thoughts on doing my G spontaneously

okay so i’ve been under pressure to hurry up and get my G i’ve only been on the highway maybe 3 times never the 401 cuz ive been too scared people won’t let me merge and i’ll crash and go flying away but i realized that i need to stop being in my head and that it won’t happen however i tend to do better when i know i don’t have a lot of pressure on me i feel like maybe if i practice just a few more times i could be able to wing it and possibly pass by treating it like a side quest rather than something do or die which i know will stress me out and ill probably fail

Going for my full G soon

Hi folks!

Generally speaking, what's on a G road test? Is it like parallel parking, reversing and all that stuff like the G2 test? Or is it mostly just highway driving?

Thanks!

Failed G test 3 times don’t know what to do

Hello everyone, as my title suggests I’m feeling very discouraged and sad, as I’ve failed my G test 3 times at the Oakville location.

I passed the G2 on the first try but every time on the G test they keep penalizing me for minor things. Example: you need to turn your head more, you didn’t turn left fast enough, etc. While also saying “oh but everything else was great”

I only have one month before my license expires and there’s no availability in Oakville before then. Where should I try going? I found a spot for June 1 at Downsview — should I go for that? Any advice?

Thank you.

Failed my G test today and I honestly don’t understand these results 😭

Hey guys, I failed my full G test today and I’m feeling really discouraged.

I have a full license in my home country and a G1 here, but since I didn’t pass my G on the first try, I now need to get my G2 before attempting the G road test again.

The examiner gave me this results sheet and I honestly don’t fully understand all the X’s/check marks lol. I know I slowed down too much on the highway and maybe my movements/checks weren’t “obvious enough,” but how exaggerated do they actually expect head movements to be??

I feel like I was checking mirrors and blind spots, but apparently not enough.

Does anyone know how to properly read these results sheets?
And can anyone recommend a good driving school/instructor in North York (as close to Yorkdale as possible) for the G2 test specifically?

I’d really appreciate advice because right now I just feel terrible and confused 🥲

Passed G in Oakville -- sharing the route

Hi everyone,

I just passed my G in Oakville this morning and wanted to share the route for those wanting to practice. They took me on the highway twice and into a neighbourhood. I had Devin, he was great! Made small talk and was super relaxed. This page helped me prepare and calmed my nerves, so i want to extend the favour! If you have any questions, AMA!! Here is the route and tips below:

- turn right out of drivetest parking lot towards third line

- up third line, pass the highway, turn right onto abbeywood drive.

- right onto fieldstone circle, its a circle so just going around it

- turn left back onto abbeywood dr

- turn right onto third line

- merge onto highway hamilton bound from third line, .. merge left, get back right, exit at bronte

- turn left onto bronte, get left again into turn lane immediately

- turn left onto the bronte on ramp, toronto bound

- merge left, get back right, exit third line

- hang right onto third line

- turn right onto wycroft again, return to drivetest

tips:

- the neighbourhood they took me into has a unusally wide bike lane, when you turn off fieldstone circle, make sure you keep to the left of the lane, not the giant bike lane on the right

- theres a ton of construction on bronte road, it changes by the day, be prepared for it and maybe practice before your test so you know what to expect

Good luck! it isn't as scary as it seems!!

very beginning of test

just wondering if at the beginning of the test they make you locate and use certain parts of the car?

like obviously theyll ask about the breaks and signals (left and right) but do they also ask things like using the windshield wipers?

if yes then what exactly do i need to know?

(brampton location)

Do you guys have tips for parking? Both forward and reverse

I'm watching videos and I know how to theoretically do it. But when I'm doing it in person, it's like my mind goes blank and nothing goes right. It's so frustrating when videos make it look so easy but I'm still struggling

I was wondering if you guys had any tips or easy ways to remember how to do both!!! Thank you 😭💕

My specific issue is knowing what point to get to before attempting to turn the car. Also how much to turn the wheel and when. And lastly, how I know I went in far enough (without hitting the curb)

How many lessons would I need for G2?

