Is it just me, or is Overheated Ryu an underrated moveset?
[lol i might be overglazing overheated ryu by calling him "underrated" but i think you get my point]
SIDE NOTE: Despite me studying this game a lot and knowing lots of kinds of stuff, you could consider me as a casual player since I barely play duels, my phone can't handle public servers, and I do more messing around in private servers with my friend than actual serious 1v1s. Therefore, i guess you shouldn't be taking this post a bit too seriously.
Anyways, now, to the actual point, Overheated Ryu, while I'm not gonna seriously call "underrated", it might still be a usable moveset, even if it means possibly being worse than Todo himself.
For some context, this night, I had a gaming session with my friend, where we were doing much more serious 1v1s and learning than usual. During one of our fights, I decided to troll my friend for a bit and use only Overheated Ryu. This was all shits and giggles until I remembered a hidden mechanic with Overheated Ryu, and immediately had a blast using him against my friend.
Basically, what makes me think this is the hidden mechanic of extending your front dash's range by using Granite Blast during the wind-up. While a front dash range increase is laughably underwhelming, and barely changes anything, what makes me immediately think high of Overheated Ryu other than bias is just how underused and unknown it is. I mean, it's the thing you SHOULD be avoiding in Ryu's playstyle in the first place.
So when the enemies expect you to play a bit more passive, they get shocked when you rush them down with your mind boggline front dash, two good melee moves, and a projectile that, while mediocre overall, can still easily stop stuff like parkouring or ult moves that put the opponent in the air.
So in short, what makes me think Overheated Ryu could possibly be usable is due to his niche front dash variant, two already great melee moves in the form of Unsatisfied and Second Helping, and a a situational projectile.
What are your thoughts?
