel Parts that includes bolts for the front and rear track bars for all JK years. $25 is some pretty cheap insurance against an issue that cause like 80% to 90% of death wobble.

JK ABS module for sale?

I was able to obtain a new ABS module for my 2015 JKU through Stellantis Jeep’s parent company. Replaced it on my own and used JScan to program it. Stellantis had me order it through a local dealership then expedited the order. The dealership told me it would $453 when they ordered it in May 2026, then tried to charge me 1,700 when in came in last week. Literally all they had to do was receive the part place in on the shelf, accept my payment and hand it to me. After the dealership admitted that they had quoted me $453 for the part, they told me they absolutely would not honor the price quoted because the part cost had gone up in the three months it took them to get it. After much complaining they knocked off their “markup” (for receiving it in the mail and handing it to me) and settled on $1,319.00 and my Stellantis case rep has ghosted me. Of course I am still not thrilled with the BS, but at least I have a functioning ABS and cruise again..

Long story short should I just chunk the bad ABS module that I took off or is there a market for it? Would one of these companies that repair them be willing to buy it from me, repair it and resell it? I don’t want to have to deal with getting it repaired and selling it myself. As hard as these are to come by, would this be possible and how much would it be worth?

I think I won?

Was at a red light and someone did not see my brake lights. Other than the spare tire mount being bent, no other damages done to my jeep… can’t say the same for the other car. If you’re considering steel bumpers, this is your sign.

Shocks Question: Bilsteins

Getting Bilsteins (5100s) put on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara (4 dr, not lifted) that has 178,000+km on it.

Hoping it helps with the bounce/boat-like feeling. What else should I expect post-op from a performance and feel perspective?

Soft top sealed again

When I bought my jeep it came with the oem premium soft fop, but it didn’t come with any of the ancillary parts to properly seal it. From the condition of the top and the amount of dust/dirt and sun fading of the cargo area trim I’m certain the previous own left the top off all the time, and so the door surrounds, tail gate bar, and C-pillar mucket seals were all missing. Some of the first parts I bought off eBay were a set of OEM door surrounds from a 2017 and a tail gate bar in great condition. I got these for a great price too, only $260 for both, and the cheapest aftermarket set was close to $400-$500.

It was only after the door surrounds and the tailgate bar arrived that I realized I was missing the mucket seals and had to source those. Well after 2 1/2 weeks the last mucket finally arrived today! I did a quick interiors clean since we had a few bad dust storms roll in the last few days. I cleaned and lubricated the rear window zipper with Bestop cleaner/lubricant and then went about installing the mucket seals and door surrounds. (The tailgate bar was delivered last Friday and I installed it the same day)

I love having the soft top sealed now, much more comfortable in the AZ desert, don’t have to keep the A/C on max all the time. Thankfully the AZ Monsoon was in a bit of a lull, but it looks to be picking up again and now I don’t have to worry about the rain and dust.

Steel bumper winch

Anyone have a factory steel bumper, such as the hard rock, recon or 10th anniversary, with a winch installed? Purchased a warn evo and the warn JL winch plate thinking it would fit since I have the steel bumper. Definitely not the right option... luckily I found out AFTER assembling everything haha. Just bought the Rugged Ridge 11543.15 winch plate which is apparently the right option. I guess some cutting is involved but cant find any videos of it being done. Im sure the instructions will be sufficient but was hoping for some feedback prior to it showing up! In the meantime... im rolling bumperless like a 🤡. Much appreciated!
