OZLO2 on a flight

So I’m am still so impressed with the new version. I bought three sets on kickstarter on the V1’s and had some of the struggles most have had. For me the company always went above and beyond to take care of issues and kept doing upgrades to make things better. For the most part my version 1’s performed as advertised. Now that i have a set of the two’s I am so much more impressed. I just flew with them and got stuck in ORD overnight and used them all night to block out the terrible noise pollution. Then on the trans-Atlantic flight they were life savers blocking out all the noise and 8.5 hours later still had 43% battery left. The volume adjustments and sound quality are 500% better then gen1. Only thing would be nice to have built in Apple find my tech for tracking them if needed.

I really regret my purchase back in May...

I purchased the original Sleepbuds back in May and I regret it. The biggest problem is that I don't find them comfortable enough, particularly in my right ear (oddly the left side is fine). Sleeping all night with them is impossible for me, so they're only really useful for shorter naps and I rarely use them. Unfortunately it's too late for me to return them.

Now I've just learned there's a new version available and I regret my purchase even more. I can't afford to pay again for the new one to try them, especially so quickly after buying the first one. I'm curious because they're supposedly more comfortable, and I wonder if they would solve my problem, but I have no way of knowing and I don't have the cash to find out anyway.

Does Ozlo have any kind of program to help people like me? At this point I'm considering cutting my losses and throwing what I have on eBay just to get rid of them and get me to stop thinking I wasted my money every time I look at them on my nightstand, though I imagine they won't be worth much now that the new version is out.

Lower volume on L ear bud

Hi all,

Has anyone had any issues with the Ozlo 1 sleep buds suddenly having one ear bud operating with lower volume than the other? I’ve tried all the troubleshooting suggestions including the masking tape trick and no fix.

I only bought them in March and I now can’t imagine sleeping without them but this issue is affecting my ability to block out background noise and making it hard to sleep.

Would love to hear if anyone else had a similar problem.

A Thank you for Great Service

I wanted to give a shout out to @Charlieozlo for the great job he is doing for members of this community. We spend a lot of time, albeit correctly sometimes, to complain when things don’t go right but not enough times to thank the wonderful Ozlo representatives, like Charlie, who have been helpful in getting my issues resolved. I started this journey with the Bose Sleepbuds before becoming an Ozlo user. I have had multiple issues with my Ozlo V1, including recently and Charlie has stepped in to resolve them, including getting replacement buds. I have just received and started using my new V2 and it is such an improvement over the V1. My V1 was returned today with a new bud so I now have a back up. Thank you Charlie and thank you the Ozlo team!

Ozlo 2 battery not charging fully

I just got my Ozlo 2s over the weekend and they're a huge upgrade over the 1s in terms of usability, connectivity, and battery life.

But the battery doesn't seem to charge past 97%, even if I leave them on the charger all day. Is this just a "breaking in" thing? Do I need to let them run down to zero a few times? Anyone else experiencing this?

Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 review, two weeks in

TL;DR: Better fit, auto play switching between sleep sounds and video audio is clutch, battery lasts way longer (42% vs 4-6% left in the morning), and sound quality is noticeably improved. None of it’s revolutionary on its own, but it adds up. Worth the upgrade, especially with the $50 Gen 1 discount.

Upgraded from the Gen 1s and wanted to share some real world impressions.

Fit - Much snugger in the ear. My Ozlo 1s would fall out sometimes, these stay put.

Auto play - This is the standout feature for me. Pop them in and my sleep sound starts immediately. Switch over to watch a video and it automatically switches to audio playback. Ozlo 1 never did this, I had to manually dig into the app every time to change settings.

Battery - Big improvement. I’m waking up with around 42% left. Gen 1 would be down to 4-6% by morning.

Sound quality - Noticeably better. You can tell the upgrade here.

Minor stuff - Like the darker case color, though that’s not a big deal either way. I don’t use the alarm feature but if I did, the physical snooze button on the case would be a nice touch.

Bottom line - None of these are individually game changing, they’re incremental. But add them all up and it was enough to justify the upgrade for me, especially with the $50 discount for Gen 1 owners.

Getting discount code: gen 1 owner

So I have a pair of the gen 1 ozlo buds and I saw the ad for getting a discount on the gen 2. I think in my sleepy state I must have put my email but I don't see the email and now if I click on the discount link from the app it brings me to the same page and just says the code is valid untill Aug 31st. Is there any way to recover that code? I never used it.

Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 Fixed My Biggest Complaint with Gen 1

I've seen some Gen 1 owners asking if the Gen 2 Sleepbuds are worth it, so I just wanted to chime in. I bought the Gen 1 Sleepbuds during the Kickstarter and have been using them for a couple of years now, mostly without issues. I know this is a different experience than some Gen 1 owners who ran into lots of problems, but my experience has generally been smooth and I credit the Sleepbuds for improving my sleep significantly.

