How would you all handle this simple task: Make a note in a score to another musician.

I know there are several ways to add text in musescore so there are a few different ways you could do this but i wanted to ask how you all would do this, just because i cant decide what's best.

When i have a score on a sheet of paper and i'm going to hand it over to someone and i have a few things i want them to think about and get back to me or whatever, i usually just circle the thing and write a note next to it like "What about this?"

How would you do this in musescore?

Can I sell my arrangements on MuseScore?

I have several arrangements uploaded to MuseScore and I'd really like to get some money for them, especially since I'm unemployed. Is that possible?

Is there an easy way to set an audible tempo at the start of a score?

SOLVED

I use MuseScore to get a piano rendition of parts for our a capella group to practice with, to transpose the pieces, and to generate PDFs.

One thing I would love to do is add a measure that sets the tempo - a metronome, but only in the first measure, that stops when the parts come in.

I could probably add a percussion instrument to do this, but is there a shortcut or trick I could use instead?

I'm on 4.7.2 on Windows, if it matters.

Why I stopped using streaks and badges to track music practice (and built a quiet practice space instead)

Hi everyone,

Like a lot of musicians, I’ve tried using habit trackers and productivity apps over the years to stay consistent with my practice. But after a while, I realized something was off with how these tools treat musicianship.

Most practice apps borrow their playbook straight from fitness trackers or language apps: streaks, badges, scoreboards, and daily guilt trips.

If you miss a day because life happens, you break a 40-day "streak." If you spend 45 minutes noodling around and playing pieces you already love for the sheer joy of it, the app treats it the same as 45 minutes of intense, slow-tempo deliberate practice.

Music isn't a workout regimen or a vocabulary quiz. The practice room should feel like a sanctuary—a quiet space where intention becomes progress, without losing what made you fall in love with your instrument in the first place.

That’s why I decided to build Satie (named after Erik Satie).

Instead of gamifying practice, I wanted a tool built around how musicians actually work at the music stand:

  • No streaks, no guilt, no scoreboards: Your instrument shouldn't feel like a chore list. If you don't practice for three days, Satie welcomes you back without telling you that you "lost your streak."
  • Distinguishing "Playing" vs. "Practicing": Playing a piece for fun and actively working on a section you can't hit yet aren't the same thing. Satie keeps that distinction so you can track true progress on active repertoire without discounting casual play.
  • Staying in the flow: Built-in utilities (like a tuner and practice log) right on your stand, so you don't have to jump between five different apps or manage duplicate sheet music libraries.

It’s currently in early access at getsatie.com, but before rolling it out broadly, I wanted to open a conversation here:

How do you currently track your practice routines, and how do you feel about gamification (streaks/badges) when applied to learning an instrument?

Would love to hear how other musicians approach this balance!

Muse Brass doesn’t exist?

Hey guys, for some reason my Muse Brass isn’t working or even showing up. The muse basic sounds are absolutely horrendous and I hate them, they ruin my score.

What can I do to get them back? I’m supposed to show this piece to a bunch of clients and if I show it like this, I’ll literally get fired.

Thanks 😊

Just a cute little piece I composed

Well, there's nothing much to say about it, it's just a cute little piece :) I'd love to hear what you think of it

Ps. Is it okay to post just youtube links? I don't know if it's a temporary error but reddit won't let me attach any files

Is the Musesounds viola staccato practically inaudible for everyone else?

It does not seem to be balanced at all relative to the other string staccatos. I am having to dynamic it at ff to even be audible against the violin's mf. Note I am not talking about the solo instruments, but the orchestral sections. Why is it so quiet? It seems like it must be an error so I'm wondering if it is the same on everyone's Musesounds - I could only find one other post about it, and I'd think more people would have noticed it, so I'm hoping its just a rare glitch and someone knows a fix.

How to polish the conductor's score

Hello Reddit,

I have recently arranged a piece for large orchestra with choir, but I am having some troubles getting the main score look professional. As you can see in the image below, largely because of the lyrics the vertical alignment between staves of differnet pages vary a lot. Do you know any way to "lock" the vertical positioning so that it looks as a proper conductor score? Or is that even the right approach, is it fine to have different vertical distances between staves in a score? (I am not a conductor myself)

I have turned off vertical alignment in Styles and decreased the max. vertical distance, but that made no differnce for me.

Thanks!

The Electro Suite - My Orchestral Arrangement

Hey everyone, I’m White_Winter.

I recently finished an arrangement of The Electro Suite (Electro’s Theme) from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, originally composed by Hans Zimmer, The Magnificent Six and others.

I arranged it for:

• Clarinet in Bb
• 1st & 2nd Electric Guitars
• Electric Bass
• SATB Choir
• 1st & 2nd Violins
• Violas
• Cellos
• Double Basses
• Percussion

The full score is available on MuseScore here:
The Electro Suite (Electro’s Theme) - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

I'd love to hear what other composers/arrangers think, especially regarding the orchestration, balance between the different sections, and the way the choir and strings interact with the electric instruments.

