Lavender fields between July 29 and 31 in Sault and Valensole

Hi everyone!

My friend and I will be visiting Provence for the first time from July 28 to August 1, and we're really looking forward to it!

Visiting the lavender fields is one of the main reasons for our trip, but we've found that late July is the harvesting season in most areas. We wonder how the lavender fields usually look between July 29 and 31 in Sault and Valensole? Is there still a good chance of seeing beautiful lavender fields?

Our current plan is to live in Avignon. And we will rent a car to travel through Gordes, Roussillon, Arles, Sault, and Valensole. Do you have any suggestions for our plan? We're also wondering if there are any other villages or towns in Provence that you would recommend for first-time visitors. We love scenic villages, great local food, and beautiful landscapes, so we're very happy to accept any advice and change our plan!

Thanks so much!

Day trip to Calanques by boat

Happy Sunday everyone

I (31M) have been living in Aix for over a year and have yet to visit the Calanques or Marseille. I figured time to change that.

I also have my birthday coming and after years or doing absolutely nothing, I figured it's time to change it for once.

I was thinking about doing a day trip to visit the Calanques by boat. I don't swim but I don't mind going into shallow waters or with a vest.

Looking for any recommendations for tours etc.

I don't drive yet so would ideally like to reach the location by public transport.

I saw a few on Airbnb experiences and some other websites but would like any recommendations from peeps here.

My other option is to book a hotel/Airbnb somewhere in the region for a weekend and have a getaway. But this might turn out to be a bit more expensive given the season and last minute. But open to suggestions as well. I'd like to be close to the sea too, something with a view.

Hoping for any suggestions/ideas etc.

Thank you!

What beauty step felt unnecessary until you really started doing itt?

I used to think a lot of beauty advice was kind of extra until I realized some of it only sounds unnecessary when youre not doing it consistently. For me it was taking my nighttime routine seriously. Not a 12 step routine or anything but actually washing my face properly, moisturizing, using my solawave mask, putting my hair up before bed and not sleeping in whatever I wore around the house all evening like i used to.

None of it is dramatic but it makes me feel way more put together the next morning and now im just curious what everyone else has. What beauty step did you used to ignore or judge a little but now you really understand?

Accommodation scam "Cannes Croisette Sea & Sky"

Hello Everyone,

I've recently stayed in Cannes for the Lions and I got scammed by a guy that goes under "Felix" through Booking.com.

Me and another 2 people I know booked this stay and had the same issue: the day before the booking, the property writes to us (on WhatsApp) saying that the owner of the apartment is not responsive anymore, he doesn't know what to do since he already got the money of the reservation, and that he will need to find "another solution" for a higher fee.

My friends ended up paying 900 Euros more to secure the apartment. I did report the situation to Booking.com who was super helpful and helped me getting a full refund and book an alternative accommodation. Once reporting them, the property kept on writing me on WhatsApp insulting me and threatening me to not returning the money of the deposit. Booking.com will help with the refound of the deposit as well, but just wanted to alert the community that this is happening with "Cannes Croisette Sea and Sky". I've reported the chats and conversations to Booking.com to ensure this person is banned from the platform but I'm not sure this will happen....

First time in France

In July, from July 10th to 20th, I'll be in France for the first time, in the Pordenone region. I'll be traveling by car with my wife. What should I keep in mind when choosing a soybean there? I'm looking for some practical advice.

Holiday in France

Hi everyone!

I'm visiting France for the first time in mid-July and would love to get some advice from people who know the area.

My trip starts with an overnight stay in Colmar. After that I'll head to Lyon, where I'll have about half a day to explore before continuing to Provence.

I'll be staying near Arles for 5 nights, which will be the main part of my trip. How would you recommend spending those five days? What are the absolute must-see places, scenic drives, villages, or experiences in the area? I'm interested in beautiful landscapes, charming towns, good food, and anything that's really worth seeing.

On the way back to Poland, I'll have two more nights available. At the moment I'm thinking about stopping in Dijon and Strasbourg. Do you think that's a good plan, or would you recommend different places instead?

