What are some missed opportunities you see?

For me it has to be the promposal episode where Mitch and Cam help Manny and Luke with asking girls to prom. Luke was doing a scavenger hunt thing and so he put a note in the girls locker that said “Go to the gym”. EXCUSE ME. Imagine you are in high school, and oh look, theres a note in your locker to go to the gym. I would not assume to go to the gymnasium. I would just think someone was calling me fat and I WISH they wrote that into the show.

Manny’s love life

New-ish to the group and my first post so I’m not sure if this has been discussed before or not, but does anyone else get kinda tired of the whole “manny falls for every female he comes in contact” bit or is it just me? After a rewatch or two or even when I was watching for the first time, I got myself rolling my eyes or just getting annoyed anytime manny had the plot line of falling for a girl he JUST met. And the whole falling for his aunt briefly I didn’t like I get the comedic attempt but I didn’t like that at all haha

Who writes these? Disney+

"Because he stuck"...."is stuck and try to"...."efforts at cleaning house"....

Almost as bad as American Housewife - names the actor instead of the character on a few occasions (but only with Oliver)

I swear Jay’s got some of the best lines. Bless him though, he may not have liked Javier but he never made a thing about it in front of Manny

Leslie Collins and Principal Brown are the two best guest characters

There’s an argument for Pepper over Leslie but she has far less screen time and it’s so good 😭

Cam and Mitch didn’t really need a new baby

I’m just finishing the series again and I’m on the last season where they got a call from adoption agency.
I think I didn’t like their storyline on the last season. They’re too old to adopt a newborn baby, they’re going through too much change at the same time. Moving, new jobs, new home, everything is changing and adopting a baby makes everything harder and they’re so uptight lol

I agree all the points Lily makes about adopting on the next episode.
They tried in the past and decided it was the best for them.

What do you think about that?

this series feels like home to me

i know this might be a super overused and 'dull' statement to say but I'm on my second rewatch and damn this really feels like home to me, i don't have my whole family with me because most of them are busy so we don't really spend a lot of quality time but watching modern family makes me remind a little bit of home. anyone else who feels like this? also suggest any other series that might replicate the same feelings, as a person who mainly enjoys watching sitcoms, i think b99 and malcolm in the middle also make me feel similar to this!
that will be all thanks
ps: i really like phil lol he and lily are my fav characters

Favorite character?

I’ve seen one or two of these but I’ve never seen anyone have my answer. Andy is hands down, without a doubt the best character in the entirety of modern family. It broke my heart when he left and further shattered it when he made his appearance in the hospital. I’d like to hear y’all’s thoughts and see if anyone has any hot takes. I don’t personally feel like this is a hot takes but again I have yet to see him mentioned.

the replies & quotes on this are (for the most part) so satisfying to read. love when something instantly ages poorly lol

either this is revisionism ragebait or OP is just younger gen z who didn’t live thru the show as it aired. if there’s any critique to be had about the show, ‘cultural impact’ would be such a poor place to start. i also think people want ‘impact’ to mean THEY PERSONALLY still see things about the media in their bubble when that’s not all it boils down to. they brush off anything outside their orbit and fail to consider there’s a world out there engaging with, loving and revisiting it. either way it’s just willful ignorance at this point 💀
