Anyone else from down south want to show off their collection of WWII ammo?

Anyone else from down south want to show off their collection of WWII ammo?

I find an absolute ton of these things. Would be interested to see if any others have the same experience or not.

Any ideas on an ID for this

Came in supper eratic on my Nox, bounced between 6 and 9 constantly without moving, this bit is about 52mm long weighs 8.6 grams and is oval shaped. I don't think it's that old but a bit fancy for most of my finds.

Garden "Treasure"'

Few more hours on my small garden with the new Vanquish 460 today and finally pulled out my first ring-type find 😄

Turns out it’s almost certainly just an old silver-plated decorative/costume jewellery piece with the stone missing and the ring crushed, but still really cool to pull something personal out of the ground rather than another nail or milk bottle top.

Garden keeps giving up little bits of history:

* 1941 halfpenny

* clay pipe stem

* EPNS spoon

* old buttons/tools

* endless lead and iron 😂

Starting to understand why people get addicted to this hobby.

ID request

Hi all. Found this while digging another signal. Non metal. Is it a piece off a smoking pipe? Northeast England

I got tired of laggy maps with too many pins, so I built my own detecting app with marker clustering and UK LiDAR. Would love your feedback!

Hi everyone! I’m a solo developer and a fellow dirtfisher.

I wanted to share a quick video of an Android app I've been building called CoilTrail. I just updated it with a "marker clustering" feature. Basically, if you have hundreds of finds in one field, it groups them up so your map doesn't turn into a laggy mess, and splits them apart as you zoom in.

More importantly for this group, I managed to integrate high-res LiDAR/Hillshade specifically for England. You can use the slider to fade it in and spot old earthworks and pathways right under your pins. The whole thing works 100% offline so you don't need cell service in the field.

I’m still developing and improving it, so I would absolutely love to hear what the UK detecting community thinks!

You can find it on Google Play here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niittyproduction.coiltrail

Just to be fully transparent with the community: the app is free to download and play around with, but the heavy offline maps and UK LiDAR require a Pro subscription (there is a 7-day free trial). As a solo dev, offering high-res data offline means I will quickly hit paid API and server limits as more people use the app. To keep this project sustainable in the long run without stuffing it with annoying ads, I had to put the heavy mapping features behind a subscription. Hope you understand!

My son's first proper find.. could this be the tip of some type of weapon? Iron shaft with wood at one end, a riveted softer barbed, potentially copper coated tip..

New to detecting with a mission and needing some advice

My Mission: To find my Dads wedding ring.

Some background: About 15-20 years ago (maybe more), my Dad lost his wedding ring in their garden. He passed 11 years ago and it has been something that has come up in conversion with my mum a few times a year since.

I picked up a second hand Bounty Hunter Lone Star Pro and a pinpointer a few years ago and have sporadically attempted to detect around areas of the garden, unfortunately the garden is big so I've tried to do it a bit at a time to logically break it up. I have found a number of metal bits (nails, bike mud guard, off cuts of fence mesh... etc) but this is slowing things down massively as I have to check each beep. I've tried to change the settings on the detector but from what I've read about my detector is that gold can show across 4 sectors (foil, 5c, Alu & Zinc) all of which I can turn on and off, but due to inexperience I haven't done so as I don't want to miss anything.

Do you have any advice? Am I going about it correctly or anything I can change to help my search?

Any help much appreciated.

Council land permission

Hi I am looking to get into metal detecting I love local history but there is good land around me that is out the way of people (not farm land), would you still seek permission even tho you are not likely to be stopped while detecting because of how out the way it is?.

How likely are councils to give permissions?

I will be seeking permision on farm land, but I dont see the point in asking for permission on council land that is out the way.

Has anyone else done something like this?

Any advice is appreciated.

First hunt (again) - in the garden

Well I upgraded to a Nokta Legend. Found a pro brand new unused for a great price so what better than getting out in the garden with the new pinpointer and spade.

3mx4m garden and a quick going over found these below.

Away to chat to my local farmers where I had permissions before to ask if it’s still ok.

Happy hunting !
