This is my journal in 2019, a SHS student, just writing my thoughts and feelings sa buhay-buhay. This day while I was cleaning, I found my journal, I searched kung anong nangyari noon and natouch ako sa nangyari.

A guy filled over 100 notebooks since 1982. Reading one of his journals from age 21 changed how I think about journaling.

Jordan Mechner is a game designer (made the original Prince of Persia in 1989). He started keeping a journal at 17 and has filled over a hundred notebooks since 1982. He still does it daily, in his sixties, in a Hobonichi Techo -- one page per day, a decade fits in a shoebox.

Stripe Press republished his 1985–1993 journal in 2020. The format is the diary plus his own thirty-years-later notes in the margins. Two voices on every page.

The single most useful thing he writes about journaling:

"In the four years it took me to make the first Prince of Persia game on the Apple II, my journal did more than record my creative process: it was part of it. I used my notebook as a sounding board -- wrestling with design challenges, discarding ideas and sparking new ones in the act of writing. More than once, my journal brought me back from the brink."

I've been writing in Apple Notes for a couple of years and realized I've been doing the wrong half of journaling. I've been recording. He was thinking on the page. Those are different practices.

If your journal feels like a chore, try writing about the actual problem you're stuck on this week -- wrestle with it on the page instead of just describing it. Different muscle.

I wrote a longer piece on what reading the book did for me: link in comments. Maybe it gives someone else a kick of energy too. Would appreciate any feedback

Low-pressure journaling club for ladies in Makati!

Hi! My friends and I have been doing journaling dates for a while now and have been meeting new people so far! We decided to be more intentional about it, so we're starting a small journaling club.

We want to build a soft community for people who enjoy:

– Journaling
– Yapping about their ecosystem
– Analog hobbies
– Cafe hangouts
– Stationery hauls
– Stamp trails
– Fountain pens
– Sisterhood of the traveling journal

If you like any of those things, DM me! We look forward to having people over at our first journaling meet up!

We're in our late 20s/ early 30s. We're not the craftiest bunch you'll find but we definitely make time for journaling 😄

EDIT: Our first journal hangout is on May 21, Thursday at Makati! Definitely okay if you can't come – we have more in store!

I build a journaling app that creates ambient music based on your day

Decided to combine hobbies of me and my wife together in app form. (ambient music, and journaling) So Melo was born. The idea is pretty simple:

- You write a small journal entry a day, and a piece of ambient music is generated.

- You can play a weekly overview of all the entries, with images attached in a nice player.

- Analysis of your monthly mood

I'm genuinely curious what the actual journaling community thinks of this, so feel free to reach out if you have any feedback, i'm just a one man team so i can build and fix things pretty quick!

Feel free to check it out in the app store, or via the website

I just bought a Zebra Kokuyo Gel and a Washi Tape set I found on NBS. They're cute and of course Zebra is such a consistent brand for my writing preferences!
