issues with my potassium nitrate sugar mixture

i have a 65-35 and everything is powdered like it should. however, every time I try to test it or light it it refuses to light keeps going out and burns slowly and the sugar visibly melts on top. The potassium nitrate was in bead form so I did re-crystallization in the oven at 200° with just potassium nitrate. I'm using commercial powdered sugar. after I burn it, it's also leaving this clumpy black residue. Any reason why? delete if not allowed in the sub reddit

Need Big Fireworks

I have been looking for big salute-style artillery shells, cakes, or rockets but have not been able to find ANY. Can anybody point me in the correct direction on how to get them?

Some builds I’m working on

3”x 9” shell I plan to have salute inserts as well as rings of C6 Ti stars

2” multibreak I want to do D1 glitter and possible Farfalle or N1 gold

Ball shells are already labeled
Still deciding what to do for the unfinished one

What could I use to hold a flammable substance to stick to the sword?

I’m currently running thread behind the sword that has a Tesla lighter attached that ignites lighter fluid. What would be an easier substance to use than thread? The thread burns up and falls apart and is a hassle reattaching

Diy BP corning/puck mold

Has anyone discovered a decent way to cheaply press pucks of BP for Corning? I know lots of ppl will probably say get the puck press from Woody's, but that's $150ish I could spend on chems or other stuff, I've managed to make perfectly good pumped stars using diy methods involving syringe body's with the tops cut off and wood dowels, so I was hoping someone had an idea on what I can use to make bp pucks, I have a shop press , so just the mold is all I need to figure out

NX star system question

I picked up all the chemicals to run the NX system to get my feet wet. From what I understand these are phenolic bound so require Acetone for the solvent.

I’m planning on pressing all my stars, is it acceptable to use a minimum quantity of acetone to moisten the material before pressing or do I need to get the material fully wet and keep kneading to dry it to a pressable state?

Remilling slow BP

I made my first batch of BP this week and under milled it and started with 35 mesh charcoal. Milled for 4 hours and did the mesh granulation and it’s, understandably, quite slow.

Can one re ball mill slow material for a substantially longer time? I’m only pressing my BP now so the water add would be minimal.

I’m pressing with a printed 1.187” Id tool to ~1.75 g/cm

Question regarding whistle mix

I was wondering how much Tons of pressure is whistle mix generally pressed to? Can’t seem to really find it clearly quoted anywhere, probably looking in the wrong place.

I assume different comps have different requirements, but does anyone have any info on this?

Just being curious.

I’m building an automatic firework launcher and idk how to connect the arduino mega to at least one 8 channel relay.

I am making a firework launcher for the fourth of july. I’ll try to explain it but i’ll link the tutorial that I was originally going off of but I had to guess where lots of the wires go because there was not a very good wiring diagram.

https://projecthub.arduino.cc/codemakesitgo/easy-firework-firing-system-c2f74b

So as far as I understand, the power goes from the 12V battery to the buck converter which makes it into 5V. the power then goes to the blue thingy on the mega sensor shield. There is also the remote switch, which I have been able to make click when I press the on button on the remote. The yellow wire goes to VIN+ on the FET switch, the white wire goes to the trig/ pwm part on the FET switch. The red wire goes to the 5V and the black wire goes to the GND each on the mega sensor shield. There is also a wire going from trig/pwm part of the FET switch to A0 on the Mega Sensor Shield. There are also wires going from the numbers on the mega sensors shield to the 8channel relays from IN1-IN8. and just as a side note: The FET switch, tbh I have no idea what it does but the guy from the tutorial has it and the power is still getting through without burning the arduino so 🤷‍♀️.

Those are all the wires. I have no idea how to get the power from the arduino mega to the 8 channel relays. I have added code to make an LED blink it did not work. As you can see in the photos there are 4 of the 8 channel relays and that is my end goal. But for now I want to just get one working. I truly am lost from here and it’s not like i’m an electrical engineer, in fact i’m literally a hs freshman. This is truly a last resort and does anyone have advice.
