Nikon Universal Recipes

Probably my final set of recipes I’ll make! I tested them all out on auto exposure as some prior recipes needed +/- exposure values to get the look. Tried to go for less contrast for the final set to allow for more flexibility! Appreciate all the feedback I’ve had on prior recipes so I hope you enjoy! Happy shooting!

Settings are all the same
WB: 5880k 0.25M tint
DL: Low (doesn’t make a huge deal of difference)

Nikon ZF or Fujifilm XT5

Hi there! I’m in the market to purchase a new camera, and have been looking at the Fuji
Xt50, Xt5, and now the Nikon ZF. For some background, I have been shooting for about a year now with a canon. I primarily shoot landscapes and portraits, and I travel quite a bit. Right now, I’m approaching a busy point in my life where I don’t really have the time to edit photos or the money to drop on Lightroom. Of course, the retro styling has definitely pushed me towards these three cameras as well, but I love how the dials cater to a more “manual” experience.

My real question I guess is how good are jpegs out of the ZF? JPEG is not end all be able for me, I want to be able edit raw down the line when I have time, but right now I want to be able to enjoy the camera I buy. NX studio is also an attractive inclusion, but how useful is it? Would I be better off going with Fuji at the moment, or is the ZF a suitable choice?

Edit: I just went to Best Buy, and the xt5 ergonomically feels miles better. This isn’t the deciding factor…yet. But I tried holding the Nikon ZF, and I just couldn’t get it to feel great. A grip could always fix that, but still

Things I've seen around Texas this summer

Assorted glass...from memory, some Voigtlander 40/1.2, Sirui 75 Astra, Viltrox 26 EVO. It's hot out there, y'all.

Just a few recents

Just a few random shots mostly with the 40mm f2 and the 24-70mm f4s. Some Jpgs with a cinestill profile , some raw with post edits. The one with all the plastic glasses art was meter for the windows and then the room lit with the sb800 and a diffuser. Cheers. I love this camera.

First shots with my new Z F.

Grabbed a Z F for pretty cheap, couldn't resist. Also got the Viltrox 55mm f1.8 for it.

Silver ZF with Voigtlander lens?

A rare request to actually see a picture of your camera. I have a silver ZF and I’m Voigtlander-curious. I haven’t seen many pictures of these lenses on the silver body. If you run this combo I’d love to see it. Also if anyone is feeling chatty, would love to hear about your favorite manual focus lens.

Couple photography with the Plena

with a few 40mm shots sprinkled in. The Plena is an absolutely beautiful lens.

Voigtlander 28 APO-Lanthar or Nokton?

Looking for a Z mount 28mm for my Zf and am curious to know what you all think of these two lenses. I own the Voigt 40 Nokton and absolutely love it. I also have the Nikkor 28 AI-S that I've used, but don't love having to use the adapter, hence my look at the z-mount Voigts. Thoughts?

My main use would be family, travel and some street. I've looked at the Nikon version, but really want the aperture ring on the lens. Thanks!

Astrophotography Lens

This is more a general Nikon Z question than specific to the Zf, but since I'm already on this group, I figured I'd ask.

Any recommendations for a fast, wide (ultra wide even) prime? For Canon I used a combination of the RF 16 2.8 and RF 24 1.8.

Something around the 20mm and F2 or faster would be ideal.

Yes, I can Google lens options, but I like having real world recommendations over specifications on a page.

Dino in the wild on my Zf + Viltrox 55

I almost didn't go for a drive tonight. I almost didn't bring my camera. I'm glad I didn't almost anything because as I was driving around looking for subjects, I spotted this beautiful Dino parked outside gas monkey icehouse and had to stop to take some shots. Sorry if they're repetitive. I didn't know how much time I had and couldn't move it.

It's not unheard of for amazing cars to be parked outside this place if you know it and the owner, Richard. It was unheard of for that to be there alone, during golden hour and nobody else around it. After 5 mins a couple came out and the guy started touching the rear quarter like he saw a scratch. I assumed he was the owner but turns out he was the painter! He was out to dinner with the owner and some friends so I was able to talk cars for a bit while getting these shots. Gave him my card so hopefully he calls me for a real shoot.

What’s your favorite Nikon Imaging Recipe so far?

It’s been a couple of years since Nikon’s Imaging Recipes were introduced, so I’m Curious what everyone’s favorite recipe(s) has been so far.

If you decided not to shoot RAW for a day and just wanted to enjoy shooting JPEGs, which recipe would you choose?

Obviously, you would still make small exposure adjustments if needed, but otherwise I’m thinking basically straight out of camera. No color correction afterward.

If you could only pick one or two recipes, what would they be?

New to Nikon

Long-term Canon shooter, but I've finally joined the Nikon ranks.

The ZF won me over with the FM2 Inspired design. I still shoot film (Olympus OM10) and used to shoot Fuji and genuinely enjoy the tactile feedback of physical dials.

Which camera lens combo would recommend for me?

(1)

  1. 2400ish USD , USA

(2)

  1. Have Sony nex 3 from 15 years ago. Replacing as a combination of some mechanical failing and am sometimes limited by the light performance and lens.

(3)

  1. Family, building, outdoor art, portrait, street, light animals

(4

  1. ) photography

I know there are other options, but two front runners
are purchasing a Nikon ZF with 40mm lens or a Fuji XT50 and use the savings for a Fuji 16mm F2 or Fuji 23mm f2.8. First camera purchase in 15 years. Lots of personal family with fast moving kids and personal events ( 70% or so of shooting) and the other 30% is a mix of street , city shooting with a focus on graffiti and tagging, and light animals. I know it’s not wise to just think about my next trip, but part of the impetus to purchase a new camera is an upcoming Disneyland trip with the family and other relatives. Would love any feedback, recommendations, or whatever you’re willing to share. Thank you!
