For pescatarians: What makes fish different from other animals?

Genuine question from someone who's curious and trying to understand different lifestyles and beliefs.

For those who are pescatarian or who avoid eating most animals because you believe animals are living beings that deserve compassion, why is fish considered acceptable to eat? And how do eggs fit into those beliefs as well?

I'm not asking to judge anyone, I'm honestly trying to understand the reasoning and philosophy behind it. Is it because fish are viewed differently than other animals, because of health reasons, or something else entirely?

I'd love to hear your perspectives!

Why does farm raised seafood gross me out but wild caught doesn’t?

I get the ick with farm seafood it makes me feel bad for the fish and the fact that nature didn’t make the fish… we did. Is this normal?

Does fish give you everything you need?

Hola pescaphiles,

I'm currently exploring pescatarianism, I used to be vegan and stopped for health reasons, ate everything for a few years (mostly beef tbh) and am now exploring cutting out some animal products and trying to do less harm to more sentient beings. I was eating chicken until recently but seem to be settling on fish only as far as meat goes. I'm just wondering how you all get on and whether you've had you had any deficiencies crop up? I know fish tends to be lower in iron than red meat, has anyone struggled with anemia being pescatarian?

Im relatively new to Fishes, but is this good sourcing?

Pics 1-2 and 3-4 are wild caught organic options and Pic 5 is farmed however also organic. Is there any difference? Also how about toxin contents?

Reasonably priced frozen fish fillets at $2.97/lb

I’m a pescatarian and I always look for reasonably priced fish. Frozen Swai fillets are for $2.97/lb. Wow. A week ago, frozen tilapia fillets were that price. It raised by a dollar today.

Feeding my pescatarian partner

Hello!! My partner has been pescatarian for about a year for health reasons. We have been together for 8 years and before I would cook for him a lot.

I am a pretty picky eater, I have my meals I like and rotate. I would often branch out with new flavors with him, while keeping the protein something “safe” to me. That being said, I do not think I have *ever* eaten any fish. I know. I’m autistic and really struggle in the food realm.

Since he has been pescatarian, I have not cooked for him much besides a snack or dessert. I would love to present him a beautiful dinner that he will throughly enjoy.

I’m pretty scared of cooking fish though.

What’s an amazing dish that would be practical for a beginner with food aversion? I have cooked salmon and shrimp before. I feel like salmon is a bit too everyday. He is eating various different fish and always trying something new. He has no fear in the food department and wants to taste and try everything. Always picks a new meal, never repeats. I want to blow him away with a dish while still being in my realm of comfort. :)

Thanks in advance!

is cooking fish actually as simple as it is made to look?

whenever people talk about cooking fish, the conversation is usually around recipes and cooking time. but in my house… my mom spends way more time worrying about whether the fish is really fresh, cleaning it properly, removing all the unwanted bits and then dealing with cuts that are never properly done. sometimes even after all that effort, the taste turns out a little odd from what she expected because the fish wasn’t that fresh.
just wanna ask ppl who cook fish regularly at home… how much of the effort goes into cooking and how much goes into prepping?
