New paddle
What’s a good paddle to get if I like playing back row and sending fast balls over the net?
What’s a good paddle to get if I like playing back row and sending fast balls over the net?
So I bought a CRBN Genesis 4 paddle off of Ebay around $140. After I pulled the trigger, I started researching and realized only then how common counterfeit paddles have become. I received the paddle and after careful scrutiny, I decided it was fake.
Meanwhile, I bought the same paddle - TFG4 from CRBN directly. Comparing both now, they look DAMN similar. If the first one is fake, it's an amazing fake. I would assume it came from the same factory.
Though they are extremely close, here are the points that give me doubt as to it being "real".
This is the biggest clue: The serial number on the Ebay version shows up on other listings on other paddles. (25184 / TFG4
The QR code on the Ebay special open an active link.
The zipper on the Ebay cover is of slightly less quality than the CRBN.
I can't seem to find any detailed descriptors or photos of these paddles, but there are a LOT of them on Ebay. Many start at $50 bids, many are between $100-$180. The only explanation I have is that they are being made at the same factory. Of course, I have no idea what is inside the paddles, so the internals may differ. But the amount of external attention given to these fakes are amazing.
Does anyone have any other information on these fake CRBN paddles? I intend on calling them this week. I'll let you know what I learn.
If you could create a paddle out of the various components out there what would it be?
Mine would be.
Core: 11SIX24 Alpha Pro Power
Face: FCC - Hexgrit
Shape: Pkkl Vantage 16.3 x 7.7
Handle: Head TK82 4 1/8"
Weight 8.1oz + .25oz for the overgrip
Reason: Durablegrit and great spin with a core that isn't too powerful but can put enough pressure on counters. I like slightly wider shapes to help with the stability on off center hits. The TK82 grip is more of a rectangle which was originally for the eastern grip, it allows you to be at the kitchen and cover forehand and backhand without changing grips.
Roughly 8.3 - 8.4 is my sweet spot of weight before i notice hand speed issues.
Hey all,
I'm starting a data-backed paddle review channel! The goal was to utilize a shorter, easy-to-digest format while still presenting the most important bits of information.
To commemorate the start of my channel, I'll also be giving away an elongated Turbo MPP. Details in the video or description!
I think overgrips are quite underrated and that they matter as much as anything else does, like racket, shoes, etc. I/ve been doing some research, and it'd be super helpful if any of you could briefly answer the following questions.
What actually makes an overgrip feel premium to you?
How often do you actually change your overgrips? What’s your ideal overgrip lifespan?
What’s the biggest frustration with current overgrips?
Would you buy designer/graphic overgrips if performance stayed elite?
Do overgrips feel overpriced to you?
If you or your group mostly play a power game right now. Always driving / speeding up.
Then try this equipment change which slows down the game, gives more control, and increases the rally/variation.
First, it makes good counters a highly important part of the game. Without good counters there is no reason for you or your opponent to hit drops or dinks. Once players start noticing that their drives and fast balls are being countered back well, they will naturally have to start hitting drops and dinks. Without the power paddle launch getting in the way, you'll also find dinking easier and more enjoyable with a control paddle at first.
Next, a slower ball prolongs rallies and gives more opportunities for hands battles. You want to start slow and give yourself the chance to develop before moving to a faster-paced game.
Now this works much better if the whole play group uses the same equipment, but you can also just do it solo if it's open play.
Control paddle recommendation - 11SIX24 JellyBean $79, Vatic prism $99
Get your usual shape or hybrid
Slow Ball recommendations - Franklin X40 Core Impact ~3 for $10
Budget-conscious - Franklin paddle set $15 for two wood paddles and 2 x40 balls. Can work but the paddle is way heavier so some of your mechanics will change again when you switch back to your main paddle

B. LOCO Bread and Butter
C. Boomstik?

Just started taking lessons. Played tennis in high school (1988 grad). Looking for a recommendation for a reasonably priced paddle to start, but one I won't grow out of too quickly. Figuring I'm playing 1 time a week... sometimes 2. Been looking at Friday and Vatic at this point. Open to all insights.
