REMEMBER: POP IT, DON'T DROP IT
Leave the enemy scared and confused as you walk out without a scratch instead of going back to the respawn queue
99% of medics quit before they hit the ubersaw
youtu.bePlayed with a very ugly person
So there was someone who was really into politics saying some very ugly things about trans people. Everyone was clowning on him and he then told me some nasty things about me being asexual. Before he told me aphobic things, he said I'm mentally ill and confused with my gender. He also said that I'm just mad that I can't get laid. Well he happened to be on my team the next round and I avoided healing him because how much of a dickhead he was being. Since the game disconnected me I'm not sure if he was reported or not.
The Ubersaw is not OP, it's just not actively bad
Medic has 5 options at melee.
The Bonesaw (Fine) / The Ubersaw (Good) / The Vita-Saw (Actively Detrimental) / The Amputator (Irrelevant/Useless/Weak) / The Solemn Vow (Powerful/Useful)
Think about it for a minute. What is a Scout's most powerful melee? The Atomizer. Triple Jump makes for huge mobility buffs, is always useful in and out of combat, and you generally want to utilize it as much as possible.
What about Solider, (You have some options here) but the Disciplinary Action helps speed you out of spawn, has a high range to catch enemies at distance, and if you're not actively reloading or shooting something you can buff your team to help their combat ability.
Heavy, Fists of Steel, if you're ever caught out of position, flanked, in danger. you just pull out the "please double my health" melee and leave
I could go on, but there's something funny about these melee weapons. if you had them on Medic, would you still use the Ubersaw? Really consider it, If you had an Atomizer that gave you a double jump and let you evade damage to escape, wouldn't that be better than having to risk your life trying to hit an enemy to gain Uber and likely dying?
What about the whip? Wouldn't it be absolutely disgusting to whip your heal target right before an uber or kritz and watch them go super speed into the enemy?
and the Fists of Steel, I need not even explain how a 300 health medic is basically impossible to kill as long as you're not trapped somewhere, and even if you are. That bolstered random crit rate from healing would serve you pretty well if you were basically invincible due to being at minimum 3 perfect shots to kill for most classes.
The Ubersaw isn't something you intentionally pull out to accomplish your goals. You pull out the Ubersaw because the alternative is that you die, just like any other Medic melee, and from a practical standpoint, the Solemn Vow is objectively better for the goals of Medic assuming you can communicate with your heal target (Or can aim the crossbow at wounded enemies). Hell, even if you can't communicate, a savvy heal target can see you shooting a crossbow at something and understand that you want him to go kill that because he's low health.
Fact is, the Ubersaw is fun on a visceral level, not a practical level. A joyless robot uses the Solemn Vow, F2P's use the Bonesaw, bad players use the Amputator, Bioshock fans use the Vita-Saw, but you use the Ubersaw if you're the kind of person that likes to inject dopamine directly into your veins, and you're allowed that luxury because there's nothing that's far and away better than stock in-slot that forces you to change, not because the Ubersaw is too strong, because everything else sucks or is boring.
Sometimes, that's a good thing for the fun of it all.
Suggestion to make a new flair "part-time medic" (or just allow custom flairs)
I know, it's a medic-MIAN sub, but let's be real, people come here for all type of content about medic. I suggest adding this flair because I'm sure I'm not the only one, who actually mains other class, but still likes to play med and this sub. Answering to question "who cares about a f*cking flair?", I think for most people (including me) "medic-main" is a holy title, and like... Eh.... Just add this flair pretty please. You got the point
Guten tag fellow Medic Mains, how do ve feel about zhese medic veapon changes?
except the ubersaw, I already know how y'all're gonna react to that...
The Vaccintor was either going to be 50 or 66 percent... I chose 50 cause 66 is the wrangler DR and heavy has more health than a max sentry.
Interaction between Medic and Demo is... Strange
This post is a 50/50 guide and thinking out loud for less experienced medics, but maybe even pros will find something new, since I will speak mostly from Demo's pov. Also, I need to mention that I'm talking only about a stock demo. I don't play other loadouts, and in general it's a completely different story. Also, all of these thoughts make sense only in casual. And I mean not real casual, but "theoretical casual", where everyone is competent and knows what to do.
You already know, how to play medic: heal good guys, so they can shoot bad guys, buff good guys, so they can play more aggressively, and use über to make them go nuts. In return you get protection, victory and respect (at least in theory). This formula works for everyone, even gun-spy and smg-sniper. However, demo is a different case.
Firstly, he is a bad bodyguard. A really bad bodyguard. If you and demo are alone, you should be worried. Demo is as bad in bodyguard's role as a pro sniper. Can save you a few times, but close range is still his weakness. A single competent scout destroys a demo with a med in 3 out of 5 cases.
Secondly, demo's efficiency hardly depends on his ammo. Unreloaded demo is worse, than an unreloaded soldier. In 90% of situations it's better for him to pull back a little to reload (which takes ages). I don't think I need to mention, how useless an unreloaded demo is during über.
Thirdly, über push with only demo is much more difficult. I know, that's a signal for demo to git gud, but there is a reason, why it is a problem for demomen. During normal gameplay people move very predictable, since they are also shooting and make decisions at the same time. They just can't concentrate on dodging. However, when a player sees an über push, he concentrates only on 1 aim - survive. When a competent player needs only to dodge a demo, it's actually really easy. Stickies can be outrun in close range, and pipes can be hit only by predicting. It means that moving randomly in close range (but not too close) in the rhythm of demo's shots can make you a really difficult target (That's why a rushing f2p pyro is demo's worst nightmare. They move unpredictable af. Even they don't know which will be their next move). That's why I always beg medics to share über. Even a f2p pyro can make über push much stronger. Stickies to zone enemies, so they can't pull back and a pyro that forces them to step on stickies or die by flamethrower. Best tactic ever. However, sometimes you don't have to share über, since you can just pray that other teammates will push with you (just don't forget that in casual it never happens). The only cases, when demo is ALWAYS effective during über push without any fire support is when enemies are in choke-point or his aim is to destroy engi-nests. Engi is a free strange farm, and pybros can be killed not that hard.
Fourthly, considering demo's crazy damage output, his need to make breaks for reloading and the fact that enemies move predictable, when they see no über, makes demo a great target for healing and buffing (I know, that sounds stupid, but I really can't explain, why my highest moments on demo were not during übers, but when I was just with a constant medi-gun in my ass. Even comp players that I asked, said that demo shines with constant healing). I would say demo relies on healing as much as heavy. The only difference is that demo is not that slow, so it means that he can play more aggressively, and he can dodge, so despite that arrowtanking him is harder, he doesn't need it because he avoids damage in the first place (but that also means, you can't hide behind him).
What did I try to say in this post? "Sorry for bad protection", "sorry for bad übers" and "please, buff". I just tried to use logic to say "However, that's 100% not my fault". And of course, danke, medics. You make games unforgettable. Just, don't rely on randoms in casual. Even top-scorers both in damage and kills fuck up übers very often. Also, a friendly reminder: sticky's explosion push you even, when you are übered, and it's incredibly funny to ruin enemy's über pushes by that
