Is it worth restoring?

My 1988 f250 xlt lariat 5.8l

I have good knowledge of mechanical work. I had planned to pull the engine to do all the engine gaskets and make it nicer. Maybe delete the egr system. I have no idea how many miles are on it. And I am going to do the rust repair.

Stock mirrors or aftermarket?

I personally love the upgrade to these bigger mirrors, you can actually see when backing up vs those tiny stock mirrors, wondering what y'all think?

Help

I have a 1992 f-150 351 winsdor E4OD, I have had issues with the trans before and mainly the VSS. I replaced the VSS and the connector. It’s not doing hard bang shifts anymore however I’ve ran into a worse problem. Now my truck has issues with shifting. It will rapidly and uncontrollably shift up and down and up and down, OD to 3, then OD then 3 the 2 then slowing down it’ll go 2 to 1 then 2 then 3 then 2. I checked codes and the only thing it gave me was torque converter excessive slip and torque converter solinoid failure…. That doesn’t seem right because the torque converter has been locking right and acting just fine… I’ve replaced the TPS sensor, vss sensor and connector. I cleaned out the main solinoid pack connector on the side of the trans, replaced filter and fluid in the trans at 119k miles 3k ago…. I’ve done a number of things to this truck. The E4OD is a total trash can on fire but It’s my only truck and I’m needing it….. it actually only has 122k original miles on both engine and transmission…. Research has took me to MLPS sensor but I’m just not totally sure. I need to figure this out as quickly as possible and I really don’t wanna take it to a mechanic to charge me 500 for a diagnostic and possibly thousands more for a rebuild or some shit. I’m almost certain it’s electrical, any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

I need help identifying heater core return host component 1990 F250 460 7.5

I need help identifying heater core return host component.

1990 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat, 7.5L (460 CID) V8, EFI, VIN G, 2-Valve

While removing the heater core, I discovered that both the heater supply and return hoses are extremely brittle and essentially fused to the heater core tubes. Rather than trying to save them, I'd like to replace both hoses while everything is apart.

The issue I'm running into is identifying the heater return hose assembly. It has a molded/plastic tee with a smaller coolant hose that runs back to the radiator filler neck. My understanding is that this is part of the cooling system's bleed/deaeration circuit, since there is already a separate overflow hose running from the radiator neck to the coolant recovery reservoir.

Does anyone know:

  • The correct Ford or Motorcraft part number for this hose assembly?
  • If it's discontinued, is there a quality aftermarket replacement?
  • Or is the best option to build a new hose assembly using a replacement tee fitting?

Any help or part numbers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Getting a 5.0L pulled and overhauled. What else would you fix?

My '94 F150 with the 5.0L has around 170k miles, and leaks oil from all over the place. Besides that it mostly runs fine.

I need to get the leaks fixed, and I am looking into having a mechanic pull the engine and replace all of the gaskets, hoses, vacuum tubes, spark plugs & wires, and the oil pan.

While the engine is pulled and there is easy access, what other parts would you recommend replacing that typically start going out at 170k+ miles?

Should I be considering a rebuilt engine, or is an overhaul like this a good enough option? I've heard that rebuilt engines "aren't built like they used to" and the original factory engines are pretty darn dependable.

The mechanic I'm talking to for a quote knows these trucks inside and out and he did a similar job for someone else who referred me to them. Theirs turned out really nice, and it doesn't leak a drop.

Interested to hear about your experiences with overhauls vs rebuilt engines. Thanks!

Brakes broke after the break

My 96 F150 sat for a couple months and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. Still had brakes but not much. What would do that just from sitting? Booster is my guess but wanted to ask if there’s something else it could be. Thanks
