Considering ICU

Hi all, I have been in med/surg for 10 years as an RN and I've been working at OHSU on an acute care surg floor for 3 yrs. I'd like to try and make the transition to something new. The problem is it's very hard for me to work night shift for lots of reasons. Does anyone have a recommendation on which ICU in OHSU is good to work on or what they are like? Do you think any of the ICUs would ever hire onto day shift with the transition to practice program? Or if I was hired onto nights, is there a quick turn around before getting onto day? I don't think I could work more than 6 months on nights. Thanks!

ONPRC is basically toast, where is AFSCME?

The West Campus and all the valuable research here is all but done for. Our union has completely abandoned us. All we've gotten is a token photo op of the President, Secretary, and a couple others at a board meeting, acting like they cared- conveniently right before the election. We have over 140 members here who are going to lose our jobs we love. That we do in terrible conditions for no money. Why do we pay dues to this union that uses us and then deserts us?

Getting into OR or periop area as RN

Current OHSU RN here. Anyone know if it might ever be possible to get into the OR or a periop area without prior periop experience? All the periop jobs available require prior experience. Wondering if anyone knows if someday or in the past it was possible to land a periop job at OHSU without that experience. I'd love to "transition to practice" into a new setting to get a change from floor nursing which I have done for many years but I'm not sure how to get there.

Almost Immediately Denied

Hi all! I am an RN with Providence on a cardiac telemetry unit with just over 1 year of experience. I recently applied to a position for “Experienced Non-Emergency” position in the ED. I got denied essentially the same day I applied and I’m just looking for some advice. Is there anyone I can contact to get feedback on why I might have been passed over? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hiring Process

I’ve been reading about the hiring process for this organization, but I still wanted to get some insight on my situation because the waiting has been stressful.

I had my first interview with the hiring committee in March, and then a second phone interview with the director about two weeks later. Both interviews went really well.

At the beginning of April, HR called me and said everything looked very positive, but the process could take a while. They mentioned it might not be finalized until the end of May and said they would keep me updated along the way.

Since then, I haven’t heard anything from them. I know they already warned me that the process could be slow, but the silence is making me anxious. Has anyone else experienced a timeline like this? Is it normal for the process to take this long even when things seem positive?
