Escape-proof?
My girls are allowed to move into their new, bigger home and I've seen them carry eggs. This is an Exo Terra 45x45x60 cm and I closed the holes in the lid with the latch. Is it enough that babies can't break out? Should I make sure I have something else that I might overlook? Thanks for every tip.
Please help and advice! We need your help - it’s our first time.
Hi! My best friend and I have built three bioactive terrariums. We used a drainage layer of gravel, a mesh separator, a substrate made from compost and coco fiber, and lots of natural elements to support springtails and isopods. The setups are now almost fully established, so we thought it was finally time to get our geckos.
The problem is that every time we try to order them, they never arrive at the shop. There is another place about two hours away that has them, but we’re worried about transporting such small geckos. How resilient are they during a two-hour journey? We’re afraid they might become too stressed or that we could accidentally harm them.
We’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or things we should be aware of before bringing them home. We care a lot about doing everything properly, and I can’t imagine making a mistake that could hurt them.
If you have a moment, could you also take a look at our terrarium setups and let us know if you notice anything that could become a problem? We’d love to hear any suggestions or improvements.

Thank you so much! We really appreciate any help or advice you can give us.
gecko diet
I've read a lot of discussions about mourning gecko diets, but I'd like to hear the opinions of people here who actually have experience keeping them.
Will mourning geckos stay healthy and thrive on a diet consisting mainly of CGD and fruit flies.
Without crickets or other feeder insects? I have a pretty severe phobia of crickets and larger insects, so I'd really prefer to avoid them if possible.
I'd appreciate hearing about your personal experiences. Thsnks!
Girls having some breakfast
They were very excited for their fruity Pangea. Hopefully the little ones got to get a lick in 💕
Isopods disappearing
This is my bioactive mourning gecko tank. There are two adult geckos, a fern, and some golden pothos cuttings. I added 10 powder oranges isopods about a week ago, and within the next day I found three dead. Since then I haven’t seen a single one. Yesterday I added ten more powder isopods from my colony, this time with more cork bark and leaf litter to hide under. Still, this morning I only found one, the rest were nowhere to be found. Do you think that my geckos are eating all of them? I saw one try to hunt an isopod once, but I stopped her. I also had a theory that maybe my leaf litter is contaminated, but I’m not sure. Advice would be appreciated!

Are there any isopods that can be settled continuously in mourning gecko terrarium?
Currently, the terrarium environment uses a 30*30*45 glass terrarium and bedding mixed with cocopeat and coco husk. I'm using corkboards as a structure, and there are things that are laid down in addition to those that are erected in preparation for the input of isopods. There are no structures such as drainage layers. The current population is about 10 and there are a mix of sizes ranging from young to adult.
Others are using Porcellionides pruinosus (powder orange), but I heard that the mourning geckos are so predatory that they eat all kinds of isopods. Dwarf white seems like a good choice, but I'm afraid if I put in too little, they'll all be eaten before they can settle down properly. Is there a highly reproductive and sustainable isopods? And if I use dwarf white, how many hundreds do I have to put in at a time?
This is taking way longer than I predicted but I’ve finally got moss in my first tank ever! Next up is plants
So far I have to say that using flex seal was not worth it, I still had to silicone everything and the flex seal took 2 weeks to off gas.
Spray foam SUUUUCKS to apply when the unit is vertical (the grouted foam board took a lot of time but at least it kept its shape and silicone was enough to hold it up while drying)
I used WAAAAAY MORE silicone than I thought I would, one bottle by itself went straight to making a seal for the door
I set up 3 places for plastic bottle cap spots for feeding dishes
I have 4 hydro/thermometers
I also have a 50W halogen UV bulb for the basking spot up top. The unit came with a 75W and it has a dimmer, but I’m just going to test the 50W to see how it goes.
I’m planning on wandering Jew for the canopy, 1 begonia (planning on gathering some more) for the mid level. But I’m not sure what to put for the floor cover because it’s kinda dark down there even with 4 grow lights. My original plan was nerve plant, but I’m not sure.
If you have any plant recommendations please let me know!
The enclosure is put together and planted! Soon the main attraction will be ready to play
From a $100 ikea cabinet to a planted and ready to grow terrarium for a bunch of tiny lesbian lizards!
The bottom layer I have 2 Begonia Rex varieties (lower one is Huge McLauchin the other one is Silver star)
Transendecia (Wandering Jew) for the middle layers I just spread those around in piles of dirt and moss. It was $5 for the 3 so I was willing to put them in less than ideal locations that I thought would look good dropping from.
Dendrobium Nora Takunaga is the big green one right under the top cork bridge. Apparently the flower lasts a long time and I like the shape of it without the flower anyway
Dendrobium Lodigessi are a bunch of trimming scattered around the top to form a canopy of Lush green vines. This one will never flower because I can’t give it a winter chill and not kill everything else
I’m thinking of getting a PC fan or try to adjust my misting so I can get the lower levels to 70% and the upper levels to 50% humidity. I’ll try doing once a day misting for a bit and see how that goes while keeping the basking spot at 29C.
Another thing I was thinking was instead of having the extremes at the top and bottom (29-21C/85-70F), put a heat pad at the bottom and lower the basking spot to 26/80 degrees. I know everyone says to have a temperature gradient, but I don’t know if it’s better to not have the extreme ends of their temperature tolerance in the thank
I think I’ll let this chill for a month and establish itself before adding in any geckos. Well……. At least that’s the plan 😅
I’m unsure if I should add the leaf litter and my clean up crew now or do it at the same time as the geckos
