By that, I just mean they don't come choreographed with the dance. But they seem to be moves (mostly arm moves but sometimes others) where a sizeable chunk of people know them, and you just have to pick them up. Some examples:

American Kids: house shape with arms, cradling baby, leaning back in the driver's seat (shouting out certain lyrics, yes this isn't a "move")

Country Girl Shake: wave hands like a dandelion

Tequila Floor: squat drop/death drop

Shivers: shoulder shimmy

Rude Dude: shootout

Super sexy: worm

Others include sections where you clap continuously (cha cha caliente for one) or holding up a drink (going hamm, any song that mentions drinking/a cup)

Is this just a thing in my dance bubble, or is it common in other places? I see a lot of YouTube videos where people seem to be dancing very plainly. At my spot, it tends to be very over the top and people add lots of moves to the songs.

So for reasons too long to tell without a bonfire and a beer I have recently gotten into country music. It’s good shit. Not all of it hits the mark but I’m starting to get an ear for what I like.

But now I got reason to enjoy it and reason to go OUT to enjoy it but that’s where things get foggy. Anyone up for educating a new face cuz I got questions, but the biggest one is what do I need to know? What are you gonna tell your buddy to make sure he has a good time and makes a good impression when you take him to your favorite spot?

Went to my 1st country bar (according to google, yeah I know. Everybody’s gonna have a 1st day though)last night and was told “welcome and this isn’t a country bar” by the bartender. Yes there was a rodeo event going on where they were announcing the bull pairings. Yes every Friday they teach line dancing, but this bar was like hitting a foul ball. Good attempt but doesn’t count.

So what makes the difference?

Is line dancing and country swing dancing the only kind of dancing yall do? It was all they did for hours. Nobody just…danced. Does anyone just grab a partner and dance or do you need to learn the twirling to not get pushed off the floor?

Is it go big or go home from head to toe? Momma didn’t raise me to be sloppy, but I didn’t want to dress like a tourist so I just went as is. Boots, button down, and jeans. I was surrounded by actual rodeo contestants (nice guys hope they do well today) Is it all a must? I wouldn’t know the first thing about buying a hat. Tried one at a wilcos. I felt like I was wearing a plastic pretend hat.

Line dancing. Looks fun. Gonna be interesting doing it after leg day. That something you’re expected to know when you arrive or get off?

And finally, where? I live in Oregon’s PNW. Part of why I’m adapting to the culture opportunity. I gotta drive all the way to Portland? If so I’ll make a day of it but I’d like to know where’s the best destination for a fun evening.

Was out last night and learned this song from the DJ dancing with us. I remember the steps but not the song.

It's a basic song where it says some of the steps though.

It was : 2 steps right - 2 steps left - double kick forward - double kick backward - kick to right - kick to left - slide right - slide left - 90 degrees left.

That's it, the whole dance, some of the moves are lyrics to the song, more of a RnB too if that helps, pretty sure it was a guy singing as well. If anyone has any suggestions of songs that might be it please lmk. Thank you in advance.

Hi! I’m looking for a line dance community in Tokyo and was wondering if you might know of one.

I’m specifically looking for a more modern/social line dance community — pop, R&B, K-pop, etc. — rather than the traditional country/western style. Ideally, I’d love to find an international community with Japanese and non-Japanese dancers.

Do you happen to know of any groups, classes, or regular events in Tokyo?

I’ve been dancing for a little over a year now and I’m determined to pursue becoming a better overall dancer. I grew up taking dance classes but do not have an extensive dance background or anything. I am able to do advanced dances and flair, but sometimes when I see videos of myself dancing it just can look a little sloppy/not under control.
Are there any tips to improving in general? I’m not set on looking super polished and clean, I want to go with the flow of the music, I just also want to look confident in doing it. Thanks!

Will be visiting Austin soon and would like to learn a few dances that might actually stand a good chance of being played. Which dances would you suggest?
