Y'all mind if I complain about the viola MuseSound real quick?

Okay, so I love the MuseSounds, alright? For somebody who writes for competitions and seldom has access to live instruments, its amazing. HOWEVER, the viola (solo) soundfont in particular annoys me to no end. It's INSANELY slidey, which I'd get if it had, maybe, a tenuto or something, but these are plain old normal notes here. Cute for lyrical works, hell on earth for anything else. The only workaround I've found is slapping accents on the slidey notes and hiding them.

viola (solo) being stupid

Another problem with articulations, staccatos are consistently about a whole dynamic louder than written, especially on high notes. No big deal, I can just manually lower the dynamic, but I feel like an instrument that's usually TOO quiet should have a little more consistency.

Anyways, I just wanted to vent my frustrations a little bit. I'm not too mad at Muse, because at the end of the day, they're free and AMAZING most of the time (I'm using Muse Music Box as the Celesta's soundfont and it's amazing). Just every now and then. It's also not just a viola problem; all Muse Strings are a bit slidey, but it's worst (and most unexpected) on viola.

Will Spitfire Symphony Orchestra work in Musescore?

Question in title, I am thinking of buying SSO next time it goes on sale. Will all the articulations and stuff work?

Why is this note assigned to the upper staff?

when I select the bar it select the note too. It even plays an octave higher, following the ottava

Any way to change resolution/scaling of the window on a small screen

I usually compose on my PC, but since it's not working, I've been using my laptop instead (maybe a little over 1/2 the size). Is there any option to scale down the UI so it doesn't consume the entire space? It's okay if it's tiny

There's no way to push back the palettes besides closing them entirely; and percussion also always jumps straight to the top even after resizing, which also resets the size of the mixer. Suffering

[Edit] Currently dealing with it by swapping between workspaces, it is A solution I guess

I scored a film cue using Musescore

https://reddit.com/link/1unbrrg/video/ecx0krf0d8bh1/player

Please do not judge my composition, I am not looking for composition feedback. Only showing that Musescore can be used for scoring. I scored a short 1 minute film clip (a supernatural horror scene from the movie Rings) only to show to myself how Musescore can be used for scoring film. Not at the level of a DAW, but I feel film scoring on Musescore (4.7.3 in this example) can be great for a first pass before exporting to xml and importing into a DAW for advanced mixing and mastering if needed. This is a lot cheaper than using Dorico, in fact Musescore + VLC + VLCsync plugin is free! I did use a couple of VST3 instruments (e.g. Kontakt::FORZO by Heavyocity for Horns as I wanted some special brass effects) as Musescore allows using VST3 instruments (BBCSO, Hans Zimmer Strings, Kontakt and its instruments, etc).

This is a quick example, not what I would do for an actual gig. I am in no way associated with this film, my composition is purely for educational purposes (fair use act) and to show how using the free open source video player VLC, in combination with the free VLCsync plugin for Musescore, allows scoring somewhat like a DAW. (I tried the paid MuseHub app Vienna Video Pro but I did not find it useful, your mileage may vary, and after trying VLC I much prefer VLC; markers and hit points can be added to a score using staff text if needed)

I really like composing in a notation editor like Musescore, to see the structure and clarity of chords, intervals, and more. Note: I intentionally composed more music using more tropes for horror than I normally would, as my goal was to see if I could score a cue using typical supernatural horror music tropes in Musescore. Please do not judge my composition,

The new update is TERRIBLE.

I just updated musescore to 4.7.3, and it is noticeably much worse than before. It crashes all the time randomly, for some reason system text shows up on two instruments now instead of above the staff like normal, and the soundfonts sound worse. Is there a way to revert my musescore to the previous update because I can't stand this anymore.

Errors in musescore

Today when I opened musescore it buged really bad. It took much time to open, and it automatically closes itself all the time.Plus it's very very slow Does anyone have the same issue? I don't know if the reason is musescore errors or my terrible PC.

Musescore tried to double charge me AND steal my money

I woke up this morning to 2 paypal emails (50 minutes apart from one another) saying that 44.99 usd was charged by musescore. I never knowingly signed up to their subscription and the last time I bought sheet music on that site was last month for one individual score. I filed a refund through musescore email support stating that I wanted the original AND duplicate charge refunded as I was unaware of me signing up for the service. They responded very slowly and gave me a refund for the DUPLICATE charge after 2 hours of trying. They ignored my further emails and request to get the original charge refunded so I had to go through paypal AND my bank. Don't give this company your money, they are actively trying to scam people. I remember when this website used to be good 5-10 years ago, what happened to it?

