Advice on transferring to ncsu!!!

Hi! I recently got rejected from ncsu and now unsure of what do. I’ve already committed to Unc Charlotte as a finance major I understand its a good school but I really don’t want to go there for personal reasons. I was hoping that if I do end up going there I would transfer for the spring semester to Ncsu. However, I am unsure how likely it is for me to get into state during the spring semester and how does the application process work? especially if im transferring from college to another. I am also considering attending wake tech and completing 2 years before transferring to ncsu for my last 2. I know that will save me lots of money especially since im not really excited to attend uncc. I was wondering how the process of transferring from wake tech to ncsu will work? would I be able to transfer after one year instead of two? I have taken 8 AP Classes and dual enrollment so would that should cover some credits and help begin building up my credit? Would it be smarter to choose Wake Tech or UNCC if I am planning on transferring? Thank you!!

Raleigh Animazement this week

Hey everyone!

This is going to be my very first time attending Animazement. I’m super excited but going solo, so I’d love to find some people to hang out and explore the con floor with! Also, since I'm a first-timer, any must-know tips or unwritten rules for this con?

Drop a comment or shoot me a DM if you want to group up or grab a bite together. Hope to see some of you there!

Hi everyone,

You are recommended to take part in the 'AI Use in College Learning Survey.' This study will help us learn more about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in your college learning process and the role that these tools shape your academic experiences.

This research is being conducted with a professor in Ocean County College.

This survey is voluntary; if you decide to take part in this survey, you will be asked to answer eighteen (18) questions (17 multiple-choice questions and one short response question), which will take around 10-15 minutes to complete.

You can find the survey here:

- By clicking this link AI Use in College Learning Survey, to access it directly.

- By copying and pasting this URL https://forms.gle/ZubsCJabNRVLpVhA7.

If you are not currently enrolled in any college or university, then you are not advised to take part in this survey. Nevertheless, you are encouraged to share this survey with an eligible respondent.

Before responding here are some important things to note before attempting the survey.

The questions included will be related to:

  • Your academic background (only includes your age group, academic level, and area of study)
  • Frequency of AI tools used and which tools you use
  • Uses of AI in your academic studies
  • Your opinions about the use of AI tools in learning and academic achievements
  • View about academic integrity and concerns related with the use of AI tools

Please note that:

  • All data you provided will be kept confidential and will not identify you in any way.
  • Only information related to your age, academic level, and your major will be collected.
  • Information including your email, name, gender, where you study, and other sensitive information will not be collected.
  • The software 'Google Forms' will require you to sign in for you to complete the survey; we will not collect your email addresses.
  • You have the option to skip certain questions and leave the survey at any time you want, and there will be no consequences for you if you decide not to answer the questions.
  • You will not be entered into any draws for prizes. There is no financial incentive to complete this survey.

We appreciate your time and cooperation.

Regards,

A student from Ocean County College

Aerospace CODA chances?

Hey yall I'm an incoming transfer student from Wake Tech and was accepted to NC State for CS (as a junior) but Aerospace is kinda what I really want. I have a 3.95 GPA, A's in all my CODA classes and a few math competition awards. I am also planning to take some engineering classes at Wake Tech to finish some aero requirements. I emailed the engineering dept and they basically said internal transfer/CODA into Aerospace is very difficult because of limited spots and one recent cycle only had 1 student get in through internal transfer. Has anyone been through this or know how realistic my chances are? Should I keep trying for Aero or just plan on staying in CS? I understand why this may be a stupid question to ask but any advice from someone who’s been in my situation would be helpful.

Dorm kitchen/meal plan question

Hello!

I’m a transfer student coming to NC State this fall, and I’m trying to figure out how realistic it is to cook my own meals and save money while living in a dorm.

I actually really enjoy cooking, and I’m pretty good at it, but every dorm kitchen I’ve seen at colleges looks tiny, crowded, or badly maintained. Meal prepping in those setups seems like it could become a nightmare pretty quickly.

