I love my wedding dress so much

I picked up my dress today and I am SO happy about this dress. I love this dress so damn much. Alterations in the bust and hem are coming soon!

If you're just starting your dress journey and you're feeling anxiety about your dress, I hope you take your time to find something that speaks to you and makes you feel like a bajillion bucks. ✨

I graduated 🥳🥳

Reminder that beauty comes in many many many forms. I was so insecure about many things and it came out beautifully.

My dress is Ember from Anthropologie.

My advice if you’re still planning:

  1. Get off wedding Instagram. Only follow plus size body positive influencers.
  2. Listen to your intuition about what YOU want. Absolutely everyone should NOT like your aesthetic/decisions and that’s how it should be!
  3. Take what Redditors and other people online say with a grain of salt 😉
  4. Maybe controversial, but go with the easier plan whenever possible. I felt like the aesthetic I wanted was a little ambitious for the city I was in and it wasn’t quite what I wanted. I wish I would have chosen something “safer” with fewer colors.
  5. People are going to wear what they want to wear.
  6. Before choosing your dress, SIT in it for an extended amount of time. Take a LOT of photos and videos in it.
  7. It will go by INCREDIBLY fast.
  8. Consider a lower fuss wedding if at all possible— micro, backyard, etc. You will realize it was all about the fun, not the aesthetics.
  9. If you’re planning the wedding, have your partner plan the honeymoon. This worked out AMAZING for us.

Photographer was Hannah Wermich.

Happy to answer any questions/give any advice!

You are worth whatever wedding you want to have!

I struggled planning our wedding feeling like an imposter because so much wedding inspiration featured slim, young brides and I am neither. I often felt like I was in space that wasn’t meant for me, and actually questioned if older, plus size women were even allowed to have something more than a simple, low-key wedding (which I recognize sounds crazy, but there is so very little representation!) In the end, I’m so glad we did it! I’m sharing all my looks, and just some photos from our day to hopefully allow other women like me to give themselves permission to have their dream wedding, regardless of size or age.

Wedding dress - Jenny Yoo Ezra
I wore the sleeves for the ceremony and took them off and added some statement earrings for our first dance and dinner

Reception dress - Helsie Vivi dress
Got the XL and while it didn’t zip, I was obsessed with the sparkle, so I had it altered into a corset back

Getting ready - Lace nap dress from Hill House

Welcome party - BHLDN

I also cannot express enough how valuable it is to choose a photographer who knows how to pose larger people! Ask potential photographers to see a gallery that is reflective of you and your fiance to see how they adapt posing based on body type.

Boudoir shoot -lingerie

Booked a boudoir shoot , they recommend I bring four outfits . I’m a xl- 1x and got a bit of a fupa but otherwise a hourglass shape . I want to feel confident and sexy but want an outfit that hides the fupa. Any recommendations where to buy outfits ?

Need help deciding on what to do with the sleeves

I found my dress at a bridal consignment shop and will need some alterations done including hemming, taking in at the waist a tiny bit but I am so torn on what to do with these sleeves. I love the way they fall and hide my most insecure area but also wondering if I should make them tighter? They just kind of look sloppy to me. Last picture was made with ai to show me what it would look like with a more fitted sleeve (and longer hair 😂) but I would appreciate any suggestions!!

Gown was a 2024 Stella York from a store in Philadelphia that sells only samples!

Felt like a Princess!

Ordered this on Poshmark- $150, no alterations neededa. I’m a street size 16. 5’5 215. I am absolutely in love with how it made me feel. My perfect princess dress. This was my second marriage and we eloped and this dress is prettier and comfier than my first dress that cost thousands!! Don’t underestimate pre-owned!!

Here’s a link to the dress on June Bridals!

Graduated this weekend and Sneak Peek photos are in!

The wedding was this past weekend. Our ceremony and reception were at a local natural history museum. My dress is from Savvy Bridal in KC, and I added long wedding wings for the ceremony and short colorful sleeves for the reception.

FOUND THE ONE!!

I found THE dress last week and I’m so excited I just need to share it somewhere. The gauntlet sleeves will be higher up on my arms & I’m holding my yitties cause the dress was slightly too big and couldn’t be pinned tight enough 😭😂 I’m suuuper excited to see how beautiful she is once tailored to my proportions so it snatches me up better hahaha.. Another plus is that the dress (Morilee Poppy) was recently discontinued so they sold me their sample for $1400 instead of $1700! Also including the veil I ordered from an Etsy shop based in Ukraine! It’s currently on the way ❤️

The Dress

I had a lot of anxiety about finding my wedding dress. But I found it, nonetheless! I hope this can encourage other plus size brides to look for their wedding dress with confidence—we all look beautiful in white!

