In less than 24 hours my baby parrotlet warmed right up to me and already demands hand time

I just completely left him alone the first night, just sitting by the cage until I went to bed.

After work I spent a couple hours of sitting by the cage, then having the cage open, then resting my hand with millet in it on the side. Once I saw him finally get curious I fed him through the cage, then offered through the door to the cage.

He then flew onto my shoulder out of nowhere, just trying to explore the room.

Then when he went on top of the cage I was able to get him to start eating from my hand and rewarding him stepping on my hand.

Then scritches. Then I just filled my palm up with seeds and let him use it like a bowl.

All in all, just 5 hours of patience and listening to him. Letting him come to me instead and lots of bribes.

He is already really responsive to training. Just a couple repetitions and he is stepping up and will (sometimes, and only if there is a food bribe) fly to my hand when offered.

I'm in love.

Food

Peri just up and jumped into her food. No respect.
She did make a bunch of happy noises while she was chowing down tho.

Pickles gets to try out his outdoor play area for the first time today! (Not his full time cage, securely assembled and reinforced)

And before anyone gets on me about it, yes I’m going to cover the bare wood swings/perches in cotton clothesline or something else.

I got Pickles’ aviary set up outside. NOT HIS FULL TIME CAGE.

This is for him under supervision when I’m outside, and it’s also located right outside my home office door, and underneath 2 huge shags trees.

And it’s reinforced at every joint with 4 zip ties rated at 75 lbs each.

I would never do anything to put my bird at risk. And thanks to the people that actually had the wherewithal to ask for clarification rather than just throwing a downvote.

Can my buddy Pickles ever have bits of human snacks?

I want to start by saying that for the 2 months I've had him, he's never had human food of any kind.

His main diet is pellets, with seed available only as an "out of the cage" snack and even then only in limited quantities and mixed in with pellets, dry oatmeal, and cut-up bits of dried fruit. Sometimes he even gets mealworms.

But as I sit here munching on some Fritos and looking and Pickles, it got me thinking...would it ever be ok to break off a tiny, pellet-sized piece to give him as a very, very rare treat? Or is all salt an instant no?

I've learned about the main things no birds should have such as chocolate, onion, avocado and such. But I'd like to learn more from other owners' experience.

Pickles says thank you!

Do your little friends also "help" with your hobbies? Mars sure does.

He is surprisingly hard to detach from the crochet hook.

(Also, I don't love posting my face, but I couldn't film it otherwise)
