first time doing bodybuilding, hiring a coach, doing prep, etc (NYC BASED)

hiiiii guys!

my name is Gabi, i'm brazilian, 27yo, i hired a coach 5 weeks ago to help with the right training and dieting program for my ultimate goal which is to go on stage and compete, either fitmodel or bikini, we'll see.

i just started a fat loss phase that it's supposed to last 12 weeks, i'm going to my 6th week now, and already lost 6lbs! so we're making progress for sure. the next steps will be a growing phase and then actual prep for a competition, but we're talking about end of the year probably.

i live in nyc (ues), and i would love to connect with more people who are in the same process, or want to start, or are already in prep? i want to find a community around me because the process can feel lonely sometimes, i have friends that support me but they're not in the same journey as me.

thank you!! 😄

What non-workout fit/wellness/mindful activities do fit bitches do in NYC? (massages, spa, assessments, etc)

I want to learn what I'm missing in the city to enrich my life especially on a physical/mental level. Right now I regularly do:

  • at the gym: many mindful workout classes (like pilates, yoga, aerial yoga, breathwork, stretch), massage chairs, water jet beds, red light therapy
  • at home: foam rolling, lacrosse ball rolling, sometimes stretch, loosely monitor with the questionably-accurate body comp scales
    • Also tend to take baths most days, which I did to help recover muscles, but I learned recently long baths (eg 1hr+) can actually be bad and stress the body, so starting today I'm trying to make them shorter or just shower

So what ideas do you have to make the most of city life for my wellbeing?

Massages immediately come to mind, but I kinda struggle with their value - it seems very expensive for something a massage chair can kinda do? (to be clear, please give all recs even expensive - I have budget but I like value)

Tennis anyone?

Tennis weather is here!!!

Does anyone play tennis? I’m looking for people to play with. TBH I’m not that good (low intermediate?) - so anyone who’s willing to struggle with me would be perfect.

Any recommendation as to how to find tennis partners are also welcome!

fit bitches with arm muscles

I have been running and lifting weights in a small group class for years. I have very strong legs and core but have always had very weak arms- I've never been able to do a real (or even a genuine modified) pushup and my bench press weight is extremely low. I've been trying for years to slowly work my way into improving both of these and have made almost 0 progress. I've always liked the look of strong arms and really want to be physically strong, but for some reason this is the one thing I've never been able to significantly improve.

Any exercise recommendations for targeting specifically the muscles that will help me bench heavier and actually get to pushups?

Candlelit Pilates

Most relaxing and effective class I’ve taken in a while 10/10 recommend candlelit Pilates at Seaport Pilates NYC. They’re down in the Financial District and host these sessions every Thursday at 7pm. Also a great recovery for runners!
