Moving from Albany to Schenectady County. Is the pistol amendment process different?

For those of you who live in Schenectady County- what is the pistol amendment process like? I looked at the county clerk website and I know you fill out the bill of sale form. Does it still need to go to a judge or does the clerks office sign off and give you your purchase coupon?

Has anyone transferred their permit from Albany County? How smoothly did that go?

Congressman Joe Morelle demands answers on Trump gun safety rollbacks

https://morelle.house.gov/media/press-releases/congressman-joe-morelle-demands-answers-trump-gun-safety-rollbacks

Leads fellow lawmakers in raising concerns about proposed ATF changes that could weaken background checks and undermine public safety

(Washington, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle announced he led a group of more than 90 of his colleagues in demanding answers from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) after the Trump Administration announced plans to roll back dozens of federal gun safety regulations.

“The American people deserve a government focused on protecting communities and preventing gun violence, not rolling back commonsense measures that help keep families safe,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “These proposed changes could make it easier for dangerous weapons to end up in the wrong hands while making it harder for law enforcement to do their jobs. At a time when families across the country continue to face the devastating impact of gun violence, moving backward on public safety is the wrong approach.”

"After years of successfully combatting gun violence at historic levels in cities throughout this country, President Trump’s efforts to undermine that success will put lives at risk,” said Kris Brown, President of Brady. “The Trump administration's recently released rules are designed for one purpose, to allow the industry to sell more guns with less accountability, and will spur more violence after years of progress. Brady thanks Rep. Morelle and his colleagues for demanding answers from an administration that is prioritizing the interests of gun rights extremists and gun CEOs' pocketbooks over fighting crime and protect public safety."

In a letter sent this morning, the lawmakers warned the proposed changes could weaken background check requirements, make it harder for law enforcement to trace firearms used in crimes, and increase the risk of illegal gun trafficking.

Specifically, Morelle and his colleagues requested detailed answers from DOJ and ATF about the public safety impact of the proposed changes and urged the agencies to reconsider actions they say could undermine years of progress combatting gun violence. Their letter specifically raises concerns about proposals to rescind requirements for some firearm sellers to conduct background checks, repeal regulations on stabilizing braces, and reduce firearm record retention requirements that assist criminal investigations.

The full letter can be found here.

First CCW - p365xl, mp2.0, 43x

I'm going back and forth on these. Individual from here was giving some options in a different post, which I really appreciated but I didn't want to take over that thread.

I have my class in 2ish weeks and I should be able to submit my paperwork thereafter. I was going to submit an amendment at the same time but the problem is legally handling these. Seems I can't fire anything until I have a permit, I don't know anyone with these. I would like to size them up as I have smaller chubbier hands.

I have a Glock 19x replica is which is slightly larger than I'll want right now ( airgun w/blowback).. I'm leaning towards sig, because then if I want the x macro, I've read I can transfer the serialized part into a macro, and what I've seen, they seem to be good to shoot but I do like that MP. And I do want a Glock, especially before this place bans them for no reason.

What does everyone think? Options and opinions wanted. I may just end up waiting for a permit so I can shoot my 2a rights first. This will be prime CCW and range to start. As we know, they multiply... Lol

Albany County Pistol Amendment

Today marks 8 weeks and still no coupons in the mail, anyone else in Albany county want to start a thread for wait times so people know what to expect? Crazy thing is, my permit only took just shy of 3 months from the day I turned in paperwork/got fingerprinted, until permit in hand.

Do I have to put ammo in a hard case as well flying with delta out of jfk?

The website doesn’t say anything regarding hard case just to keep it in its original box. Do I also have to put it in a case or just the normal cardboard box it comes in?

Flying with a firearm

Good morning all I was traveling through NY state and an emergency has came up and it would be very ideal to fly out of the nearest airport. I have a firearm properly stored in my vehicle however I am not a NY resident. Am I able to fly out of the state with the firearm or do I have to be a legal resident/gun owner in the state of NY to do so. Thank you!

Learning to Shoot and Firearm Safety/Basics Courses in NYC Metro

Hello, I am helping someone who wants to learn firearms basics (safe handling, relevant laws, mechanics of firearms, how to shoot, etc.) They want to find a comprehensive class that is welcoming to absolute beginners, ideally somewhere in NYC or the metro area (they are on long island at the moment).

All we've found so far are the 18-hours CCW classes. Would you all say this is a good class to take or worth it, even if this person isn't necessarily interested in getting a CCW license? They are very new to guns, and I'm new to the area so I'm not sure where to send them. Any thoughts or ideas? Appreciate any suggestions - thank you!

What would you do if you were Mr. Red Shirt?

I guess this exact scenario never crossed my mind till now but imagine you were red shirt to the right of the video.

Senaeio: Seems like 2 young kids with him. Obviously not at all directly involved with the incident. You are carrying.

Part of me would feel more at ease if I drew. Like not aimed at all just a super low and concealed manner. I also realize this would most probably fall under brandishing. Seeing red shirt trying to comfort and protect his, I’m assuming, children would make drawing difficult should they become a target for whatever reason I imagine.

My plan would probably consist of putting myself and my group into a corner and wait it out. Make our way to the exit if viable.

Staying out and not a threat is the correct choice all ways around. I guess I’m just trying to see what others mindset would be.

Do you need character references for a CCW if you already have a premise license?

For eastern LI (sheriff not suffolk pd)

I know you need to take the course, but do you still need character references if you already have a valid pistol license and a semi auto endorsement?

Character reference minimum age knowing applicant

Does anyone know the minimum number of years a character reference needs to know an applicant for Westchester County, or how to find out? I can’t find it anywhere on the county clerk website

Also I found out from my 18 hour course that effective May 1st, 2026, you no longer need to purchase a firearm prior to submitting your application. Of course the application on their website still says you need to. It’s crazy we can’t get basic competency from our government to update documents in a normal fashion
