FD / Fister Exhaust Recommendation and install guide
Team
After a lot of research - I went with the Fister / FD Motorsports “sport exhaust” (professional gundo) and did the core exchange.
10/10 happy with the result. I am an 07 C4S Cab 6-speed. Sounds is perfect. In my opinion - it’s OEM++ if Porsche sport exhaust (PSE) is OEM+.
Sound: very mechanical. Only noisy when you want it to be - under aggressive load. No drone. Cruising in town and on freeway - can’t tell difference from stock. Sound is less raspy than OEM and is best described by me as unmistakably Porsche, mechanical and perfect level of loud.
Install: once I actually figured out what is needed and not needed - easy as hell. ChaptGPT and Claude both had be doing like 30 extra steps (with good intent). I think they thought I was installing a full system.
My install experience and guide:
No need to remove rear bumper OR rear wheels
No need to remove any body or panels or heat shields
Process: jack up your car safely. If you don’t know hot to do it safely, don’t do this project,
I jacked up the rear only - stands on lowest setting.
I used a lot of PB blaster - but I am also a 17k mile southern car.your mileage may vary.
To get the mufflers OUT - it’s only 6 total bolts.
- 2 bolts connecting the rear muffler section to the mid-pipe. 13mm - right next to each other, muffler clamp style. That’s 2. Then - I went into the inner fender at the bottom near the wheel and removed the bar that keeps / holds the rear bumper in place. It’s a torx / star bit, right behind the rear wheel. Just remove the bottom (not the top connected to chassis). This is the third bolt.
Here is where I was initially mislead. The last 3 bolts are actually all on the side / inside of the mufflers. The muffler is mounted sort of vertical. There are R bolts (again 13mm) on the SIDE of the muffler (on the inside, near the engine side. They are not going up and down - rather sideways, connecting a crack to the muffler. Remove these and then the mufflers will Tetris / jenga their way out.
Once out of the car - there are 3 more bolts. Two 13mm that connect the muffler to the bracket - you’ll need a wrench 13mm and a 13mm socket, easy once the mufflers are out. Then you’ll need to remove the exhaust tips (also 13mm) and move to your new exhaust.
Install is reverse.
6 total bolts. 3 in the side of the muffler holding the bracket to the muffler, 2 at the back connecting to the mid pipe and 1 to help give you space with the bar that holds the rear bumper in place.
No shit - once you get the car in the air safely, I estimate the TOTAL install on both sides at one hour.
Highly highly recommend Fister / FD. Darrin is awesome, quality is great, sound is perfect for a daily or weekend fun car.
Removed Black Stone Guards
Removed the black stone guards and added clear PPF. Looks much cleaner without those. (2009 Targa)
Sunroof - I need advice on what is happening (is it normal or not) and what my options are
Hi ,
My sunroof started getting bounce back the other day. I took the car to a mechanic and he's pulled the lid off to have a look.
What he's found is the two sides of the sunroof, when operated, are moving at different speeds.
He then said the mechanism that is linked to either side is allowing movement (see video) where it shouldn't allow it.
I've only showed video from one side. The other had movement but not as dramatic.
What he's saying is that there are teeth that have warned down and no longer holding the mechanism which is allowing the movement.
A new cassette is astronomical $$$$
Help ?
997.1 GT3 wheel centers
While shopping for a 997.1 GT3 I came across those two different designs for silver wheel centers?
Would you know if one is after market and the other not or if those were two different options ? Feels like the black lettering is the usual one and I wonder where the transparent lettering one is coming from ..
Thanks.

A 2005 911 997.1 Carrera S
I've only owned it a day and my goodness this car has so much personality (also its check engine light has turned on...we have a complex relationship early doors 😄)
What a car, I love it!
997 front cage screws size
Hey there,
I have the original motorsport front cage (99758098590) but I am unfortunately missing the screws… and cannot find anywhere their specs.
It seems that there is two sizes, one small used to fix the different pieces together and one larger screw size to fix the cage to the floor. Does anyone knows the diameter and length of those screws??
Thanks 🙏🙏

New to the group - my 2007
Hello, I'm new to the group. This is my 2007 I recently picked up. I loved my old 944 back in the day but this is something else.
Abandoned 997 for more than 6 months
Who rolls with Cocomats?
I’m unsure which I prefer, the factory originals or cocomats. The cocomats offer some contrast in the sea of black but the factory looks, well, factory.
I purchased a 2011 911 about 2 years ago. Car had 62k miles, 3 instances of minor damage on carfax, and the perfect spec for me (including speed yellow).
I knew it was risky, but was willing to repair. Want to see what you all think of these repairs, any pattern or normal wear and tear?
- Drive belt and tensioner (I guess the tensioner got fully replaced)
- High pressure fuel pump, this was scary.
- AOS, and one of the hoses connected to it which split. This was not scary, only a whistling sound, no smoke.
- Frunk switch
In addition to these, I also did some regular maintenance items, like battery upgrade to AGM, pdk service, diff fluid, brakes, hood struts.
Does this seem like a reasonable amount of maintenance and repairs in 2 years for a 15 year old 65k mile 997.2? Anything else I should save up for HA?