It arrived and fits beautifully with exception of the bust, which just needs an inch or two taken in. Size 22 US (typically street size 20). Planning to wear my hair down and have a cathedral length beaded veil to match the bodice!

Be honest

Edit Update: Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice, input, suggestions, kind words, and well wishes. I did not expect for so many people to see this or comment. I thought id get a few responses and then delete this post in shame.

I feel so seen and supported (just like the girls are, I promise lol. Alterations are in process haha). I dont have a strong network so ive been trying to deal with this alone and gosh im just so grateful for you wonderful kind souls. If I dont say thank you to your comment, its because I got busy with my goldens who require attention. Thank you and sending all the positive vibes back at you!

Original:

Please be honest, even if its brutal. I need input.

  1. Fantasy wedding theme. Warrior princess vibe. May even wear a sword on my hip - TBD. Veil is a cape/hood/shoulder armor combo and I love that sort of vibe.

  2. Dress was intl shipped, verrrry expensive, and wedding is in 4 months. There is no changing or returning. Was custom sized.

  3. There have been issues with quality. My seamstress is amazing and fixing the waist area. And I am working with the designer to make things right for the other quality issues.

  4. I ordered it a bit larger than I am which is the waist problem (extra fabric bunching up) because as I was ordering i had a pregnancy and miscarriage and bloated up 80 lbs in a very short amount of time. Pcos + pregnancy + miscarriage has been rough.

I see so many of you beautiful plus size women. Glowing and gorgeous.....and i just wanted to feel that way too. I dont feel special or beautiful....I feel I just look wide and bloated.

Girls, please be honest with me. How bad is this? I dont have people in my life to get feedback from. The few people I do have I know they will always say supportive stuff. Not sure if its body dismorphia as usual or if im justified in it not being a good look. If you agree I dont look great in it, any ideas on how to improve (outside of waist area which will be fixed).

Can I donate a dress here?

I had a dress made on Etsy and it’s BEAUTIFUL!! I bought a back up dress on Amazon that was even MORE beautiful (if you can believe it) and that’s the one I’m going with :) I would like to gift this dress I had made to someone who maybe doesn’t have a budget or a low budget. Would just ask that you pay for shipping. Will only ship within the US. Here is a link to the dress and the pics are what it looked like on me and the exact measurements of the dress, will also include the veil. It’s approx a size 14/16 but the back is a corset so it can be adjusted up or down. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1859789644/lace-goddess-wedding-dress-boho-winter?ref=share\_ios\_native\_control

Be honest... does this look bridal enough once it's steamed?

My dress from Shein finally showed up today and I had my mom take a quick photo before I completely talked myself out of it. It’s obviously super wrinkled straight out of the bag, and I know that's messing with my head, but the shape is actually way closer to the romantic vibe I wanted than I expected for the price.

I’m plus size and was trying so hard to find something soft and flowy without spending boutique money, but now that I’m seeing the blue in person, I’m panicking. If I get this professionally steamed, add a petticoat for volume, and maybe change the belt, can it pass as a real "yes" dress? Or does it just read too casual/prom? Don't hold back, I need the brutal truth lol.

Dress acquired!

Honestly the only dress I felt good in! It was comfortable and it felt like me. My very skinny almond mom was not super supportive but that’s par for the course. Trying to be happy about it!

What to expect? 🥹 Trying on dresses as a size 14/16

Do bridal shops tend to carry try-on dresses in certain sizes, like generally a 4 and 12? As a size 14/16 in non-bridal, I’m worried I won’t have many good options to try on. Am I overthinking this? Thank you!!

Narrowed down to top 2 - need to make a decision by Sunday

Previous post: bought a dress and I hate it so ordering a new one with rush fees last min for the wedding. I will be ordering from these 2 dresses. Adding lots of pics and different angels for opinions. Keep in mind these are sample dresses and weren’t in my size so portions are off (bust, torso) my hope with these dresses is to lengthen the torso a bit so keep that in mind! Appreciate all the support and help on the last post 🫶🏻 dress 1 pics 1-6 dress 2 pics 7-14

Bridesmaid or formal dresses

Hi! Looking for recommendations of websites to buy plus size formal or bridesmaid dresses? I’ve looked at many of the major ones, but didn’t know if there were any other possible options that people have had luck with. I’m open to any boutiques or smaller retailers that anyone may know of, as well! Sometimes it’s so hard to know which websites are legit, so I appreciate any guidance. Looking for a long black, super flowy, with short flutter, elbow length, or long sleeves. Thanks!!