I (19M) have a valid uae driver’s license which I got last year on November 17th. I only had around 2 months of driving experience but the system there forces u to take 50 in car lessons and go to a drivers school and pass the ministry exams. I feel I’m a confident driver, Infact I learnt how to drive a manual in uae. I’m giving my g2 next month and was wondering how many lessons I’d need typically. I
Know it’s subjective per person but even an idea would help me. And besides that any other tips would be greatly appreciate

Passed G test (Oakville) AMA

Did my G2 test in Oakville as well. Passed my G test first try 1 year later. Went pretty good took it at 11:30 AM on a Tuesday wasn’t too bad. Did residential, highway one way, highway back took 15 minutes. Wasn’t too bad. Happy to take any questions if it’s helpful to anyone. Generally Oakville seems fairly easy.

For reference I drive on the highway pretty often with my G2 because I live in Oakville so that helps with reducing anxiety but I don’t know what it is all these road tests get my heart rate UP but I’m confident just nervous because it can get nerve wracking thing to make sure you did everything. But if you have experience and good habits should be good.

How much Highway Driving Experience Should you have before attempting the G Road test?

On the official MTO handbook online, it says I must fill out a Declaration of Highway Driving Experience form to ensure I have enough driving experience.

I need to indicate how many times within the past 3 months I've been on the highway and the average length of these trips (in km)

Does anyone have any rough estimates on how many times I should aim for? And how long each time I drive on the highway should be?

Thanks.

Should I check mirrors more? Right now I feel I mainly do shoulder checks.

Hi all, my test is in a few days and I've noticed that I'm relying much more on turning my head to look around than I am on checking my mirrors.

During/before turns I don't feel the need to use my mirrors much. I'm mainly focused on checking car traffic for an opening, and shoulder checking left/right for pedestrians and cyclists right before I make the turn, because as I understand those are the main concerns?

Same thing in the parking lot, I go very slow and my head is basically on a swivel, constantly doing shoulder checks left and right, and turning around to look through the rear window when reversing.

The main times I really check my mirrors are for lane changes and pulling out from the roadside, and rearview mirror when I slow down.

Are there any other situations where I should be using my mirrors more?

Do examiners expect you to look directly at mirrors, or would they presume that I'm glancing at mirrors as I turn my head for shoulder checks?

Thanks.

Right turn on red

Can I turn right on a red even (if there’s no sign prohibits it) even if the oncoming traffic has an advanced green?

The video I attached confused me because I always thought it was legal and okay to do, but the dude in the video says it’s the law not to?

On a test is it better if I wait or can I still go if I feel safe to go?

If you’re going to use a Tesla for your road test!! Or any car with regen. breaking

I took my G road test the other day, and I used my Tesla Model 3. My examiner said I did everything correctly. However, I didn’t pass for one reason: rolling stops.

The thing is, I know I stopped properly because I made a point to. I even counted in my head. Every. Time.

I think the examiner did not understand the concept of regenerative breaking. He likely noticed that I wasn’t moving my feet from accelerator to the brake, and he didn’t “feel” the car braking, so he assumed I just wasn’t braking.

This is a warning to turn off regenerative braking!! Or, at least, make a point to press on the brake every time you come to a stop.

Car light G2 concern

Hey all!! So I want to bring my mom's toyota yaris (2007 i believe) to my G2 testing. However, the airbag light is on. Theres definitely something wrong with something under the seat, because when I'm driving and someones sitting in the passenger seat it says they don't have their seatbelt on, when they do. My question is, do you all think that I'm going to be rejected on the spot if my airbag light is on? The car is 100% still driveable, my mother uses it sometimes, otherwise we use our primary car. I just wanted to know in advance, so l dont get rejected the day of. I'll insert a pic down below. Thanks!!!
**Just to specify, the exclamation mark at the bottom (!) is just my handbrake. That goes away when I drive!!!!!**

Will the examiner refuse my car for this small Crack.

UPDATE: Went today to a mechanic and we got quoted 250 which is perfect and I will be going to get it done Thursday morning.

Is this the correct way of parallel parking?

1.) Leave about 3 feet of space between your car and the parked car.

2.) Reverse slowly until you can see the parked car’s tail light in the small rear passenger-side triangle window.

3.) Turn the steering wheel one turn toward the side you are parking on (left or right).

3.) Keep reversing until the parked car’s logo or license plate appears in the center of the front passenger window.

4.)Then turn the steering wheel fully in the opposite direction (left or right) to straighten the car into the parking spot.
