Hello fellow reddit users,
Brian Andrews here and I am running for Kamloops City Councillor in the municipal election.

Now that the first day of municipal voting as begun I want to do an Ask Me Anything.

By trade I am an electrician with twenty years in the industry. These days I work off the

tools as a Labour Organizer for IBEW Local 993. Every day I get to advocate for

workers, negotiate between different groups, and help strengthen unions across our

community. I also proudly serve as Second Vice President of the Kamloops and District

Labour Council.

The most important skill I have learned as a Labour Organizer, is how to sit at the table

with people who see things differently and still build relationships and find common

ground. Through this experience I have also trained and have experience in how to run

and participate in council meetings.

I am running for city councillor because the working people of Kamloops, whether

employees or small business owners, do not have a strong enough voice at the council

table. The people who build this city, care for it, and keep it moving deserve someone there who understands their lives.

That is why I am running under the title ‘A Working Voice, for a Working Kamloops’.

When the ballots are counted after this election, we’ll know who’s in and who’s out, but I think we are going to find out something else important as well.

Hey everyone! We recently moved to downtown Kamloops around Victoria Street after previously living in Aberdeen, so downtown is definitely a different vibe for us.

Our apartment is on the second floor facing the back alley. We’ve noticed quite a bit of activity back there, including people walking/running around, occasional fights or arguments, and people near the garbage areas. We may honestly just be a little paranoid because we’re new to the area, but since everything feels so close to our unit. I’d rather rule out any actual concerns and take reasonable precautions.
For those who live around Victoria Street/downtown — have you experienced or heard of break-ins or people trying to access apartment buildings through back alleys, windows, balconies, etc.? And are there any safety measures you’d recommend, like cameras or door/window sensors?

Not trying to judge anyone or create unnecessary fear — just looking for some advice from people familiar with the area. Thanks!

Hi everyone! My husband will be in Kamloops for 2 weeks in December for trade school, and I'm coming along with our dog. We're from Vancouver, where short-term rentals are pretty restricted, so I'm not sure what the options look like in Kamloops.

We're looking for:
A furnished place for about 2 weeks.
Dog-friendly (he's a 4kg toy poodle)
Ideally close to TRU or somewhere easy to get to

A few questions:
Are Airbnb/VRBO rentals common and reliable in Kamloops, or are there better ways to find short-term stays?
Do any extended-stay hotels or motels take dogs?
Any neighbourhoods you'd recommend (or avoid) for a short stay?
Any local Facebook groups, websites, or landlords who offer furnished short-term rentals?
