So recently (8th May) I bought my first Macodes petola. It seems to be doing fine but I would rather have your opinions. Any advices on taking care is welcome
It's been watered twice since it's with me. Last watering was 16th May and I gently bottom soaked it and carefully poured some water from the top. It's weight rise from ~41g to ~61g, mostly after top watering because it didn't absorbed much water from soaking. The water I use is mix of demineralised water with bottled water for humans (one with low minerals anyway) 50/50.
It's placed in small airy 'greenhouse'. The humidity is between 50-60% (recently closer to 50% due to weather but I'm working on locally increasing it to keep steady 55-60%). Close to balcony south-west window and it have around 30-40 minutes daily of direct light (when sun rays are shining directly at it) around 19:00, otherwise it's just light room (unless it's cloudy). I'm thinking about getting some additional light but I'm not sure if it's really needed.
Pictures are from different days. The first two are from today.
Srsly tho if you can do it you're probably in the top 1% of all people in terms of jewel identification -- it's pretty niche to love them this much, yanno? :)
I was gifted a Macodes Petola by my brother for my birthday a few months ago. Now I have a little collection in a display cabinet. Seen some good growth already. My discolour was huge until I took cuttings and they are all doing pretty well, will be gifting them to family soon enough.
My Variegated Anoectochilus Roxburghii hasn’t quite recovered from its journey in the mail, I hope the leaves uncurl soon.
I’m still new to jewel orchids, if anyone can spot any rookie errors I am making please let me know.
also, are ludisia the only common genus that have the thick stalks?
Does anyone has a discord server that has a lot of orchid lovers because im a newbie and i need some advice with them. So far ive joined https://discord.gg/QzTmr4fcd. Yall could also join the server and help me with taking care of orchids
Purchased as a two leaf rooting prop 4 years ago, and she’s been a slow but steady grower the whole time. Easy and Beautiful, what more could you want? 🎉
Nearing ten years old, got it as a little cutting. Could probably have done much more for it to be bigger and more bushy, but I love the creeping look.
Here is my orchid list, vendors I bought them from and care info, if you are looking for any of these, you will know where to get them from:

today i had some jewel tcs arrive today from the green escape, and the paper says to remove the tc from the bag ASAP and the sooner you remove them the higher chance of survival it has. but my tc supplies(fungixide, brownie plugs, the seedling tray) are not even shipped yet. some people said that brownie plugs are better for jewels because of their finer roots. i
should i unbag them asap(no fungicide to soak them in and improvised pots)? is sphagnum or fluval better? or should i wait until my supplies arrive?
i don’t remember how long ago i bought this plant, but i have repot it once and the sphagnum moss is only covering the top layer of soil. it used to not be so leggy, is there any advice that i could use to maybe prop or create a “bushier” less leggy plant over time? all advice welcome <3
What am I supposed to do with this? It looks like new leaves.
I just got my first jewel orchid (Macodes petola) the other day. For now, I've placed it in a shaded spot under the leaves of my aroids, in the back of the room where I keep them all together. The area has a fan/circulator running constantly, LED lights on a timer during the day, and thanks to the transpiration from all the aroids, humidity stays around 60–80% from spring through fall.
Would it still be more stable to keep it in a glass enclosure (like a terrarium), or could it do fine in that setup? I've been reading a bunch of care guides online, but I'd really love to hear from people with hands-on experience.
i had a pretty big dossinia marmorata and macodes petola in a terrarium, i put springtails in the mix too and ever since i moved back to my house i noticed that the leaves on my dossinia had been wilting, they were older ones so i assumed it was shock because my macodes was doing perfectly fine until i noticed a black spot in the medium, anyways it got stem rot and i cut off the rot (i swear the springtails ate the big ass rhizome that had rotted underneath the moss) and i dipped the cut ends into cinnamon powder.
my next move is undecided, i need to plant the macodes in something and im not sure how to move on with the dossinia. I have fine perlite, sphagnum moss, and a small portion of the leca that i salvaged from the terrarium soaking in hydrogen peroxide. Also when i rehydrate the moss, i was thinking about hydrating it with a dilute amount of liquid fertilizer. any tips?
i included pictures of possible homes for these jewel orchids, the stem with one leaf might just get put on top of the cut green pot with sphagnum underneath it. the macodes im thinking about putting into the painted pot i have