Any feedback is very welcome!

Bass tab flags under staff ins stead of attached to tab numbers

https://preview.redd.it/4grrebxdejjh1.png?width=1866&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea0071058b9e0ad100a7a512bd557c42117bbd6b

Here are 2 score (both versions of the same song), on the left all the noteflags for the tabs are below the staff, on the right there are attached to the tab numbers. Is this a setting somewhere? I would like both to be as the one on the right.

Edit: as you can see on the right a have a linked stave with traditional bass cleff notation. Removing this, or adding it to the other score doesn't change anytning.

Also loading another style in any of the 2 score doesn't change anything, so it doesn't look like it is in the style settings.

Should I download from musehub?

I plan on writing piano music and only that. I’m using the free version of musescore which only has “keys” sound not piano.

I heard very fishy things about musehub (bloatware, fishy installs etc.) so was wondering.

1- Is musehub safe? Or is it considered a fishy software?

2- If I only care about piano and plan on staying free not paid, would musehub help download better piano sounds than “key” for free? Because if not then do I have any need for it at all?

3- Is musehub peer-to-peer (p2p)? I live in Japan and p2p type apps (torrent-like apps) can actually get me in trouble somewhat

Thanks!

Cantai is AMAZING except for this one thing...

I wanna make clear that i love cantai, it's an amazing tool. Also, i might be the only one experiencing this issue so let it not prevent you from trying it.

My problem with cantai is that i can't really use it offline. By offline i mean with the wi-fi turned off. I always get a ''couldn't render online sounds'' message.

  • Yes, i activated the MS4 '''offline mode''' in the sound parameters as their manual explains

  • yes i'm on the latest version of MS and musehub

  • yes i'm on a compatible computer (mac studio with 48GB RAM and a M4 max chip - not intel chip)

  • Yes i know their manual says it requires an internet connection for identification purposes. But the thing is once i'm identified (AKA logged in both musescore studio and musehub and with both apps opened), why would i need constant internet connection ?

  • yes i already reported the issue to their team (they agreed it's a bug)

If it wasn't for that offline issue i would've already bought a cantai license as i LOVE this tool.

Add portamento

Is there a way to add a strings portamento and get it played by MuseSounds (Core version)? I have seen post to remove portamentos, but not to add it…

How can I make a 1–3 repeat ending jump to Verse 1, then Verse 2, then Verse 3?

I'm trying to notate the repeat structure for a song in MuseScore 4 Studio.

1. Ending of chorus before 3 verses

2. Ending of chorus after 3 verses

3. The 3 verses, all different melodies

4. Ending of the 3 verses

The structure is:

Chorus → Verse 1 → Chorus → Verse 2 → Chorus → Verse 3 → Chorus

The chorus has a 1–3 ending labelled 'to Verses', as shown in the first screenshot.

I have the three verses written separately:

  • Verse 1 – melody
  • Verse 2 – descant over the melody
  • Verse 3 – descant over the melody

At the end of each verse I have a D.S., which sends the music back to the chorus.

The problem is that when the chorus reaches its 1–3 ending, MuseScore always goes back to Verse 1. I want it to behave like this:

First time: Chorus → Verse 1 → D.S. → Chorus Second time: Chorus → Verse 2 → D.S. → Chorus Third time: Chorus → Verse 3 → D.S. → final refrain/end

Is there a way to achieve this using MuseScore's repeat/volta/D.S. functionality, so that the 1–3 ending automatically selects Verse 1, Verse 2, and Verse 3 on successive passes?

Or does MuseScore require a different repeat structure for this?

I've attached screenshots showing the chorus ending and the three verses.

Edit: I realize that linking the full score might help. My Soul Magnifies the Lord

We need a way to rollback the last Muse Brass update

The recent Muse Brass is catastrophic to me and it has ruined pieces I had been working on for a very long time.

There is no way to preview an update, nor to rollback in case of issue, which is unacceptable. I own many high end commercial libraries (Cinematic Studio, Spitfire, Vienna) and they always explain how to back up and restore the previous version of the samples if needed when they publish an update.

Since I have the older version of Muse Brass on an old computer I tried copying these Instruments folders and overwrite the new version on my usual laptop, but then Muse Brass stopped being available in MuseScore.

More generally, we need more transparency and flexibility regarding MuseSounds updates because the current practices are actively fostering distrust.

After an update, all sounds are different

So, today I decided to accept the update to MS 4.7.4. After the update, I had to reinstall the whole MuseSounds Core thing.

Problem is: the new sounds are really different from the 'old' ones, and now the rendering of my compositions is just awful. The strings, the trumpets, even the oboe and clarinet… I think it's worse than the previous ones I had (it were free ones too!) and I HATE it. And therefor, my whole library of my own compositions is now ugly when I listen to it…

Is there a way to get back to the previous state of things?