MuseScore is greedy and deceptive. Do not trust with your card.

It’s very unfortunate when you have this potential, you know, and you decide to go the other path and cheat your customers.

I could’ve sworn I have the subscription canceled but they still charged me. Despite their 14-day refund policy, which they made, they still refused me to get my refund and only offered me 25%. And when did annual even became 3 months. I wasn’t informed 3 months is the new annual. They tried to flip it on me by saying I subscribed to an “instant” annual subscription. And the fact the I had a different amount offered than what I was charged with was crazy. It was 74.6% more.

I hope the everyone will know about this, including potential customers (and victims).

How do I have a separate part score with 4 different instruments on the same staff?

I want to have a part score that has 4 different instrument parts on the same staff, while also having them separate in the main score. I tried using the implode tool, but that puts all the parts on the same staff in main score as well.

Whimsical waltz! I’ve been debating if I should delete measures 9-16 or leave them in. My favorite part is the contrast in measures 17-23! Hope you like it! I know it’s kinda simple

Is there a way to transform bar 1 into bar 2 automatically ?

EDIT : 'regroup ryhtms' doesn't work for this specific case, a MS dev even opened an issue about it in 2023 (that is still open) : https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/issues/17322

On other score apps there's 'note grouping rules' (see below) that you can apply to the score. Isn't there a similar feature on MS ? I'm tired of having to tie all those notes 😭

Example of the feature i'm talking about from another app :

Is there a possibility in Musescore create scores with different time signatures?

When I make instruments with different musical time signatures in a score, 3/4 relates to 2/4 like a triplet, but I need to make a multi-meter score like, for example, Ives' 4th symphony.

Aria update (iOS editor for MuseScore files) - one week in, here's what's changed

App Link:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aria-music-notation-editor/id6779437781

Hey everyone, first off thank you so much for the response to the launch post. The feedback, bug reports, and kind words genuinely meant a lot and went straight into these updates.

I included a general walkthrough video of the app so you can see it in action

I've been heads down this past week and a half addressing the most common issues people ran into.

Here's what's new:

New

Scores now use vector-backed pages and look significantly sharper on all displays, PDF export is sharper tooAria now has keyboard support, including shortcuts for copy/paste, navigation, note entry, transposition, duration, rests, dots, ties, slurs, and pitch movement
Added an Instrument Layout menu for showing, hiding, and reordering instruments
System breaks can now be manually removed
Overhauled playback system, now works better across different score types

Improved

Individual parts handling, including preserved formatting after iPad round-trips and safer part saving so parts don't get rebuilt or mismatched
System break and "keep bars together" behavior
Time signature, key signature, and pickup measure editing
Add Measures now uses a simpler +/− dialog
Tempo editing, chord entry, and note adjustment controls
Playback quality, loading, and audio/visual sync
Audio export performance
Header/footer page count rendering

Fixed

iOS 16 launch issue
Time signature and key signature detection
Coda/Segno symbols no longer open as editable text (but can still be deleted)
Hidden instruments no longer play back
Playback cursor sync and audio artifacts
More accurate notation rendering in various edge cases
Various other bug fixes and improvements
Still a lot more to do but this felt like a meaningful step forward. Keep the feedback coming! It’s directly shaping what I work on next.

Trying to get into creating music for game development

Amateur jazz musician here, In the last few years I've built up a catalogue of original music I've composed and arranged. for a while I've wanted some way to share it with more people, and many people have suggested looking for indie game devs who might be interested.

A lot of the music I've made has been for use as music to accompany a TTRPG campaign I've been writing, and I think it's also suitable for video games. Mostly jazz/funk/latin styles and influences.

I hope this post doesn't violate rule 5, I'm asking for any suggestions or advice that might help me get into contact with possibly interested parties. I would like to look towards earning some income from writing music in the future but for the short-term I'm just hoping I can find ways to share the art I've created with people. I'd be happy for people to use my music in their projects and can also work with them to get music that would suit their needs as best as possible.

I have some tracks on soundcloud and dozens more I've been working on, please have a listen if you might be interested https://soundcloud.com/alan-carey-830156356

Thank you for the Refund

I appreciate them refunding my money back in the bank really quickly. It sure helps when I don't have to feel so stressed out. Thank you Musescore and if I had enough funding, I would use it. I'll keep you in mind.
