Question for Graduating batch

First of all congrats to who ever of you reading this is graduating this year from NUST, honestly it's a little hard for anyone to describe the feelings to whom who are yet to spend some years here, not gonna ask that. But 3 questions for sure:

  1. The best thing of NUST you'll remember

  2. What thing was the one which you wanted to be changed but didn't, in your 4 years here? Maybe the current juniors can make that change somehow

  3. The 4 years before person vs current person of you.

Can I get in?

Can I get into SEECS with a 79.6% aggregate. I got 149 marks in NET 1 and haven't given NET 2 or 3. Is my aggregate enough for SEECS or should I give NET 4?

Advise for Female Engineering Aspirants

I have realised many females struggle in to continue in core engineering jobs as they are not well guided, or they dont have any idea on industries. I have made some points for the female aspirants so they dont get a surprise after joining the industry in Pakistan.

This is especially for girls who are thinking of a career in Mechanical engineering.I have mentioned the stuff that can bother some females , so after reading this u will know what to expect in your journey.

  1. Male staff dominance

As an engineer working in a plant u will be interacting with all kinds of men , educated and non educated too. U should have enough confidence to speak up.Try to communicate with your male classmates, be confident as this skill is very important in the field of engineering.

2.Night shifts

If u are working in a plant that works 24/7 , be ready for night shifts , mostly petroleum, textile ,big manufacturing plants (pepsi, coke etc) work on 24/7 model. Either u will be given days or in some cases they company would demand u 24/7 arrive on call duty.If the HR ask u on night shift kindly say yes , otherwise u will lose your chance.

3.Relocation

Industries are located out of big city residential area as its not an common office. Be ready mentally to travel 1 hour + for work daily. And if u get an offer in a rural place u might need to relocate to the nearest city. This will be mentioned on your job interview too, Something like "Are u willing to relocate?" dont say no. if u want the job as this is something very important to have the engineer near the plant for many companies.

4.Working conditions

As an engineer u will have 10k steps on average, and most areas in the plant are not well air conditioned too. U do get a office/cabin but most of the time u will be out. Be ready mentally to be physically exhausted in your job.

5.Rejections

Some companies have a habbit to reject female engineers , not much common on big fertiliser or petroleum industry. But this can happen as companies do prefer male in production related jobs , dont be dis hearted keep trying , eventually u will get one.

This post is just to give an overview, so u are prepared for the challenges.

If these points are not a big issue for u , your journey will be alot smoother. There are some mechanical engineers working in some big companies. The starting years are kind of struggle slowly the journey gets smooth.

Mechanical Engineering is a good option for me ??? Please Answer

I am currently in ICS second year and now I want to do Mechanical Engineering I was firstly thinking of CS but I don't like coding so is BS ME a good option and are there enough jobs for Mechanical Engineers. I saw the course content there is coding course in Mechanical Engineering but it's not too intensive and I want to work in a field in Mechanical Engineering which has very less coding like maybe in Renewable energy side or in any field where I don't have to do coding that much so tell me about that fields as well. Please guide me. Thanks a lot for your time l

O/A levels kids

So guys is it true that nust just requires your o levels’ grades as you get admitted before the result of a levels come out but if you’re on a gap year so only then it will require A levels’ grade as well??
If yes then what if I leave my one of the subjects of A2 to take in oct/nov, will I get admission?

Got 75% in FSc and 86% in Matric. Want to do BS AI/CS/DS at NUST, FAST, COMSATS, or AIR University.

Realistic chances? If these are out of reach, what are my alternatives?

Dead life.

Sometimes life feel like a shit, being a premed student on a gap year no interest in medical field and weren't able to crack mdcat leaved by a small percentage, shifting to pre engineering because you love it and covering the maths books in 4 months that pre engrr students cover in 2 years at this stage I feel like life is not going well life is dead and boaring never being our for enjoyment for a tour or something from the start of FSC ,no friends cause spending the whole time from years in books and lectures and after giving so much time and years still you are a zero you haven't achieved something, surviving on caffeine, tension and anxieties, sitting on a chair from morning to evening in a shot from years, back pain and belly out, eye lids formed, no motivation....... At this stage you are thinking what if I wasnt able to crack the engineering university entry test what if my gap year is wasted.....

Hashim zia is overrated

I have joined Hashim zia batch, but all I get is a plethora of material with not that much advanced. they make you stuck in the basics, and you can't move towards advanced concepts. Their practice sheets consist of board level mcqs and test consist of too much difficult questions. I regret joining it, but i had no guidance at that time. They post a million videos on youtube so that students get attracted.

How tough is relative grading at SEECS?

(Senior ppl Help plzz)
How tough is the relative grading scene at SEECS? I’ve heard professors usually try to give the lowest number of As possible 😭 like only to few students as they aren’t allowed to give more A’s than a specific threshold ( Source: Friend of mine with D grade 😭)

Also how hard are the papers compared to FAST? I have some experience with C++ and when I saw FAST PF and OOP papers I was genuinely shocked by their difficulty even though they use absolute grading.
Are SEECS papers also that tough or is the relative grading the main issue?
