What can I expect for media inputs?

Hey Reddit,

Just purchased a 997 Turbo and forgot to check out the center console input options on the test drive... oh well! Still a beauty and won't change anything about how much I love or drive it.

Can anybody let me know what to expect from a stock 997.1 center console as far as inputs go? Are there any of the following:

  • 12v (cigarette lighter/car socket)
  • Aux (3.5mm audio jack)
  • USB-A
  • Bluetooth

Thanks! Can't wait to start driving it next week. A picture would be super helpful too if you have one.

New to me

Earlier this summer I had my eyes on manual gen 2 Macadamia Brown Carrera S in Belgium but the seller was slow with communication but after almost three years of searching I finally managed to track down my own grail car!

A black on black manual gen 2 Carrera S with 42,000 miles on the odometer, loaded with the right options and unbroken service history at Porsche Center it passed PPI almost with flying colours. 78KEUR…

Help me paint my center caps

You guys helped me a lot select the color for my 997.1 GT3 wheels.

Finally got the wheels painted but the center cap came without any lettering (picture 1).

Which design for the center cap looks best to you :

  1. as is, basically no lettering?
  2. OEM style?
  3. a version that is a bit inspired by 997.2 GT3 center locks contrast?

"Torn between keeping my Turbo S stock or going full GT2 hybrid"

I'm at a crossroads with my 2011 997.2 Turbo S. I still love driving it and get to enjoy it as a daily but its totally stock and I've started wanting to modify it tastefully, my question is: Could there be such a thing as a tastefully modified turbo S and if so, I'm happy to keep all of the OEM parts and swap it back to standard when I eventually sell it, as I know that modified cars aren't for everyone. I'm just desperate for something that looks and feels different, has curb appeal and turns some heads.

I've already pulled out air suspension and the squatted look and I'll also need to find a centre-lock wheel option since I sold a set of BBS wheels that I managed to find from a GT3 997 cup car but never had a chance to fit them as I had an offer that I couldn't refuse and I'm still kicking myself over.

My idea was to try and turn it into a GT2 style hybrid with a full GT2 kit paired with some made to order alloys with a slightly wider offset to fill the arches.

I know I'm going to get a lot of stick for this but what better way to find out if there are any better options out there...

Looking forward to hearing back.

Some of the images are when the condenser was broken and the windows were steaming up.

Hot take: None of the latest gen porsches look good.

Once porsche started blacking out the headlights and got rid of the projector module lights they lost their porsche look. Even the boxster and cayman which had more roundish lights now have a more triangular lights. 911 is to a degree the only exception because it retains a rounded light assembly at least. But even then its gotten very bulbous. I would rather the 911 look lile a frog then a bubble.

09 997

Have an opportunity to buy an 09 turbo, 6 speed, black exterior with beige interior, 89k miles. Seller asking 69k, clean title, just a minor damage back in 2013. Every bit of me is screaming that this is a steal deal. Am I not seeing something?

Edit: welp, after requesting a pre purchase inspection, the dealer almost bit my head off over the phone, told me to kick rocks, and hung up.. even after I offered to pay for delivery and inspection out of pocket.

997.1 Carrera S 3.8 to 4.1L rebuild - from windowed case to 406.6 HP

Here’s a 997.1 Carrera S engine project we recently wrapped up at Slakker.

This one started as a 3.8L M97.01 that came in after a track day failure. When this engine arrived, we knew something had gone wrong, but we did not know how bad it was going to be.

https://preview.redd.it/7bmsei8j0p9h1.jpg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7c86d441c43f72f463aa4ccb4fa4f71b8d21a23

From the outside, we could see the case had damage and inside was no different.

Windowed case, spun bearings, carrier damage, and the oil pan had plenty of metal in it. Definitely one of the gnarliest disassembles we have seen in a while.

From here, we save what could be saved, replace what could not be reused, and built it back better.

The engine was rebuilt as a 4.1L setup. Some of the parts and upgrades included:

  • Pauter rods
  • Hartech racing sump
  • 82mm plenum
  • UAOS setup
  • 8k valve spring package
  • Replacement case/components where needed
  • Full case work, sleeve prep, assembly, and dyno testing

The owner wanted something that would feel great on the street, handle a few track days, and still chase that 400 HP mark.

From the engine assembly, off it went to the dyno.

The cool part was that the owner flew in from Houston to be here for the dyno session. He got to see and hear the engine come to life in person, watch the tuning process, and be there when the final number came in.

Final result:

406.6 HP / 347.6 TQ

After everything this engine went through, seeing it come back together and hit the goal was a pretty satisfying way to close the loop.

From track day failure, to teardown carnage, to case work, to 4.1L rebuild, to dyno day, this one is now boxed up and heading back home to Houston.

Houston, we did not have a problem.
