An extra "Western" combo

People, for years, have been questioning me as to why I don't utilize my US citizenship and live down south. I dunno, my parents came to Canada, I was born in the US and have always lived in Canada. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I then tell them I can also go East wards too!

3 generations of British passport

Me, my mum and my dads passports are all different iterations of the British passport, sadly my dads one in the left expires in 2 years so they’ll be less diverse then but still interesting to see that all of these are still legal documents

Concept Design for a Theoretical Scottish Passport (1/2)

I thought I would try to create a clean-slate* design of a passport for a theoretical independent Scottish state in the EU. This is part 1 of 2 because I couldn't fit all the visa page designs in this post.
*clean-slate in the sense that while these take inspiration from existing designs and prescriptions, there is no Scottish equivalent that could be drawn upon.

Notes on the design –

  1. I have assumed that Scotland would be in the EU by this point and that the EU has not changed the regulations regarding travel documents.
  2. I have assumed that the likely 3-letter code would be "SCT", as no other country has it as yet and it is not reserved – it was pointed out to me on an earlier post that "SCO" would make more sense given its prevalence and use, however, I have decided to stick with "SCT" as it is also the current sub-nation/sub-divisional code for Scotland in the UK, however I do concede that this is very much something to be debated.
  3. I have decided to include both Scottish Gaelic and Scots for the designs. In either case, the translations were done with the aid of Google translate and Claude ... so there are likely some errors. The word "Passport" appears twice purely because the word used in Scots and English would actually differ for certain documents (Convention TDs, Emergency Passport, etc.) whereas "European Union" and "Scotland" are common terms in both Scots and English and thus are not duplicated.
  4. Specifically with regards to Scots, there were numerous challenges involved as Scots orthography is a pain at the best of times. I have tried to match the style used in the Scots accompanying notes to the Scottish Languages Bill 2025 [now Act] as published by the Scottish Government on the Scottish Parliament's websiteIf you are a Scottish Gaelic or Scots (or Doric (if you consider that to be separate)) speaker, please let me know of any corrections that should be made.
  5. The "crown" has been included for two reasons – 1) the demise of the monarchy is something that might still be debated in an independent state; and 2) I think the Scottish crown (the actual, physical one) has enough significance (design and history wise) to continue being used even in a republic and there is some precedent to back this in Hungary, Georgia, and Russia, however, I will very much concede that the circumstances behind retaining their respective crowns are quite ... *unique* to say the least.
  6. The "regions" present on the visa pages are inspired by Alan Fauld's [aka ballotbox.scot] New Municipalism project. The coat of arms in each case are either the current arms, a revival of older arms, or my best guess at what the Lord Lyon would likely grant to a theoretical region.
  7. The images on the visa pages are adapted from ones found on Wikimedia Commons and have been altered using some online sketch effect tools – If you accuse me of falling prey to the "romantic" image of Scotland ... you are very much correct.
  8. The designs were made in Inkscape, except for the image of the nominal bearer which was generated using AI as I couldn't fathom using someone's actual face.

DISCLAIMERS:

  1. I am neither Scottish nor British and have no strong opinion on the matter of Scottish independence and neither should my opinion on it matter. I have always wanted to try out a clean(ish)-slate idea, and since I have been living in Scotland for a few years now, it was kinda natural to use this as my test-case.

Entry&exit stamps from BiH🇧🇦

As I know, in federation part latin script comes first, while in Srpska cyrillic comes first, but I don't know why in Ivanica cyrillic comes first.

Stamps on a souvenir passport

These are all the stamps I have so far on my souvenir passport. There was a new lego store in Almaty that had just opened up yesterday, and I was able to get a stamp on opening day. Also , the staff let me stamp it myself :D

Every single stamp on this passport has been stamped by myself so far :D
