What do you believe firing Dan Wilson would actually do for the team?

Serious question, I would like to know what people think.

What do y'all think firing Dan Wilson would actually achieve in terms of on-field success? And who would replace him? (Yes, I'd like to know who your ideal candidates would be and why)

It is worth noting:

  • The manager submits the lineup card, but this org is obviously run very much by the FO and so whilst Mariners managers do have influence, it's limited
  • The manager does not control trading or roster decisions at all whatsoever (not just the Mariners, but everywhere)
  • The manager does not set the team's overall strategy ("we will platoon heavily" or "we will rely on specialists" etc.) (also not some Mariners-specific thing)
  • The manager can control who platoons for whom usually, but our platoon options are very limited at the moment, and they still don't set the overall strategy of the team
  • No manager for the Mariners would probably ever be allowed to "trust their gut" or "go by feel" because of how Dipoto runs the team, which is extremely analytics-heavy
  • Bullpen decisions such as when to swap are mostly within the manager's remit, to an extent
  • This team is very much run by the FO in a hands-on way, so any manager will have a very limited ability in general to just "do their thing" no matter who, and the ability to push back is constrained heavily

I am not in the "fire Dan Wilson" camp even though he does make some truly awful decisions at times (like, well, most managers), because I think the core issues with the team are partially injuries, partially some things not working out like Donovan (not because I think Donovan is bad but because of how much he's been on the IL) or Refsnyder, but mostly the FO just being the same old crummy FO we've had for like 10+ years and not understanding the sunk cost fallacy when they've overpaid on a guy or a guy is washed. Change my mind.

Authentic Jerseys at Team Store

I've been trying all season so far to get either a Naylor Navy or Steelheads authentic jersey with the 50th season and Nintendo patches. (Yes I'm one of the crazies willing to spend the money on one.) I've been in email contact with the team store frequently and to the point where I'm probably a thorn in their sides, but it seems that they've not yet been in stock. I find this rather unbelievable, especially for the more popular players. I'm in BC, so I can't just take a stroll to the store at T-Mobile or the one downtown. Do the stores really not have authentic jerseys in stock?

Pinch Hitting Reysnyder for Raley vs a lefty is analytically asinine...

Luke Raley is 1 for 6 vs Leftys, so it's a very small sample set... But he's batting .167 with that.

Rob Refsynder is 5 for 51 vs Leftys... Batting .098

For someone so obsessed with analytics, Dipoto seems unable to accept the simple fact that *pinch Hitting Reysnyder when a lefty is up IS NOT WORKING*.

Bases loaded, two outs... Yes, let's put the worse batter in the league in to save the day. Something needs to give here

Rob Refsnyder might be the worst player in MLB

There's a fair case for Ref to be called the worst hitter in MLB. Looking at [the list](https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2026-standard-batting.shtml) of all hitters in MLB we see that there's 42 players who have posted an OPS+ under 12 so for.

Many of these guys have only a handful of ABs but we see Refsnyder has been allowed to come to the plate 73 times, much more than nearly all others who have a similar OPS+. This adds up to a -0.6 WAR which is 10th worst in the AL despite most of nine players ahead of him having way more playing time.

Allowing someone with a 11 OPS+ hitting .109/.178/.203 to continue to recieve playing time and BAT LEADOFF last night is unacceptable. Shockingly he's been arguably worse against lefties where he's 5-51 on the season.

And he's not getting better; in May so far he has a pair of singles in a joke of line of .074/.129/.074. Oh and he's 35, so there's a fair case to be made that his already-limited skillset has completely evaporated.

This guy has no place on the roster and should never be beating leadoff.

Mariners Crafters

Okay, we’ve got embroidery win-loss hat guy. There’s my win-loss blanket and u/aloshka is doing one as well (both crocheted). There’s the embroidery Humpy & Moose from yesterday. With all due respect, I think we may be craftier than even Jamie Moyer.

So who else is doing Mariners arts ‘n crafts this season? If you’ve got a work in progress, we’d love to see it!

Dan Wilson

Dan Wilson made several key mistakes costing Seattle yet another game. Leading off a guy with a fucking .170 OBP is his first fuck up. Then he followed it up pulling Bryce, then using Ferrer for one out in the 6th inning when he knew that there wasn’t any mathematical way to avoid facing the top of their order with the lefties in the 8th or 9th inning. His refusal to pinch hit for Rob was his 4th error. Then he finishes it off by putting Luis out for the 9th and the cherry on top was the second mound visit. I was never on board with the Dan hire and still strongly believe that this team can never win anything with Dan at the helm. Close games are won on the margins and Dan fucks this team on the margins.
