Pictures of Kijong-dong in North Korea which is set up in the DMZ. Which is said to be a fake Juche propaganda ghost town made by North Korea to encourage South Korean defection.

Aug. 4, 2015. A view from Juche Tower

August 4, 2015. The view is from the top of Juche Tower, facing north, so at the bottom is Taedonggang, to the lower left are Kim Il Sung Square and the Grand People's Study House. In the distant upper right is, of course, the unmistakable Ryugyong Hotel.

Out of sight, to the left, was my hotel, the Yanggakdo International Hotel, which offered another interesting angle on the heart of Pyongyang, especially at night when all but the square and the tower had significant lighting.

I was only in NK for six or seven days, as a tourist, and it was hot in Pyongyang, hot in Kaesong, hot at Panmunjom, hot along the DMZ... The haziness you see in this photo is a dense blanket of humidity rising up from the river, not air pollution. But the view from atop the tower was very interesting. I have photos from other sides of the tower; I might share them later if anyone's interested.

Anyone know what rank this woman is based on the insignia?

I’m thinking anywhere from 2nd-Lieutenant to Major, but I can’t tell.

Recent Chinese documentary shows rare footage of Kim Il Sung tumor on his neck

Recent Chinese official Documentary “Jiang Zeming” reveals rare footage of Kim Il-sung‘s visit to China.

The trip occurred amid profound geopolitical shifts for North Korea, including the Soviet Union's decision to establish formal diplomatic relations with South Korea.

North Korean leader Kim Il Sung developed a large, baseball-sized tumor on the right side of the back of his neck by the 1970s. State media enforced a strict ban, forbidding photographers from capturing his right profile to protect his flawless public image.

Pyongyang Chollima street in the early 1970s

It's so clean and beautiful. Way better than how Pyongyang looks today. I love the grid (wafers-like) pattern of the white-gray concrete architectures, especially the ones in the front right side of the picture. These were the luxury apartments, which were exclusively guaranteed for high-ranking officials. I really hope they are restored via facadism after the reunification of Korea.
