London to Lewes travel advice, in light of derailment

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can help and that this is acceptable to post.

I’m travelling to Lewes from London for a work thing next week. I’ve never taken this journey before.

Obviously, the awful train derailment means trains are not direct and the line is still affected for a few weeks. The train apps are showing rail replacement buses, but it’s not entirely clear how the journey works in practice.

Has anyone travelled to or from London since the derailment? I’d really appreciate hearing what the journey was like — where the train stopped, where the replacement bus took over, and how straightforward it all was.

I’m trying to decide whether it might be best to hire a car instead, so any first-hand experience would be really helpful. Thanks!

Where’s good to eat in Lewes now?

I really liked Dill, but it has — for whatever reason — disappeared off to Barnes now. Everywhere else I have been in the surrounding area has been mediocre at best: where are East Sussex’s cool restaurants?
