Should you play the same build over and over again if you are after replayability for non pvp mode?

For pvp not changing will put you at disadvantage but since it is not pvp I don't think it matters. Unlike there being games where different build is the only form of replayability and how refusing to do so is causing problem to yourself at least that is what the unhelpful and ignorant will call it even if untrue I am wondering if it is a must here to not keep repeating the same build or if there is such a plan for this to be viable in the future especially since some people idea of replayability is not different build

High Level Replays for Casting?

Hello!

I am really enjoying Zerospace and the high level matches that I've watched and it gave me that itch to try casting again for fun (I dabbled in it with SC2).

SC2 had multiple sites that I could go to and download high ranked ladder games to cast. I assume there isn't anything like that for Zerospace (yet) but I was curious if anyone had any resources that my google-ing couldn't find. I'd try my own games but I'm not nearly good enough for that to be entertaining.

Thank you!

I have some questions on this game

Hello! Tried zerospace recently and really enjoyed the pve galactic mode! I have a few questions so far regarding how the game is played.

How do I get more power ups on my arsenal to equip, is it strictly tied to my levels?

Are missions done on your factions area a lot easier than on other factions? I experienced this by spamming one mission on another factions planet and spent to days collecting losses for my faction D: when I finally switched, the game felt so easy.

How do you double infuse a unit? I only am able to infuse once.

What does tree of life do? I dont see and units spawning from it when my units die. Is there a window fir it to spawn? Does it run on energy?

What are some of the more fun match for galactic war? Metal march is pretty fun.

How is 2vs2?

Can you find a 2vs2 game? I've just watched a Xol showmatch on a 2vs2 map. I was positively suprprised that there are some interesting gimmicks like a crab you can defeat and capture. Not sure how to feel about the payload, it felt a bit weird.

Have you played it? How do you feel about it?

ZeroSpace Development

I have one question before I invest time or money into this game.

Is it funded to 1.0?

This is ultimately the reason Stormgate failed. They blew $40 million just to get to a rough launch of the game and thought they had a golden cash cow to regenerate it.

Zerospace having a low player count doesn’t mean too much as long as the game is eventually going to make it to 1.0. If they already blew all their money, it’s a waste of time.

Zerospace should offer multiple different RTS game modes for it's multiplayer.

The multiplayer for Zerospace is a smash hit for some, but for others it drives them away due to overcomplexity and readability.

Adding alternative RTS game modes to Zerospace would help attract new players, keep existing players invested in the game, grow the community, and justify consumer purchase investment.

Zerospace did a excellent job casting a wide net into the RTS community/genre, but it needs to firmly establish itself in the niches and subniches for the long term success and growth.

> 1) Traditional

  • No Mercenaries
  • No Towers
  • No Hero Units.

This is the core foundation of Zerospace, it should be able to stand on it's own without anything extra on top of it.

A pure authentic RTS gameplay experience, where all the Zerospace races can shine as they are.

> 2) Traditional Hero

  • No Mercenaries.
  • No Towers.

The core foundation of Zerospace, but with the Hero Units. It should be able to stand on it's own.

Another pure authentic RTS gameplay experience, where all the Zerospace races and the Hero Units can shine as they are.

> 3) Hero Units Only

  • No Mercenaries.
  • No Regular Units.

All Zerospace Hero Units vs All Zerospace Hero Units.

> 4) Mercenaries Only

  • No Hero Units.
  • No Regular Units.

All Zerospace Mercenaries vs All Zerospace Mercenaries.

what diversity do protectorate grell and legion have?

I see myself repeating the infantry+strider build and tried the air version but ironwing is mid or worse and it seems griffin is a must and or just mass titan not sure what else could work. Grell feels to me like lasher is too compulsory since anti air is absent and most of my power comes from elder womb or merc and the mid tier unit feels so pointless. Legion either you go tower or mass disciple or thrall steelsworn or terror tank dreadnought and mercs.

Do you think they might update Grell's visuals (like they did with Protectorate) before 1.0? Do you like the look of Grell so far?

I love what they did with the protectorate, the faction looks 10 times better after they revamped their looks. Xol looks amazing, Legion is also fine, but Grell... is boring.

I know it boils down to preferences, but my biggest issue is that most Grell units have this zerg-at-home feeling to them. Reaver = Ultra, Harbringer = Roach, Stinger = zergling, Vynthra = Hydra (I like her though), Boomer = Baneling.