I’m also an athlete who absolutely inhales food, think 220g protein and around 5000 calories a day. Unfortunately I wasn’t recruited, so I can’t use the athlete meal plan setup.

Has anyone here managed to mostly cook for themselves while dorming at NC State? How did you make it work?

Things I’m wondering about:

  • Are the communal kitchens actually usable?
  • Is fridge/freezer space a huge problem?
  • Did you still end up needing a meal plan anyway?
  • Any dorms that are better or worse for cooking?
  • What meals/foods worked realistically?

I’m trying to figure out whether:

  1. Cooking most of my meals is actually possible, or
  2. I should just accept that dining halls + simple dorm food is the more realistic option for my first year.

Would really appreciate any honest experiences or advice.

Reminder to Rate your Landlords and Professors

As everyone heads home for summer, I just wanted to take a second to reflect on the past year at MSU. East Lansing always has a way of turning chaos into memories somehow.

This year was a mix of late nights, random memories, stressful moments, great people, and a lot of lessons learned. Now that classes and finals are mostly behind us, it feels like the perfect time to leave some honest feedback that could help other students next semester.

If you lived off-campus this year, especially if you dealt with a landlord or property company, consider sharing your experience on https://judgemylandlord.com . Good landlords deserve recognition, and bad ones shouldn’t keep getting away with ruining students’ housing situations. Your review could genuinely help another student avoid signing a nightmare lease next year.

And if you haven’t already, take a few minutes to review your professors on https://www.ratemyprofessors.com too. A lot of students rely on those reviews when choosing classes, and honestly, the professor you get can completely change your experience in a course.

We have way more power as students than we think. Sharing honest experiences makes college life more transparent for everyone coming after us.

Hope everyone has an amazing summer, stays safe, and enjoys the break. And congrats again to all the graduating seniors ❤️

Honors program

is there any benefits to the honors program?

i got an enrollment fee waiver, but having to take the forum and have all these requirements doesn’t exactly fit into what i had in mind schedule wise if that makes sense. i’m not sure if it’s for me personally, as there are other things i’d like to focus on.

i had considered declining my spot and wanted to ask others if it was ‘worth it’ per say.

ST 371 with Elijah Meyer in the Summer

I’ve been told to take Stats this summer to protect my GPA as I plan to go to grad school. I was wondering if this was true. I feel like taking ST 371, EnNG 331, and PY 208. Will be a nightmare this summer.

Anyone had Elijah Meyer if so how is he?

Advice: general chem 1 and 2 finals

I took general chemistry 1 and 2 at a community college and passed, but with lower grades than I'd prefer. Our tests were autogenerated by the hybrid online testing tool we used. I wanted to see how well I'd do compared to an NCSU chem 1 or 2 final since I plan on transferring there.

Since spring classes are through, I was thinking about emailing a chemistry professor at NCSU and asking if they'd be willing to send me a copy of this past semester's final so I can test myself. Would this be an inappropriate or unreasonable request? I don't want to unnecessarily bother a professor.

Or, maybe someone on here has the test they took. I'm not sure if your tests are given on paper or not.

Let me know what you all think about this. Thanks

Question

My son would be 3rd gen NCSU (though we heard that doesn't matter anymore)

Has a 3.8+ unweighted, 4.3+ weighted, a 1400 SAT, and lots of rigor on his HS transcript

Does NCSU now require applicants pick a major and if so, how does that impact admissions?

Are some majors "better" (less competitive admissions) to apply for than others? If so, which ones?

thanks!

Undergraduate Research Advice?

I recently emailed a professor for undergraduate research, and I’m meeting him this friday for the first time. He may or may not give me the position based on how our meeting goes.

What can I do to prepare, and if anyone has experienced this kind of meeting, how does it usually go? Any help would mean a lot.

ID cards after graduation

Hey y’all, I graduated recently and I was wondering how long my id will still work, like how long can I still go to the gym/makerspace/get student discounts? I was also wondering when the stuff for setting up an alumni email account would come through.
