'Nobody's applying': How immigration cuts are leaving some P.E.I. businesses short-staffed this summer | CBC News

The federal government's immigration cuts two years ago were aimed at slowing population growth and easing pressures on health care and housing — but some P.E.I. businesses are now saying it's having a negative impact on their staffing.

Staff in the kitchen at Rodd Crowbush Resort on the Island's North Shore are finding themselves working six days a week, and longer shifts. The kitchen is short three cooks, and finding enough staff hasn't been easy.

Affordable gyms in Charlottetown

Hi, I just graduated from Holland College so my gym pass there isn't free anymore. Goodlife is way too expensive for me.

I was wondering whats the most affordable gym membership in Charlottetown? I workout using mostly free weights so it doesn't have to be a spot with a lot of equipment. Preferably I would like a gym with less people. If anyone knows a good location please let me know!

Engineer recommendation for cabin foundation

I'm building a small seasonal cabin on posts, and the building department says I need an engineer stamped plan because the loft counts as a second storey. Anyone have a recommendation for an engineer that could do this for me?

Explore Fiber Outage

It’s not just you. After cycling the router/modem a few times I finally called. Recorded message says a line was cut, and names a bunch of affected areas across the Island.

PC MLA stealing Green Party flyers while doorknocking - FIXED

Just got sent this video of PC MLA Brendan Curran doorknocking for the PC candidate in the district 16 byelection. He and another PC take the Green candidate's flyer and Brendan puts it in his pocket but then once he realizes they are being recorded he puts it back and they leave. Really awful behaviour from anyone but super disappointing to see these kind of shady political antics from a sitting MLA.

Original post is here but the video wasn't playing properly

Non-Partisan Independent Canadian Public Opinion Survey

I'm running a non-partisan public opinion survey on federal, provincial, and municipal politics, and more, in Canada.

It covers issues, priorities, vote intention, perceptions, and more!

The survey is fully anonymous and takes about 5 minutes.

If you'd be kind enough to take the time and participate, this is the link: https://forms.gle/dEWP2PmwScne4ibQ9

What to do Sober

Hello everyone, I'm a man in his early 40s who is 2 years sober and lives in the Charlottetown area. I've been kind of lonely lately as I am single/no children and my friends have moved on.

I'm trying to get out there but everything seems to revolve around alcohol. I go to the gym but due to work I kind of end up going at off peak hours and don't want to interrupt people's workouts. I like riding rails to trails on my bike but that isn't exactly social. Obviously I can't hang out in bars anymore and cafes/coffee shops seem to close pretty early. I don't like board games much, I've seen that as an option.

I do have hobbies, I like cooking/grilling, I grow a garden, home improvement projects, I have an old street and trail motorcycle I ride, I have a sports car I tinker with, I read and like art.

What do sober people do to meet other people? It doesn't bother me if the people I'm meeting enjoy a drink now and again, socializing just can't be centered around it.

In love with this island

Hi folks, visiting PEI on vacation and have fallen in love with the place and the people. We're giving some serious thought to relocating here from Quebec. We're asking lots of questions to the locals we meet but I thought it might be a good idea to ask here. So locals, what's your most and least favourite thing about living on the island? And... How bad are the winters really? ( I'm used to -20 or colder and lots of snow) Thanks in advance for sharing..

Single mother to be? Insights on difficulties here?

As the title suggests I’m in a position I don’t want to be in. Life is hard already in this economy. Will I be in a hole I can’t dig out of as a single mom making 4000 a month? Do others make it work for less? Tips? Warnings? Anything? I’m scared.
My family is here but can not help financially or with child care due to work and distance.

Results of Political Survey

As promised, the results of the online survey from June 24th-28th.

First of all, thank you to those that took the time to participate in our survey.

Narrative Research had a poll from June 10th-17th with 147 results and 109 votes for political parties (26% were undecided). Of those decided, The Green Party received 54% of the vote, Liberal Party 26%, PC 18%, and NDP 3%.

We had 103 participants eligible for these results (votes from outside PEI were removed for this section of the results), with similar results to the Narrative Research study, The Green Party received 53.4% of the vote, Liberal Party 22.3%, PC 12.6%, NDP 10.7%, and Island Party 1.0%.

We also asked a follow up question, “If you were to vote in a Provincial Election today, which party would you WANT to vote for?”, this question ranked each of the parties.

I found it interesting the amount of people voting against their preferences. I personally believe it's either due to the candidate or strategic voting. Please note: In that graph, I did not bother placing the first place votes with the party they voted for.

Thank you all once again and hope to expand both online and in person for the next time we take a survey.
