Adult coat changes
My 5yo Aspen appears to be doing more than a spring shed. His undercoat has been shedding for the last 4 months! He has plenty, so I'm not worried, but I was wondering if there is a point in adulthood that they go through a full coat change.
It's been in the upper 80's to upper 90's for over a month, dry and full of smoke in the air (Colorado is on fire). I brush him every morning and get way more than I used to. Plus he has that "pickers dream" of undercoat tufts.
If there's no history of these neutered males doing this I bet it's an anxiety response. He has been extra anxious and scared of noises lately. I've already taken him to the vet for this.
Meet Suki!
A year after the passing of our old keeshond, Sadie, my parents finally decided it was time for a new puppy! Meet Saint Suki Moondancer, or Suki for short!
When its time for brushing
When the summer shedding starts if you forget the daily brushing your kees will remind you
Tips on how to brush the inside of their legs?
We have difficulty brushing that area, especially closer to the groin. How do you brush it?
For us the most effective way has been for my wife to hold his front paws up while I get underneath and start brushing. But our guy hates it. Even when we bribe with his favorite treats.
How do we make it less stressful for everyone?
Tax.
We have been considering getting a second dog, but I just have a few questions.
Hi, everyone! I currently have a dog who is gentle and friendly and I have been considering getting a second dog, because I’d love to train another pup. The current dog is 2yo (we’ve had her since 5mo) and appears to be around the same size and energy level of a Keeshond though she is a mix from a rescue, which is ideal for me because then I can eventually walk them together, so we don’t have to walk one then then other.
Clarifications: While I believe my pup would love a friend, but I am not getting a second dog with the expectation that I’ll have to exercise them less or something. I know that with a second dog you can expect to close double the work.
Though there are a few things I worry about,
I live in TX and I hear they are heat prone, this worries me, what do y’all do when it is too hot? What’s the ideal temperatures for them?
I believe I can deal with some vocalizations as the current dog does talk a little bit (I have worked to bring it down) and she already barks at unfamiliar things in the yard, but I get her to stop by going out to check it out and then say “Okay” to get her to know it’s all good. How much vocalization can I expect, and how have y’all delt with it. (Extra question but do they vocalize at night alot or do they sleep good?)
On average (unless it’s too hot) I’ll take my dog out for 45-60 minute walks. I also do playtime throughout the day. From what I see online that be okay for this doggo, but I want to make sure so I am asking yall.
Sorry I know these are long questions and I will probably find the answers on my own as I do more research, but I just wished to ask here for people who have actually owned them for some specific tips. This is just the beginning phase so I might decide not to get one, but I just wish to check it out. :) thank you to anyone who takes the time to reply! ❤️
I am gonna miss you Quma

My keeshond Mio refuses to walk all of a sudden
TLDR; My 1,5 year old keeshond Mio has began to lay flat on the ground and refuse to walk, and I've tried anything. Only thing that works is releasing her from her harness and letting her walk freely.
--
My 1,5 year old keeshond Mio has always had a behavior where she will lay flat on the ground to protest if she doesn't want to walk.
Usually this was at start of the walk, and generally only places where she walks a lot (like right outside of our house) which I assume she perceives as boring. However, this would only last for a couple of hundred meters before she starts walking normally again. And it was far from every walk, usually it started because we walked the same place again and again and was fixed simply by taking her somewhere more exciting.
But a couple of weeks ago this behavior has gotten significantly worse. It all started on one of our regular walks, when she suddenly shrieked, like a loud and short yelp, and became clearly distressed and started pulling homeward. She shrieked again a few times during the walk, and would pull as hard as she could trying to get home.
I have no idea what caused these shrieks, but she is a bit of a drama queen and will shriek at anything. Especially if something is stuck in her fur. She's done it before when sticks or snails or anything else is stuck.
I believe it might have been her harness that somehow pulled her fur or something, but I really do not know.
But now she refuses to walk. It doesn't matter where we go, or if I try to trick her with candy. The only thing that does work is if we take a forest walk and I release her from her harness and walk away from her, at which point she'll wait a little bit before running to me (or go out on the sides of the trail to explore the forest). This is obviously not ideal, as there are many situations where I need to leash her.
On our way home she always pulls as hard as she can.
My theory is that she dislikes the leash, perhaps the shrieks could have been from the harness pulling her fur or something, and it traumatized her.
She doesn't seem to be in pain. As I said, she will run around freely without her leash, and she pulls on the way home. She'll also run around at home. She's never limping or showing any signs that she's hurt.
Would love to hear any advice or similar experiences.
My boy Kayde enjoying the ocean breeze :)
He's a very photogenic boy. Currently at the groomers to have some mats taken care of. After that, night time beach trip!
Thank you
Hello! I have posted here a few times about my challenging puppy/now teenager. And I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice and support you have given me.
My boy is still hard work but I have hope with time and training it’ll improve.
I think without this group I would feel like a complete failure as I have worked so hard with him and he is still so much barkier and wild than others dogs. And I just look like an incompetent owner and my mental health has been at a low for a while.
Slowly seeing some improvements and he is a lovely kind boy.
Thank you again for your help and advice.
Look what the groomer did
I told her to give my girl a shaved belly and wash her… I came home and now she’s got a husky cut? Who is this? Not a Keeshond anymore! She said she “didn’t cut her fur” but look at her face? 😣 I’d understand if she had matting but she didn’t and the groomer didn’t say she did 😭 at least my dog looks happy and comfy even if her face is unrecognizable
hugo would like to formally decline leaving the dog park
the staff at the dog park we go to posted this 😂 he’s just making sure we get our moneys worth out of the membership fee
Food recommendations?
Getting a puppy this week and I'm still struggling with the food! I'm trying to find a good fish-based kibble that won't break the bank! Would love to hear what everyone is currently feeding and how it's going as well as things to avoid!