My most disliked design is Weaver, just a spider. I like Mandragoras, the rest of units are kind of whatever (Behemoth has nice wings though). Keeper is unfinished I guess, so far it looks like a bigger Arkanid.

Overall, the look of Grell's samey dark-green units on the dark, cluttered grass gives me a headache (especially on the swampy map).

Buildings are okay I guess, I especially like the main one.

I don't know, do you like Grell?
I don't say they have to do it now, there are more burning issues, but I worry that when we get 1.0 it'll be too late for redesigns and we'll be stuck with a generic looking bug race with glowing bubbles, and to me it feels like there is a huge opportunity to lean more heavily into their symbiosis with plants and make something more unique.

Answers to the community’s most common questions, along with a few of our thoughts.

1. How stable is the studio in terms of funding, will you be able to reach 1.0?

Now that the dust has settled from the initial Early Access release, we're able to share that our sales have been strong enough to fund development costs through our 1.0 release.

Continued sales throughout Early Access will enable us to invest further into the game; growing the team, producing more content and features, and improving the game at a faster pace.

2. What are the plans for optimization and better performance?

We are always working to improve optimization, from the last demo to now we’ve optimized the game by about 2x on the CPU side, allowing for less thermal throttling and better performance when hosting games.

We know there’s room to go on the GPU side and that’s where we’re directing our focus now. Since releasing, we’ve identified a few particularly resource intensive particles and VFX and fixed them. Your reports here are especially helpful as oftentimes the gains to be found here are related to specific units, abilities, or areas of a map.

Our goal is for a 1080TI to be able to achieve a stable 45 frames per second on any map with any units.

3. Are there plans for updated UI, both in-game (in-match) and out of game (menus/lobbies)?

Yes there are plans for an in-game UI redesign and Icon update, with an emphasis on UX and visual cohesion, as well as on-going improvements to the menu and replay UI.

4. What is the planned update cadence?

We’re aiming for weekly changes with bug fixes and minor balance tweaks for the moment. When it comes to content such as missions, commanders, factions, and heroes, we’re planning to do larger content drops instead of trickling them in, we’re figuring out the exact pacing we want, but as of right now we’re thinking around monthly for large updates. For next month, we’re planning for a new Galactic War season, more units, additional campaign and co-op content, and more. We’ll share more about our long term content plan soon.

5. Will there be a focus on bug fixes and polishing the already released content?

This is a big priority of ours, we understand the loss of immersion and the frustration that can come from bugs. We’ll continue the polishing and bug-fixing all the way to 1.0 and beyond.

In addition to letting us know about the bugs you are running into, please also let us know your hardware as some of them are config dependent.

Shortly before launch we found some issues that only affect certain AMD GPUs. Because of all the possible combinations of hardware, these issues can sometimes be difficult to detect on our own, so sharing your config helps a lot here.

Some closing thoughts from the team

The first day of Early Access, our Steam review score dipped as low as 66% with half of the negative reviews mentioning UI. After quickly releasing updates and fixes addressing some of the most pressing concerns at the time, and, as players who got past that first layer of friction got to experience the core gameplay, reviews began to turn around bringing us to 77% positive (86% over the last week) at the time of this message.

We have some stat tracking on the back end, and we’re continuing to monitor what modes, factions, maps, and more that people are enjoying, and what we should look at spicing up. Something in our stats that we feel good about is that our versus playerbase has remained very stable and our average number of ranked games  being played at once has actually climbed over the past 10 days.

What all of this tells us is that people enjoy the core gameplay loop of ZeroSpace, and appreciate the updates we’ve put out, and it’s very motivating for us.

There is still a lot of work ahead of us, and we will continue to adapt and prioritize based on your feedback as we steadily move the game toward the best version it can be. With over 350,000 wishlists, there is still a significant amount of interest in the game that has not yet translated into Early Access purchases. We see a meaningful opportunity to earn more of that support over time as we continue improving the game, addressing concerns, and building confidence through Early Access. We understand that many players will choose to wait until 1.0 before making a purchase, and we respect that. Our main ask to you would be to give us a wishlist so you can continue to see the updates and progress we make, and get notified upon our 1.0 release.

To those of you who have taken the leap during Early Access: thank you for your vote of confidence, your support, and your feedback during this crucial stage of development. It is helping us make the game better as we continue working toward the full release.

