Erst Deck oder erst Planken

Hi!

Fujimi 1/700 IJN Ise

The IJN KongĹŤ 1/700 project will have to be put on hold due to my participation in the gaahleri world creator cup (GWCC), which required me to start a completely new build, so here we are with this beautiful kit

Finished: 1:700 scale PLA NAVY Type 039A, Hobby Boss

Its little, but nice detail for the scale.

The boat that fed China for 1,000 years.

This is one of those models — a Chinese river boat, the kind that moved grain, silk, and people through the inland waterways of the Yangtze Delta for over a thousand years.

A few details worth looking at closely:

The lattice railings along the sides are not printed or cast. Each section is assembled from individual pieces of timber, fitted joint by joint. At this scale, each joint is about 2–3mm.

The canopy roof is woven — real fiber, not painted wood. The texture you can see in the photo is the actual weave pattern.

The oars extending from the bow and stern are functional in proportion — the correct length relative to the hull for a boat of this beam. They're not decorative approximations.

The hull planks are individual. Each one is shaped to its position — wider amidships, narrower toward the bow and stern where the hull curves. The variation in grain between planks is not inconsistency. It's evidence of the process.

The craft of wooden ship model-making in Zhoushan is officially recognized as intangible cultural heritage — a designation that acknowledges it's a living tradition worth preserving before the last people who know it are gone.

Building a typical dutch okd freighter.

I am building a ship that my great grandfather sailed on the Southern see in Holland. It was a iron build sailing ship and is from 1913. It has 2 masts and one mainsail. Its called a Zeeuwse klipper. Im building it from wood.

HMS Victory (part 11): Rigged the Guns and Carronades on the Q-deck, decorated the Gangway/Entrance, added rain-guards(?) above gun-ports, deadeye channels, stairs and firebuckets on the poop deck

New display stand for the Titanic

Progress has been good. All lifeboats with the exception of a few up front are installed.

It does slightly piss me off that the superstructure did not come together correctly, and if you look carefully there are massive gaps. I'm not that bothered really, but still.

The new display stand I purchased actually works better to hold Titanic than the included one in the kit. It's a cradle, rather than two pathetic stands.

The finishing touches are all that's left. The hardest parts in my opinion. Rigging, attaching the aft mast, and then all the railings and finishing details for the stern.

Hms Endeavor - Spanker Installed

This was the most complex bit of rigging. Took a while but it turned out well. Any suggestions from more experiences modelers? It was tricky to keep all the lines taut

How can I get good at modeling?

I'll take part to a competition and I would like to know where I can take inspiration for the poses or even how can I practice my walk? I'm literally a rookie đź«

Handcrafted Chinese Wooden Fishing Boat Model

A handcrafted wooden fishing boat inspired by traditional Chinese river boats.

Built with dark walnut tones, detailed cabin structure, hand-tied fishing nets, and layered wooden decking. I wanted it to feel quiet and lived-in rather than overly polished — more like something resting along an old Jiangnan water town.

The small details are probably my favorite part:
hand-wrapped rope bindings
miniature fishing net setup
curved wooden hull lines
open cabin and layered roof design

Works nicely as desk decor, bookshelf display, or for anyone into maritime history, Asian aesthetics, or miniature craftsmanship.

Recommendations for offshore/research ship kits?

I know there kits of certain famous research ships like the Calypso or the Meteor by Revell, but Im looking more towards the offshore work ships. Last picture is a custom 3d printed one from someone else on Reddit.

Augusta model ship

Hello everyone! I have this wooden antique (possible from the 1800s or early 1900s) that a great aunt brought over from Sweden. I've had no luck tracking down its origins beyond that. I can't even figure out if it's based on a real ship. Does anyone recognize it? Thanks!

My first inspirational container ship

Hey guys,

I’m 11 and I’m a "broke hobbyist," so instead of building big models right now, I spend my time designing them in my sketchbook. This is my latest ship, the Global Bengal (GB007).It’s a Micro-Feeder designed to carry 40 containers. I tried to get all the colors and logos right—I've got ONE, Evergreen, MSC, Hapag-Lloyd, COSCO, OOCL, and PIL. I also included HR Lines because that's a big one here in my country, Bangladesh.I even added the red anti-fouling paint on the bottom and the registration code GB007 on the back. It took a lot of work to get the stacks looking straight!I'm posting this here to hopefully inspire someone else who likes ships. If you’re a builder and want to try making a 3D version of this out of cardboard or whatever you have, go for it! I’d love to see it.

Let me know what you think of the design!
