Fire Temple Birdhouse
For my birthday two days ago, my friend surprised me with this birdhouse he built himself. He had never woodworked before so it means a lot. I love it so much.
Midsommar Ornament
I took a regular Christmas ornament and made it into the Midsommar Temple. Merry Creepmas in July
midsommar themed bachelorette part I
I had a midsommar themed bachelorette! beforehand I took some “promotional” photos that were used on the invitations and itineraries. I’ll make a separate post of the actual bach party content, but wanted to share these!
I made the flower crown and apron myself. the crown was made of floral wire, hot glue, and a ton of fake
flowers. apron was a standard white apron cut in half and drawn on with paint markers.
A mysterious rune in Midsommar's art
Hello, I was watching closely a few images from the movie and got curios about the runes depicted at the corners of this image. I can't seem to find any explanation about the rune in the lower right corner. Can anyone help me?
My thoughts after watching the film
So, I found the film special. Not because of the content or the absurdity, but it felt to me almost as if I were on drugs with them. And that's pretty amazing. I had this ambivalent pull, somewhere between fascinating and kind of strange, even to the point of wondering what was happening and whether I even wanted this. It felt extremely weird and surreal. And I have no idea if I imagined it or not. Somehow the film just passed me by, but at times I was completely immersed. With the sound effects, the rhythmic singing during s*x and crying, and visually, the pulsating flowers on the head and the slightly shimmering background. Somehow I feel like watching the film again, and somehow I don't... I was disappointed when it was over, I thought there was more to come.
I have no idea what's going on, it's kind of like being on drugs, or more precisely, a mild high like MDMA, THC, or something like that.
Pelle as a modern Viking
When everyone is heading to the Harga village from the airport, and the men are discussing why the women there are so attractive, they float the theory that it’s because the Vikings absconded with the hottest women from everywhere they raided.
That’s one of the many little details I love about this movie because Pelle clearly wanted Dani to come on the trip when everyone else was ambivalent about her joining (at best). I like to think it’s because he was executing the Viking theory with Dani, and while the men along for the ride understood his strategy in theory, they were oblivious to it in practice.
Who had the worst ending?
Who had the worst ending, Dani or Nikki?
The other movie is Obsession.
**SPOILER AHEAD**
Dani is trapped in an arbitrary, murderous cult that may keep her captive for the rest of her life, isolated from the outside world and pressured to adopt their beliefs, rituals, and violence while losing her autonomy. Meanwhile, Nikki, who regained her autonomy, may face prison for all the murders and deaths surrounding her because she cannot explain what happened to the authorities.
Which is worse?
My friend watched midsommar in 2019 and we disagreed abt what happened
i pretended to take credit for a joke theory he made and i said omg your like that guy from midsommar
he was confused and said there was no such subplot in the movie, this was a few weeks ago and today i checked and what happened was he saw the theatrical cut and i saw the directors lol
edit: if you dont know the directors cut has chris and josh get into some conflict where he wants to do a similar thesis to him and josh thinks its immoral if he trades notes with him
Who is worse?
For those who’ve watched Obsession, which boyfriend do you think was the worst? Highly recommended, by the way!
Great psychological thriller!
Does Dani just stay there forever
She obviously goes crazy, so I’m thinking she stays there forever, between nothing to go home to, and they prob won’t let her ever leave
Midsommar is the GOAT
I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this movie. I don’t know shit about cinematography but this movie is just so cinematic. From the music to the colorful atmosphere this movie is beautiful. I love physiological thrillers and horror movies so this movie was perfect for my taste. The subtle foreshadowing in the movie is unreal. The whole movie being displayed in the artwork is such an amazing tidbit. This is the best movie I have ever seen. 10/10. I’ve been recommending it to friends but none of them have taken the time to watch it because it’s not a big name like Shawshank Redemption or Interstellar per se. Am I overrating the movie or do other people love it just as much as me?
2 questions
Sorry if already addressed:
- the hosts in
the
- movie use a breathing technique. Sharp intake and expulsion. Dani is shown doing this independently of them
and even before she sees them doing it.
Does this seem to imply Dani was already exposed to it, or that maybe she was one of them?
when they make meat pies, the only meat shown was the elders dying. Did this show they were cannibals?
People's reaction to the ending is disturbing
So I just watched the movie and really liked it, it really reminded me of the very moody storytelling of Robert Eggers' movies. And I really love those.
But coming to this reddit felt a bit disturbing, I see many "supporting" Dani and making a villain out of Christian. But Dani is a murderer in the end, where she's deliberating choosing Christian to be sacrificed. And I don't agree Christian is toxic, the dude has clearly fallen out of love and feels like he's just there for emotional support having already checked out of the relationship. For outsiders his behavior is irritating but it's still understandable. And he doesn't deserve to die so "Dani can be free".
Did anyone else see The Mummy with Christian (Jack Reynor)
Honestly I really liked The Mummy, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece but it's definitely a favorite of mine for 2026 so far. However, I didn't even realize until I saw the cast that Christian was in this movie (he's the lead male), he gave an okay performance (no one really gave a good performance besides May Calamawy who plays a female detective), but I can see why he was perfect for Midsommar, he's just so generally unlikable... I think he should stick to some villain roles if he can.
Just speaking on May's character, she was great, I could see her easily playing Jake Gyllenhaal's detective role in Prisoners.
Midsommar Digital
Bought a second physical copy of Midsommar since I didn’t own the theatrical cut! Does anyone want the digital code for a digital copy? I will not use it :P sorry if this isn’t allowed! Just don’t want it to go to waste
Midsommar priestess
When my wife took me to see this painting, my first impression was this is Midsommar. The portrait of the Baltic Pagan Priestess dates back to 1872 by Wincenty Sleńdziński. In Lithuania we call it Joninės. These rituals are still alive and well but don't involve human sacrifices as far as I know. Anyway, couldn't resist watching Midsommar again on Midsummer night. The level of detail in the settings is incredible. Ari Aster really dug deep to make a truly haunting Midsummer Night's Tale.