Thank you to everyone who read this far, shared feedback, told a friend about ZeroSpace, or even just wishlisted while staying on the sidelines. We’re excited that you’ve let us share what we’ve built over the years, and what we will continue to build.

My impressions from Early Access

Hi, Reddit! I’ve been really enjoying ZeroSpace and wanted to share my appreciation for the game and the team behind it. Hopefully, I can also convince some of you to give it a try.

I love watching StarCraft II and have played quite a bit of 1v1 myself. About a year ago, I was hovering around the border between Platinum 1 and Diamond 3.

And honestly, I think I enjoy ZeroSpace a little more, mostly because it feels easier to get to the fun parts of an RTS.

In SC2, if you’re in Gold League, there’s a good chance it’s because you can’t consistently execute your build order under pressure. And that can be *very* stressful. You can lose a game without really getting to experience much of what makes the game interesting.

ZeroSpace feels less stressful to me. Matches are generally shorter, build orders are easier to execute, and some early rushes feel less deadly. This might change as the game develops, but right now I really like that, at basically every level of the ladder, you spend a lot of time out on the map having small, interesting fights.

The mercenary factions also add a really interesting layer of depth. There are a some new decisions that simply don't exist in SC2, and I really enjoy figuring them out.

I also really enjoy playing against AI, which surprised me because it feels quite different from SC2. In SC2, playing against AI often feels like: if you have more units, you win. In ZeroSpace, there’s much more of an adventure in figuring out where the enemy army is, what their harvesters are doing, etc. It actually feels like useful practice against something resembling a real opponent.

And, of course, the units themselves are great. They feel distinct, and a lot of them are just fun to use.

So overall, I’m really enjoying both PvP and PvE.

I also had some fun playing coop galaxy war with my friend who's not an RTS enjoyer. He likes it a lot! I also adretised a game to him :)

That said, here are a few things I’d personally like to see improved in PvP:

Early aggression vs. fast expansion

I don't feel there’s enough of a difference between going for early aggression and going for a fast second base. For example, if I build 3 Barracks first while my opponent expands and then goes into 4 Barracks, I feel like there’s only a very small window where my army is significantly stronger. I’d love for that timing to be a little more pronounced.

She Who Stalks

She Who Stalks feels way too powerful to me right now. It’s honestly pretty miserable to play against.

More open maps

I’d love to see some maps where the bases are more open and easier to reach with runbys. I think this could create some really interesting opportunities for harassment and make map control even more important.

Grell's Stinger

Grell’s Stinger feels very slow and weak to me at the moment. I think it could use some tuning.

Anyway, these are just my impressions as someone coming from SC2. I’m really happy with ZeroSpace so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the game goes.

P.S. I asked chatgpt to edit this text a bit, so it feels less like a hart letter monolith and more like an easy read. (english is not my native language, too).

Request to make mmr hidden during ladder matchmaking screen.

Gives me so much anxiety when I see someone much higher mmr than me and already feel defeated. Think would be a good addition to hide mmr but still gain and lose it to just focus on playing.

Zerospace Winning Iron Shield on Brutal AFTER the Portal Opens

This was so much harder than I expected...

Ever since playing the Iron Shield Galactic Conquest map I always wanted to beat it *after* a portal had opened. I figured with the infinite scaling nature of the Legion Idal Conduit upgrade, I might be able to do it. So I loaded it up on Brutal difficulty and gave it a shot. I figured I'd record the "last couple minutes" after the portal opened and I pushed past the wave of enemies. Turns out it was going to be a little more difficult than that... It took me well over an hour of battling the hordes but I finally managed to do it.

I'm mostly shocked at how much of a balance there was, I could fight back enough to keep them from pushing out into the map, but I could also barely make progress pushing them back to the portal. For some reason it stopped letting me spawn units at all and I had to rely on just the obelisks, but eventually I managed to push all the way to the portal over a very long fought battle.

The video is probably not worth watching, it's an hour of me spawning obelisks, but if anyone is curious enough to skim through it, here is the proof.

How does the low player base effect galactic map?

As the title says. I’ve played rts’s for years, namely StarCraft, which u played growing up, and have always sucked at them. So I pretty exclusively play pve, but I like more than campaigns. The galactic map in this game seems super interesting and would be the reason I pull the trigger on it. But the game also has like no one playing it, so how does that effect that specific game mode? And if the game died next week and the servers went down or whatever would galactic map still be a playable mode?
Thanks in advance.
