Do I have a problem?

My neighbour has let me know they are concerned about their home being broken into due to how much their keyholes are protruding and we have the same doors/ locks.
I think they have raised it with the housing developer, but are being met with resistance.

Could someone confirm I have a problem?
Below is my front and back door.

Scammed by locksmith

Still pretty livid. My garage side yard door had needed adjustment for a while so I figure I’d get it done finally. The person gives a modest service fee. They come in, tweak some screws, doesn’t fix the problem says it’s the way the door was installed, then charges me 600. The man spend maybe 11 minutes at my house and refuses to leave; says that’s the standard rate for door adjustment. Honestly shoulda called the cops but I have kids at home and just paid him to leave. I’ve never had to deal with a locksmith until now. Now I’m looking it up and it sounds like a legit scam ring. Anything being done to preserve integrity to this field. Crazy experience

Looking for a replacement key.

Looking for a replacement key for this gum-ball machine from the late 40s. It’s stamped with a 41. I’m thinking it a Chicago key. Saw a few on eBay, but they are all different. I’d rather be sure before I spend $10 on a key. Thanks in advance for any help.

Locksmith says he has the wrong key part for my 2020 Toyota GT86 (all keys lost) — ELI5 please, I know nothing about this

Locksmith says he has the wrong key part for my 2020 Toyota GT86 (all keys lost) — ELI5 please, I know nothing about this

Explain like I'm 10 — I don't know anything about car key programming, immobilizers, or any of the technical terms. Just trying to understand what's going on and what to do next.

Here's my situation:

- 2020 Toyota GT86, all keys lost (zero working keys)
- Called a mobile locksmith who came out with a "Smart Pro" tool
- He was able to pull codes and delete the old keys from the car
- But he said he needs "the right part" / has the wrong key, and can't finish programming a new one
- I've had someone successfully make me keys before in this exact all-keys-lost situation, so I know it's possible
- He mentioned needing to call Toyota / having a subscription with them, but then also said Toyota was "closed" — I think this was a separate issue from the part problem, but I'm honestly not 100% sure which thing is actually blocking him at this point

Questions:

  1. Is this really just a wrong-part issue (wrong key blank/FCC ID for my exact car), or could there be something else going on (subscription/access issue) that he's not explaining well?
  2. What's the exact part I should tell him to order, or where can I find the right part number for my VIN?
  3. Is this a "any locksmith" job or do I need someone with special registration/access for 2020+ Toyotas?

Any help figuring out what to ask him or order myself would be huge. Thanks!

Dead?

Anyone else slowed to a crawl this week? 2026 has been worse than 2025 in every way, but I've never seen a week this slow. There's just no calls, and when people do call, they have no money.

Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro is dangerous and a POS lock. The mechanical lock failed and trapped us in our home for four hours until a locksmith was able to saw through the deadbolt. Buyer beware!

I installed this POS in 2021, worked fine until recently. Myself, my wife and our one year old were about to exit our single entry sixth floor condo unit but when we tried to open the door from the inside, the deadbolt would not disengage despite turning the deadbolt lever from the inside and using the app to try and unlock the deadbolt. The deadbolt did not disengage from the outside with turning the manual key either. The locksmith had to remove part of our door to get at the deadbolt to saw it off. A completely dangerous situation as we were trapped in our home for four hours.

Question regarding Google and staying busy

Does anyone have any advice?
I’ve been doing everything I can to improve my Google ranking, but the majority of the public will continue to click the top two or three highest paying Google sponsored ads, which, unfortunately in my area Work in conjunction with one another.

They are not real Locksmith and I have had to go behind them and fix their work.

But for smaller issues, they continue to get review after review because of their position with the search results.

I rank fairly well organically as I have roughly 45 Five star reviews and a 5 Star average on Yelp, a website, and active on some social media to improve SEO.

Still, the phone is dead and it’s because these “companies” are experts with digital marketing and monopolizing search terms

For those who did not inherit a Shop/business or buy one that was already well established in the community, how do you compete with this?

Looking for a keyless (not smart, but will if it is the only option) deadbolt that fits a 1.5" bore

I need to replace a fairly cheap Amazon buy from two years ago. It was all I could find to fit my very old front door. Now, the pad is failing and I can't trust it to always read my presses.

I'd prefer something like this: https://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BE365CAMFFF.html (BE365 CAM 619), but it doesn't fit my situation.

I've found a few that will, but they are all "smart" with the same type of touchpad that is failing now.

Any suggestions for this? Will the above actually work?

Many thanks, and happy 4th to all

How to replace this key

Hello! This is the only key left for my jewelry stand and it broke when the stand fell over. I don't actually have anything valuable at all in the stand that I want to protect. For me, the lock just serves to keep it closed; otherwise I have to brace something on the door.

Is this some mass-produced key that can be bought, or does it need repair or copying? Hastily taken photos of the lock in the comments right here, I can take better ones if needed.

Thank you for any help or advice!

How do I find somebody who can copy this 19th-century key?

My house in Brooklyn, NY, was built in 1897. We got a couple housekeys when we bought it twenty years ago and were able to find somebody to make copies, but now I need to make new copies, I have no idea where I had them made before, and all the places I've been to this time (admittedly, some of them are general-type stores that do lock cutting, but some of them have been actual locksmiths) have said they can't do it.

Is there a special kind of locksmith I can go to? Or what?

How easy would it be to replace this lock?

How easy would it be to replace this lock? It got broken probably due to aging and one of my brother’s friend came and help us put a temporary fix, so we could use it, as the door was not closing anymore.

He said that we should change the whole door, but I was wondering if only the locks can be changed. As changing the whole door would be way too expensive.

To change it, what would we need and how difficult would it be? Is it something I can do by myself or should we call a professional?

Key Fob help

2018 Big Horn

So first My key fob lock button didn’t work, but the unlock button/proximity did. The truck keeps randomly unlocking itself when I get near it without me pressing anything(I’ll hear it rapidly unlocking itself 3 times in a row). I replaced the battery and it still does it. If I remove the fob battery completely, the issue stops. I have a spare that’s the manual key but rather use fob/auto start sometimes. Anyone had this happen before? Shit is weird

Kwikset locks?

I need to install new locks and add a lock for the basement. I want one key for everything. I know how to disassemble and re pin a lock but I am curious about the kwikset locks and there instant rekeying system.

So my question is how much of a security risk is it to install these locks. How easy would it be for someone to just buy the reset kit and then get through the door?

New Keys Cut - Toyota Camry - help

Just had a professional locksmith cut two additional keys because the car only came with one key & fob.

The fobs work great and the key turns the locks fine, but it is difficult to pull out of the lock. The mobil locksmith said it was fine and just needs use.

I am suspicious of this. Is this correct or should I get new keys? Will they damage my locks? I did put some graphite on the keys thinking it might help and it seems a little better, but still isn't smooth like the original key.

Let's hear what the pros have to say

I 3d printed my HON66 key. And you can too.

For some dumb reason, rather than spending $50 to have a locksmith cut a new key for me, I just measured my key bitting with some caliperas, designed a website to create a 3d model of the key, and printed it. And it worked first time out! I was kind of shocked.

Check out the web site. Of course, you might break crud off in your key cylinder and cause way more than $50 of damage. So, that's up to you.

The website is open source, you can do any changes you want. Everything is kept in-browser and nothing is stored.
