STL wooden ocarina out of tune?

Hi. I’m completely new to this instrument but do have a musical background with the violin and a bit of piano. I bought an STL ocarina (C major 12 hole) a few weeks ago and noticed that when I compare the notes to my piano’s pitch, they sound out of tune.
Because I’m new to this instrument, I didn’t go with a super expensive option. (90 USD).
The lady that was selling them (at an anime convention) was playing one just like the one I bought and hers sounded beautiful .

Is it just a lack of technique, a problem with the instrument, or are C major ocarinas not tuned to concert pitch the way the violin and piano are?

Real ocarina in the new Zelda trailer? Yes or no?

Sounds real but it's so awash in reverb that I can't be sure. Either way, gosh it's gonna get busy here.

STL ocarina - The paint quality is terrible

I bought this beautiful and very expensive ocarina from STL Ocarina. I paid a fortune to import it to Brazil—almost as much as the price of the instrument itself just in taxes and import fees.

In less than a month, the paint started coming off. What was once a beautiful ocarina has become dull and worn-looking, and now the paint is literally peeling away. At this rate, I’m sure that in less than three months I’ll end up with a completely black ocarina.

The paint quality is extremely poor.

I sent STL Ocarina an email to complain about the issue, but I never received a response. It’s disappointing to see such a well-known and respected ocarina company produce an instrument with such poor finishing quality.

The sound is excellent. Musically speaking, the ocarina is nearly perfect. But the paint job? I am extremely disappointed. I paid a lot of money for this instrument and expected much better quality.

Honestly, it would have been better to buy a simpler model without such elaborate artwork and decoration if the finish wasn’t going to last. At least it would have been less expensive.

If STL doesn’t respond to me, I don’t think I’ll ever buy from them again. I’d rather purchase from local artisans or even import from China. I also own a plastic ocarina, and I know this kind of problem won’t happen with it. In fact, some plastic ocarinas sound surprisingly good.

Anyway, I’m very disappointed.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with STL Ocarina?

Maparam Ocarina - Need help identifying the type, and the value

Edit: No longer looking for offers, for historic sake, offer accepted for 2000usd.

Hi all, I am looking to sell my Maparam Ocarina I bought over a decade ago and barely used, and I'm not sure what type it is (AI goes between alto and soprano).

I intend to put it on eBay as I know they're worth a lot, so I want to make sure the description is accurate.

An idea on value would be brilliant too.

Left tip to right tail measures 14.5cm (AI mixes between Soprano/Alto again on measurements).

Songbird or Stl?

Hi!! I’m a beginner who picked up ocarina about a week ago, I bought my first from Amazon because I was just curious about it, but after some thinking I’ve decided to return that one and invest on an actual instrument able to play lol

My budget is around 90-100€ and I understand I can’t get anything too professional with that, but I’d like something that is at least in tune and has a good sound
After browsing this sudreddit and some YouTube videos I’ve got down to these two options:

Oot 12 holes Alto C from Songbird
114,95€
A bit out of budget but I’m willing to do it if it’s a big jump of quality compared to the Stl one

Or

12 holes tenor ocarina from STL
70€

I’ve heard good things both about Stl and Songbird and I don’t really know which one to go to

I’d prefer to go with 12 holes ceramic ocarinas, I don’t have any particular preferences about the key tho

Also yeah, if possible I would want to go with a Zelda design, while obviously maintaining a good quality
And if you have any other options that you think are better than both, I’m obviously open to the idea!

Thank you so much for your time!!

Edit: forgot to mention, I’m from Italy, so I guess shipping costs will also add to that

Minuetto from Pièces sans basse

I was looking for flute pieces to play on my double alto G and have found this really lovely minuet. It has lots of arpeggios and jumps across chambers, so it's quite challenging. I'm not yet satisfied with how I play it but I figured I'd share my progress.

The range is two octaves, so perfect for a double ocarina. I found the sheet music on flutenotes and transposed it for DAG: https://musescore.com/user/8597721/scores/34739966?share=copy_link (If you play with C fingerings my version will not work for you)

I think it's a really nice piece to practice chamber switching (I'm struggling quite a lot as you can see, haha)

Where can I buy a this complicated ocarina?

I'm looking for a bass multi-chamber in the c minor (not e flat major).

Is there a place which sells such an ocarina?

Advice on chamber switch please

Hey experienced ocarina players

I really need some help with chamber switching.

In easier songs like Zelda's Lullaby or Scarborough Fair, the chamber switch is easier for me.

But with songs like the Minstrel boy (song I am playing) where there's also lots of sharps/flats and faster switches, I struggle.

I think you can hear very obvious where I make the switch. It is somewhat shorter which I don't like.

Can you help me please?

Ocarina is the amazing Double Alto D from Pure Ocarinas.

Thanks.

Turning Meta Ray-Ban Display into an ocarina because why not

Made a little ocarina app for Meta Ray-Ban Display where you play notes with your hands.
First test had to be Saria’s Song, obviously.

Tiny, completely unnecessary — exactly the kind of AR toy I wanted to exist.

Fan-made, not affiliated with Nintendo/Zelda. Just having fun.

What song should I try next?

Duet?

Is there a place to find duets with ocarina and guitar? I have a 12 hole c bass ocarina and my wife has one of those guitars with strings on it. I feel like this ought to be a thing.

Wellerman (Sea Shanty) on the Triforce pendant ocarina By Ocarina Caro

Hello all,

Just wanted to share with all of you this awesome shanty performed by Ocarina Caro. It is the perfect short for you to listen to when you are enjoying a moment at the park. I really like it that is why I am sharing. I hope you all like it and enjoy it as well. Caro also plays the harp(?) as a backing instrument and I think it is just ... Mmm! :-*