I'd really appreciate any suggestions or itinerary ideas. Thanks

Sisteron lamb

I’d like to go to a farm and buy fresh sisteron lamb in order to cook while I’m in Provence at the end of July (fresh meat and organs). Can you please recommend farms I can contact in order to reserve a lamb?

Spent Sunday chasing lavender from Valensole to Lac de Sainte-Croix (Provence)

Left home at 5:40am to beat the crowds and the heat. Worth it. Caught the sun coming up over the Luberon just before Mallemort, then hit the first lavender fields around 7am while they were still empty.

A few highlights:

  • Every lavender row starts with a cluster of spiderwebs at the entrance, never noticed that before. Makes sense once you think about why.
  • Detoured to Lac de Sainte-Croix on a whim, the water is absurdly turquoise where it meets the Gorges du Verdon.
  • Got stuck behind a tractor hauling freshly cut lavender for a few km. Rolled the windows down and just enjoyed it.
  • Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is one of the prettiest villages I've been to in Provence and somehow wasn't even the plan for the day.
  • My 9 year old dropped a melting scoop of sorbet on her mum mid-village. We were fighting flies in the car for the rest of the afternoon.

Fields were honestly more vibrant in the afternoon sun than at dawn, which surprised me.

Wrote up the full day, with more photos and the spots we stopped at, over on the site if anyone wants it: https://french-countryside-living.com/articles/a-day-chasing-lavender

Recommended trips / tours around Orange / Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Hello everyone,

I’m going to a concert in August in Orange (France) with a friend and because we have never been around this area we made a trip out of it.

We’ll be arriving in Orange on 19 August and would like to spend 20 and 21 August going on day trips. (We still have the 19th itself and the 22nd to see Orange). I love Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines and definitely want to visit the area, ideally to go on a wine tasting tour. We will travel by train from one city to another and my friend doesn't has a driving licence (but I have).

Can you recommend any places to visit? Is it worth booking a tour via GetYourGuide or TripAdvisor, or would you recommend hiring a car to drive ourselves?

It is hard to judge, but some of the Tour offers on GetYouGuide or TripAdvisor look a bit pricy - therefore I highly recommend your ideas / places / tours.

Also, before travelling to Orange we will be hiking in Cassis and I noticed there are some dive shops. I reached out to Narval and Cassis Calanques Plongée to get clearified if I can dive there but didn't get any reply so far (I don't speak french).

So if you have some recommendations about diving in Cassis I would be also very happy to hear from you.

Many thanks in advance!

Looking to hire a band or musician for a 60th birthday celebration in Provence

Hello, we will be staying in Saint Remy de Provence in July. we are going there to celebrate our parents 60 year old birthday. We will be staying in a villa and are looking for a band/musician to come and play on Tuesday July 21st. We are a group of 21 family members aged 0-60 and we’re hoping to find a band or musician that could play some nice music partly to be in the background but we would also like the opportunity to dance. We are considering a 1–2 hour gig. We have not yet found the right fit and I am wondering if anybody in this group could recommend someone that might be up for the task.

Nearby holiday locations

Hello! Our son moved to Marseille (10th arrondissement) three months ago. His apartment is only a studio, so we'd like to spend a week with him. He can visit us from time to time. Preferably in a large village or small town. Excluding Aix-en-Provence, or would you recommend somewhere to the east or north, please? He has a car, and we will have one too.

Please excuse my French, I'm learning, but slowly!

Product recommendations for an upcoming trip to France.

Greetings, I have an upcoming trip to France and I’m very interested in what product recommendations folks would have a pick up while in country.

A particular interest, to me would be aftershaves, balms, splashes and cologne. Would love your views on things I should be able to source locally there that are difficult to get here in the US.

Lacoste

Visiting Provence in September and thinking of making our home base in Lacoste. Will be there about 9 days and plan to visit Bonnieux, Lourmarin, Roussillon, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, and maybe Gordes, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence or
Les Baux-de-Provence. But we also plan on some take it easy and do nothing time!

Thoughts about staying in Lacoste? We found a great rental, don’t mind that it’s not as lively as some other places, but curious if anyone has some input. We’ll have a car for transporation.
