Organ sonata for saxophones

I find organ music can make great source material for saxophone ensembles. Josef Rheinberger has a cycle of sonatas that move through (almost) all the major and minor keys. His first, in C minor has a lovely Andante middle section and ends with an early example of his mastery of fugal counterpoint.

Buying used experience

I've been wanting to expand my sax family and keep an eye out on local postings. I saw one this week for a King Super 20 tenor and took the chance to check it out. I went with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised at how easily it played even with the cheap Rico mouthpiece it had. I felt like it was a no-lose situation. It seems like it's been sitting unused for a while but will take it in to the local shop for a quick once over. And bonus when I got it home, there was a second mouthpiece - Berg Larsen metal from the 60's.

A Christmas Greeting

This is my biggest work to date for concert band rather than my saxophone ensemble arrangements. This is a band arrangement of a chamber work of Edward Elgar. I'm still finishing editing so feedback would be most appreciated. It's public domain so I'd love to share it with any groups that may be interested.

Three Impromptus for sax quintet

Adding something classical this week to our repertoire. imslp.org is a great resource for music and I often end up going down a rabbit hole looking for pieces that would be good for saxophone arrangements. I'm already partial to organ pieces since the voicing translates well to saxes and I stumbled on this work by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. It has some great textures and mix of styles in a late Romantic piece.

You've Got A Friend (Carole King) for Saxophone Quintet (SATTB)

Recently saw the musical, Beautiful, and felt we needed some Carole King in our repertoire. This is just one of her many classics.