The Gen 2s fix my two biggest gripes with the Gen 1 model: I never have to worry whether the buds are actually charging because they snap into place correctly every single time without fail. With the Gen 1s, if I had a hectic morning I would often forget to make sure they were properly aligned on the charging pins and when it came time to go to sleep, I would realize that one or both buds hadn't charged all day. This would then result in worse sleep.

Honestly, I don't care about any other new feature on the Gen 2s — the improved sound quality is noticeable, but I don't listen to anything other than sleep sounds so this really doesn't matter much to me. The battery always lasted long enough for me on the Gen 1s, and I don't really care about sleep insights.

Is it worth the upgrade price to the Gen 2 for this one feature? For me, absolutely. I sold my Gen 1s, so this winds up being about an $80 upgrade to the Gen 2s for me. Just having peace of mind that these things will actually be charged when I need them is huge. I definitely wish the devs had figured this out with the first model, but I'm happy they got it worked out for the new ones.

An issue with the new sleepbuds/app I’m having

There’s a really annoying new issue that I’m experiencing.

If the sleep shield is off, every single time there’s a text message I send or receive (and often just switching between apps) the audio cuts out entirely. It’s very jarring and not convenient. Is this normal?

If the sleep shield is on, it won’t cut out but I literally can’t play anything, no youtube videos or music etc.

I really think Ozlo have overcorrected here in both directions, there really needs to be an in between where I can still play content over bluetooth with the sleep shield on, or when the shield is off to not completely cut out everytime I receive a message.

To be honest the button on the new case is supposed to make it more easy to control the sleepbuds without opening the app, but because of the above issue I have to open the app constantly to turn off sleep shield every time I want to play something over bluetooth.

Has anyone actually received their 2's yet?

They made a big deal about these being ready to ship when they announced them, and I ordered same day, but they haven't been delivered... Says "delivery date set" on 7/28 for the 30th, but nothing since then.

Possible to play Ozlo sleep sounds in background while streaming videos?

This is something I’d really love if you can’t do it yet.

On my iPhone using Ozlo’s, I can play youtube videos and also use the inbuilt iPhone background sounds at the same time. I like this as it help get me relaxed and tired, even as I’m watching youtube.

I’d much prefer to use the Ozlo sleepsounds alongside a youtube video as they’re much better, this would be a great feature if it was possible to do!

Upgrade to Gen 2?

Have Gen 1 buds. Use masking sound only (deep brown). Never use Bluetooth. They are a warranty replacement pair about 6 months old. Any real benefit to upgrade? Thanks

I just got Gen 2 and they’re great!

I really debated whether I needed them or not since my gen 1 was still going strong, but decided to try anyway. I think they’re worth it! The sound is a lot better. I’m able to play them on 35% volume and they’re still even louder than my gen 1. When I woke up, they still had 55% battery compared to my gen 1 being on less than 10%.

Also, I LOVE the new sleep sound “monsoon season.” It actually sounds like rain instead of the static that a lot of rain sounds make. I fall asleep so easily with it!

I feel like there’s a ton of negativity on this sub so I just wanted to share something positive. I’ve had Ozlo sleepbuds for over a year now and they’ve never given me an issue and have helped my sleep so much. I’m really thankful for this product!

Ozlo Sleepbuds 2 - Keeping me awake?

I recently purchased the Ozlo Sleepbuds 2, which came with, among other things, a sleep mask. As a bit of background, I've never used a product like this before. I've just done sleeping the old-fashioned way: lay down on the bed and pray for sleep. There's a small fan by my bedside that was essentially my white noise.

Anyway, I was surprised and pleased that the default inserts fit my ear, so one night I put the Sleepbuds in with default white noise, which was a little loud, so I turned it down a bit. I put on the face mask, adjusting it as indicated in the documentation, and settled in for what I hoped would be a comfortable night's sleep.

A sleepless hour later, I pulled off the face mask, put the Sleepbuds back in their container and crawled back into bed. I was asleep almost immediately.

Just to add a little more detail, the reason for this change is that although I've been sleeping recently well, one of my neighbors has suddenly decided to start having loud conversations outside my bedroom window between 12-3 AM on weekdays when I'm trying to sleep before getting up for work around 5 AM.

I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong. Does anyone have any fine-tuning advice? Maybe I should try different sleep sounds? Or, could it just take some time to adjust to this change in my usual sleep pattern? I've only done this once, so maybe give it another shot with current settings?

Help!

Support ticket stalled: Right sleepbud severe connection range issue

Hey everyone,

Hoping someone from the Ozlo team (u/CharlieOzlo / u/naro_ozlo) can help pull up a stuck support ticket for me.

