probably the coolest thing I saw in Munich

I knew about the Eisbach surfers before visiting, but seeing it in person was something else.
The idea that you can surf right in the middle of the city is just crazy to me.
I kept thinking… imagine finishing work (or even going out during your lunch break), catching a few waves, and then going back to the office.
That has to be one of the coolest city lifestyles I’ve ever seen.
Honestly, I spent way longer watching than I expected.

public transport vs taxi

Hi Guys, I’ll be visiting Munich for the BTS concert and I have 1 question.

From our hotel, it’s around 15 mins drive but 1hr 20mins via public transport.

What is the easiest/best choice, and how easy is it to get a taxi in Munich? Any specific apps?

I’m not too worried about the journey back after the concert but moreso getting there as we want to arrive at a decent enough time, while also having enough time to get ready etc.

Also open to ideas on what to do and where to eat the next day, as our flight isn’t until night time so we have the whole day to explore!

TIA

Vielen Dank schon mal!

Hi!
Moving to Munich Isarvorstadt (on a budget) soon and wondering if the cheap internet providers like pyur are worth it / good enough for a one person household?
Or is Telekom worth their premium price?

Vielen Dank!

Slapped and spat on during Pride Parade CSD 2026 in U-Bahn Station Frauenhoferstraße

Hey, I wanted to share this unfortunate experience I had on CSD to share what I learned and wish I’d known before.

After the parade was over, I left with my partner and a friend. I was wearing a rainbow flag around my neck. We had some drinks left over that I was carrying in a bag, and for some drunk reason I thought it was a good idea to give out the bottles to strangers as we were walking back from the parade. Some people were happy to take one, some politely refused. Unfortunately, one person in particular as soon I approached him and asked “Would you like a drink”, he immediately stood up, slapped me and spit on me.

The details are a bit hazy from the shock but I know that the glass bottle shattered, and the rainbow flag also wasn’t on my neck anymore - I guess he also yanked it. I got scared so I left the scene with my friends despite my German friend telling me to call the police to press charges.

Later that day I went to the police and made an Anzeige. This happened in the U Bahn station fraunhoferstraße, so it most likely got captured by CCTV, but I don’t know if it’s possible to identify the guy through video alone.

Anyway so.. Lesson learned: if you get attacked, call the police to the scene not afterwards so they can identify the attacker. You’re also allowed to take a photo of them or follow them until the police arrives according to the police I asked.

Inline routes in and around Munich

I recently got into inline skating again but since I did not grow up here and it is more or less the first time inline skating in Munich I wanted to know if some locals can recommend routes/tracks to do some skating.

I heard about Ruderregatta but being there once by bike I found the surface to be quite rough on parts of the track. Then there is the old flight field in the east (is it Perlach or Ottobrunn?) which looks great but also is just one strait you can go up and down.

So I would be happy to hear you recommendations for nice routes.

Dive buddy in or around Munich

Hi
I just moved here from another part of Germany and am looking for a dive buddy for occasional diving.

I'm at a beginner level (IAC OWD - 9 dives), but feel very comfortable underwater. I am 29 and speak German/English, and both would be fine for me.

Would be open for Indoor and Outdoor diving, but have no experience or cert in Drysuite, so this would need to come at a later stage.

MINT Gymnasium and neighbourhood

Hello,

We will be moving to Munich area in a very short notice. Our 10 y/o daughter will start Gymnasium this september, 45 days later, and we have to find a house and then a suitable school for her, and move there by this time.

Which gymnasium and neighbourhood would you recommend to us?

For context:

We are looking for a Gymnasium good with MINT, and a neighborhood without much hustle. We prefer living in a house with a small garden.

Budget for the house is ~3000-3500 Kaltmiete.

Even though our German is rather limitted, our daughter has no problem with that. Her Grundschule grades are mostly in the 1-2 range...

Umweltplakette trotz österreichischem E-Auto?

Guten Morgen,

Finding a gym near Ostbahnhof that isn’t a packed zoo

Hey everyone,

I’m currently living near Ostbahnhof and I am looking for a gym that is not overcrowded.

My absolute priority: I want to train hard with heavy free weights and good machines without constantly waiting in line or fighting through massive crowds. I do not care about saunas, swimming pools, lifestyle lounges, or any of that. I just want a high-quality machines/weight room where I can actually get my workout done efficiently.

Given the current explosion of Wellpass and Urban Sports Club (USC) users in Munich, almost every premium gym floor seems completely flooded.

Based on my location, I’ve narrowed it down to 3 options, but I need honest, unfiltered feedback on the crowd situation from people who actually train there:

  1. body + soul WERK12 (3-minute walk from me)
    • Pros: Literally next door.
    • Cons: Pricey (€84–€104/mo). I hear the USC/Wellpass check-in queues and peak-hour crowds are brutal. Is the weight room usable, or is it mostly a cardio/wellness crowd?
  2. ELEMENTS Balanstraße (20-minute walk from me)
    • Pros: ?
    • Cons: No idea about the cost. I’ve also read warnings that the actual free-weight/lifting section is structurally too small and completely overrun by corporate Wellpass users. Can anyone confirm?
  3. Gold's Gym Berg am Laim (27-minute walk from me)
    • Pros: I have been told best bodybuilding equipment and heavy dumbbells in the city. Cheaper than the other two.
    • Cons: Further away. I heard is overcrowded at almost all times. Is it really that bad during the day/evenings?

Out of these three, which one has the least overcrowded weight room (especially during peak hours)?

Appreciate any insights, especially from anyone who currently lifts at these specific locations! Thanks.

Bar for date night

Hey experts,
I’m new to Munich.

I want to have a good date night with my girlfriend.

Problem is, we are searching for something cozy where you can talk. 2nd problem: It needs to be opened a bit longer, cause we will start at 10pm.

Locationwise something central would be good.

Any recommendations?

Thx!
