Why the heck was Yuji so sad about Nobara "dying" when she wasn't even Top 20 in the verse? Is he stupid?

Seriously, Nobara was the victim of an annoying ass twink wearing a trash bag and a one month old, and Yuji's acting like he just lost some important Top 10 baddie like Maki or Yuki. Seriously bro, you ain't got no reason to be sad over a useless BUM like that, just suck it up and lock in already ✋😭

How Shoko’s armpits smell

To begin, I need to actually define what we’re looking for! Sweat itself is mostly odorless, what we typically associate with the smell of sweat is the bacteria on our skin breaking down the components of sweat!!

So what actually dictates how that smells? It’s a few things, actually!!

  1. What mixture of bacteria is on the skin
  2. Apocrine gland secretion
  3. Genetics
  4. Hormones and stress
  5. Diet

I’ll be ignoring hygiene products so we can find what her base smell is!! So now it’s simply a matter of defining these 5 attributes!! So let’s go one by one

First, the actual bacteria in question. Luckily, while this is near-impossible to quantify legitimately, I can make an assumption!! Mostly because Shoko is Japanese, and thus it’s typical to have less of a sweat odor when it’s present. This is specifically because of the ABCC11 gene, in which Japanese populations commonly have the A/A phenotype for this gene. In other words, two copies of the inactive variant. So the apocrine glands produce very low levels of odor precursors to break down. So it’s a reasonable assumption to say this aspect of the problem can be ignored for the most part!! So, in short, bacteria and apocrine gland secretion (and thus stress too) are negligible in terms of my research!

This means that a majority of what Shoko’s sweat would smell like comes down to diet, stress, and her lifestyle. So let’s break those down!!

As for her diet, I’ll treat her order in the light novels as indicative of her regular diet, since she is treated as a regular to that restaurant anyway. Specifically, she orders: whiskey, Hakkaisan Sake, mashed potato salad, edamame, tuna sashimi, assorted cheeses (to pair with the alcohol), and shutō.

The biggest contributor is the alcohol, doubly so for someone like Shoko who reliably is drinking very often. Alcohol is mostly processed by the liver, but a portion of it is also processed through the pores of your skin, breath, and your urine. In terms of contribution, your liver breaks down the alcohol and forms acetic acid, which is then excreted. This would apply to her pores, giving her sweat a vinegar-like smell. Additionally, the unmetabolized ethanol exits directly, and thus also adds a hint of whatever the smell of the alcohol was as well!! And since alcohol is a diuretic, it increases sweat volume and concentration of waste products!! This scent would be the overwhelmingly biggest contributor

As for the other foods, most of them have little to no contribution. Fish normally does, thanks to the TMA (trimethylamine) levels, but she specifically orders tuna, which has low TMA levels!!

Alcohol is the biggest (and almost only) contributor thanks to her genetics. It doesn’t prevent the issue with ethanol, acetic acid, or the vasodilation that comes with drinking!! In simple terms, it takes an ABBCC11 independent route!

Now, since I’m specifically looking at her sweat odor, I need to distinguish the impact her smoking has!! After all, she’d smell of smoke simply because of the smoke accumulating around her body. But it also impacts her sweat and isn’t impacted by her genetics, so it’s worth looking into! Although it would have a smaller impact than the alcohol

Namely, the nicotine secretion from her bloodstream would be the main contributor in this vein, though there isn’t a single universal outcome of this. For simplicity’s sake, it’s best to describe it as a faint scent of tobacco

Then there’s her RCT, which she’s undoubtedly running to keep herself healthy despite her lifestyle!! This would apply to her blood, and thus the ABBCC11 independent pathways that I’ve touched upon!!

Geto mentions curses, and this cursed energy, tastes horrible. It’s only natural that it smells just the same. That means positive energy smells the opposite!! And, notably, this doesn’t mean sorcerers all smell bad, Shoko is unique in that she’s actively healing her body with that positive energy and thus infusing her biology with it. She creates new blood cells using RCT, ones that are healthy and packed with positive energy!!

Now there’s no real quantifiable way to know what the opposite of a certain smell is. With that in mind, I’ll simply assume that the smell question is sweet, maybe candy-like!! After all candy would be the opposite taste of Geto’s “shit and vomit” description!!

This means I can finally describe Shoko’s armpit odor!! Being a mixture of what I went over above!! It’s a mixture of a sweet smell, a vinegar-like odor, whatever specific alcohol she has drank, and tobacco!! In order from most apparent to least!!

This is, of course, ignoring any beauty products she may be wearing, like perfume or things of that sort!! But even so it’s perfect!!

Nah what did I just watch 💀

Is this what Megumi and Yuji do in their free time?

Came across this weird-ass JJK short from Dokidan
