Summer Financial Aid
Anybody had any luck getting in touch with someone from financial aid, regarding summer aid? I still have a balance, which I’ve never had to experience before. I should have about $10k left in loans for the entire year… yet, the section is saying “NA” for summer 2026. I submitted the request to increase my offer for the summer twice since last week and nothing has changed.
summer course materials issue
Is anyone else having trouble accessing their course materials through Canvas? I am enrolled in a summer class that started yesterday. I received all the emails from B&N at ODU saying that my (included) digital textbook would be delivered via Canvas through the "Course Materials" sidebar link, but it does not even exist on my class' Canvas page. I asked the instructor and she said the Bookstore would help with this request so I am going to contact them, but I wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue. TIA
general deadlines for incoming freshmen
im attending odu in the fall and want to get an idea on the deadlines and if everything is actually over for me tbh. i havent begun applying for housing and still have a lot of things to check off of the list in midas. i def shouldve done it months ago lol but are me and my friend screwed?
Military, others, veterans, students, if you need an in-person course or class this summer semester, due to GI Bill benefits, I have found one that the professor specifically said she needs more students to enroll in and which has no prerequisites.
As stated in the title in a long-winded manner (to ensure Google helps you find this result) the professor explicitly said she needs more students in the class. This is for the summer 2026 full semester, so it should help to ensure the in-person requirement is satisfied if you have no other options. Hope to see you there; it sounds like an interesting class.
Class name and course number:
"Linguistics for Working with Multilingual Populations" (CGE 449).
CYSE 270 Class has no professor anymore??
So I'm in the Linux CYSE 270 class this summer, which was supposed to start today. (Note: I emailed my advisor already.) I kept checking Canvas all day and the class isn't on there yet. I checked ODU portal, and suddenly the class doesn't have an instructor anymore??? According to registration, there's 11 registered students for this class. Why were we not told the class had no professor? Like, I still got charged money for this class. I'm so confused...
Really didn’t get processed today.
Really gotta play the waiting game all day tomorrow 🥲. Stillllll on NEGATIVE 🙃
Considering going to ODU for an MBA.
I just graduated from Virginia Tech last week with my Master of Information Technology and I’ve taken leave of my senses and decided to start an MBA Spring ‘27 (I need a breather). ODU’s online MBA is ranked pretty high by Princeton Review and other sites, but I’ve also been reading some gnarly stuff on Reddit. They have a graduate certificate I can bolt on that’s very relevant to my industry (public procurement and contracting) which is why I’m considering them. I’m self-pay so I need a program that clicks in under $40k over three years. I’m also considering going back to VT or maybe going to Iowa. Looking for some insights from folks that are either currently enrolled in ODU’s MBA or have recently graduated to provide some insight. Even better if anyone’s completed the certificate I mentioned. Thanks!
Yall still sitting at negative or naw👀
Like fr just wanna make sure I’m not the only one still waiting with a negative balance 😭.
Removing courses from Canvas?
Hello! My summer courses have populated in Canvas, but my spring courses are still there. I was able to move them to the bottom of the list of courses, but I was wondering if there’s a way to completely remove them?
Don’t go to ODU
This is my first semester and I wish I could undo it.
I got my associates degree at 2 different community colleges(I moved) and so I have 2 other schools of experience to compare it to: ODU is not a good school. I’ve never felt so unsupported and helpless to a machine of a system as much as here. It took me weeks to get any communication whatsoever back from my assigned advisor. Right now I’m dealing with proving my existence to a professor who simply did not take record of me completing an assignment so I get no credit and she’s gaslighting me saying it never happened. Plus I failed an exam due to the canvas shutdown and the professor and school are like that’s your grade kid sorry womp womp. Who can help you? Idk maybe if you call a bunch of numbers and get rerouted over and over for 45 minutes that’ll help. I wish I could go back in time and undo choosing this university.
Looking to Transfer to another college from ODU
Two semesters in. I like the college. Eventful for when going outdoors but when dealing with classes, can be underwhelming.
Majoring for cybersecurity online during the next ODU semester.
After that, im looking to choose transfer to another college between Virginia Beach to Chester.
Anybody give the best colleges that can the best transfer to be more better!
Math placement test at home
My son will be starting at ODU this fall and needs to take a math placement test. According to the website, there is a $5 “at home” test option but my son has been having difficulty figuring out how to register/login and take the test using the Respondus Lockdown browser. He’s reached out to his advisor and to the contact on the ALEKS page with little luck.
Is the home test a viable option or should he just register for a Zoom session placement test?
Starting ODUglobal in 2027
Hello everyone! Are there anyone in this Reddit group enrolled at ODUglobal or have already graduated from ODUglobal? What was your experience like? 🙂
Transferring sevis from odu
Hello everyone, I’m an international student admitted to ODU, but I’m now considering another university. Does ODU allow a SEVIS transfer before the start of the program?
Summer FAFSA
Is FAFSA giving summer aid? Sorry if this is a silly question, but this is my first time using FAFSA.
Volunteer Roles
Hey everyone,
My family and I recently launched a Virginia-based environmental nonprofit called the Society for a Secure and Sustainable Water Future (S4SSWF), and we’re currently looking for volunteers who are interested in sustainability, environmental policy, media, outreach, nonprofit work, or water security.
Our work focuses heavily on rainwater harvesting, water sustainability, environmental education, and advocacy. Over the years, we’ve been involved in real-world rainwater harvesting implementation projects and advocacy efforts connected to Virginia legislation and public awareness initiatives surrounding sustainable water infrastructure. We are actually currently preparing for a project with GMU.
Right now we’re trying to build a strong volunteer network and are looking for self-motivated people who want to help us grow.
Some of the areas we’re recruiting for include:
- Social media/content creation
- Outreach and partnership building
- Website development
- Grant writing
- Policy analysis/research
- Nonprofit financial strategy
Most roles are flexible-hour and results-based. We understand people are busy, so we’re not micromanaging volunteers or expecting corporate-style schedules. We’re mainly looking for passionate people who care about sustainability and want to contribute where they can.
Volunteer hours can also be provided for students.
Examples of projects and goals:
- Expanding rainwater harvesting awareness
- Supporting sustainable water policy
- Building educational media campaigns
- Organizing partnerships and outreach
- Supporting implementation projects
- Advocating for better water resilience and conservation practices