I've been dealing with a hardware issue where my right sleepbud has an extremely short Bluetooth connection range—dropping out if the case is more than half an arm's length away, which forces me to sleep with the case under my pillow. Meanwhile, the left bud works completely fine.

I've already jumped through all the standard troubleshooting hoops with support:

  • Performed isolation testing at home and at a completely different location (a beach house) to rule out local interference.
  • Completed a full factory reset on the sleepbuds.
  • Sent in the requested photo of the buds properly seated in the charging case with the lid open (reply sent Aug 9).

I followed up a few days ago, but haven't heard back since 5 days ago now. Could someone please take a look at ticket thread::J7QHdEvUC3WHvQoCtCtCvzI::

Thanks!

Gen 1 trade in offer

Is there any update on the trade in offer for gen 1 owners or kickstarters? As a kickstarter and I'm already on 2nd pair of gen 1 I feel pretty disappointed. 2nd pair is also having issues which makes me think I'm forced to buy gen 2, 3rd pair in 2 years.

The gen 2 is what I feel like kickstarters should have gotten in the first place.

Soundcore Sleep A30 Special compared to Ozlo Sleepbuds v1

First impressions of Soundcore Sleep A30 Special after the first 24 hours of use. I've previously been using the Ozlo Sleepbuds v1 on and off since the beginning of this year.

tl;dr the hardware is pretty solid, but the software is buggy and often doesn't work as you'd expect. Comparing these to my Ozlos, I like the hardware a bit better, but the software quite a bit less.

Good things vs Ozlo:

  • The case is more compact and the buds are easier to seat properly. It's much more plasticky though, and based on other reviews I've seen, less likely to survive a drop. Definitely prefer the smaller size, though.
  • The fit is comparable, with the A30s feeling a bit more bulky, but not enough to make side sleeping significantly more unpleasant. I use the default tips with both, and notice a bit less irritation with the A30 tips. The A30 tips also smell much nicer than the Ozlos (those arrived brand new with a rather unpleasant odour that has not improved).
  • The frequency response is notably better on the A30s, with a much fuller sound on the low end. The Ozlos are weirdly tinny and thin sounding, with essentially no bass, sounding almost like they're broken when listening in bluetooth mode.
  • The track download speed is significantly faster than the Ozlos--less than a minute vs several minutes. The tradeoff is it can only store one track locally, so switching takes a lot longer compared to the Ozlo, which can store ten tracks locally. I tend not to switch too often, so this tradeoff works for me.
  • The ability to mix your own white noise track is pretty cool, which makes up for the fact that there are only 14 pretty average snore masking sounds (only 2 of which have sufficient bass to properly cover snores and vehicle rumbles). Ozlo definitely has a better stock collection.
  • Battery life is good enough, with both easily lasting for a full eight hour night.

Unfortunately, this is where the good stuff ends.

Most nights, I simply want to be able to open the case, put the buds in my ear, and have my preferred sound play throughout the night. Unfortunately, there are a few key flaws with how the A30 Special does this:

  • The sound quality of local mode tracks, which are what play by default when you open the case, is much worse than the quality of the same tracks in bluetooth mode. The sound of "waves" in bluetooth mode is acceptable, but barely recognisable in local mode, sounding more like some weirdly garbled static.
  • I can clearly hear where the track loops, which is not true in bluetooth mode, and is quite distracting, especially when it includes a melody like the "piano" sound, but even with a simpler continuous "airplane" sound. The engineers have clearly taken some shortcuts and just cut the mix short wherever was convenient, instead of where it makes sense or sounds most seamless. I've never noticed the loop point with the Ozlos.
  • The loudness of tracks in local mode is about 1/3 of the same track in bluetooth mode at the same volume level setting. There is no way to change this. I need to set the volume level to 80-90% in local mode just to get sufficient masking in a quiet room vs 60-70% on the Ozlos. This also makes the default setting of starting in bluetooth mode and then switching to local mode after you fall asleep completely unusable.
  • Downloading white noise mixes has randomly completely stopped working until I reset the app data on two separate occasions.

Finally, the ANC is very weak. I can barely hear any difference, especially compared to all of my other earbuds with ANC.

I paid almost half the price for the A30s as I did for the Ozlos (both were on special when I purchased them), so these might be acceptable issues at this price point. I'll add further impressions if things change as I continue to use the A30s. Both the A30s and Ozlos are ultimately usable, but flawed products.

Since most of my issues with the A30 involve the software, I hope they'll finally fix them to remain competitive with the newly released Ozlo Sleepbuds v2. Sadly, I suspect they'll instead choose to save these improvements for a "Sleep A40" or "Sleep A30 Ultra", which would be most disappointing, but completely unsurprising.
