Someone has been rearranging my shoes outside my apartment door for months. Help me figure out who and why.

I have a relatively peculiar "problem" that I genuinely can't figure out, so I'm hoping someone here can help.

I have been living on the 2nd floor of an apartment building for about a year, with 4 apartments per floor. Each apartment door has a small recessed alcove, so you can place a doormat there without it blocking the hallway or escape route. When I get home and my shoes are wet or dirty i like to leave them outside on my mat. since I (F) live alone they are sometimes just scattered randomly across it. Nothing valuable: rain boots, worn-down uggs, basic chucks. And they don't smell either (my boyfriend confirmed).

As soon as my shoes have been outside for more than a day or two, someone (hereafter: the culprit) rearranges them so they are standing upright, leaning neatly against my door frame. this has happened countless times. They've never gone missing or been tampered with in any other way.

I have already ruled out a few suspects. It can't be my boyfriend since it happend plenty of times when he's not around. it can't be a cleaner since the stairwell is never actually cleaned, it's perpetually dirty. And fire safety complaints seem unlikely as a motive since several neighbors have their entire doormats sitting out in the actual hallway, including the guy next to me who had winter boots out there for 4 days straight without anyone touching them, while my shoes were rearranged multiple times in that same period.

One interesting data point: my boyfriends shoes, left next to mine for a day, were also rearranged once, so it's not purely anti-me, or at least not anti-my-shoe-size.

My friends suggested propping my old phone against the peephole to record the hallway, which isn't an option since it's almost certainly illegal in germany. I'm open to other ideas though, ideally ones that don't get me in trouble.

so: any theories on why someone would do this, and how do i catch them?

Edit: https://imgur.com/a/hCzlHjd here are images of the hallway and my shoes

Dad's Best Friend Passed Away - No information on how

I have no clue whether this is the right subreddit for this, but I feel bad that my dad may never get answers on this and wanted to try posting here. Also hoping to not violate any of the subreddit rules.

When I was growing up, my dad was in a band with his best friend, Kevin (not sure if I'm allowed to post a full name). We moved several states away about 10 years ago and they naturally stopped interacting as much as before due to distance and busy lives. Kevin bought a small property in the town that my dad lives in and his plan was to move into it eventually, but he was paying people from a distance to fix things up in it.

A couple of years ago, my dad stopped by Kevin's house in town to check on it and he ran into someone from the city who said they were wondering what was going to happen to the house. My dad was confused, but he hadn't talked to Kevin for a while and didn't know if he'd planned to sell it. The guy from the city told him that they'd gotten a call from the someone in the city that Kevin lived in, informing them that he'd been found dead. They must have been investigating properties that he owned because the probate case started around that time. All my dad was able to find out from them was that Kevin and his elderly mother were found by a neighbor a month after their deaths in their home. He tried calling the police department in Kevin's city, but they wouldn't release any information.

There was never a real obituary published for either Kevin or his mother, just a page saying they were cremated. There were no news articles or press releases about it. Kevin didn't have any family besides his mother and a really unpleasant brother he never spoke to who's still fighting for his estate in court. Unfortunately there's no one who my dad knows who would be able to tell him what happened. It makes me very sad that they died alone in that house though and were forgotten about without any record of what happened and my dad obviously felt very upset about it.

I'm not sure if there's any way to get details about how someone passed away, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. I know it's a little gruesome, but it might bring my dad some closure.

The RBI Friends in "The Mystery of the Damp Cardboard"!

This is quite possibly the most inconsequential mystery ever, but I'm fixated on it.

BACKSTORY:

I buy and sell things online as a hobby / side hustle. So I have a lot of shipping boxes stored on one side of the garage. They're resting on a small wire rack about 3' high, and from there stacked on top of one another, still assembled from when I got them in the mail, with the bottom edges taped, not flattened out. Above this hangs an old plywood board with chains at the 4 corners, suspending it from the ceiling, with some more mailing supplies stacked on top.

THE LOCKED ROOM:

The other day I was looking for the right sized box to ship an item, and noticed one of the boxes at the top of the stack, resting about 8" below the plywood overhang, had a single circular wet spot on it about 3" in diameter. It was not wet when I first put it up there, days or possibly weeks ago. There was enough liquid to soak through to the other side of the cardboard. But none of the other boxes were wet.

There are no pipes running near the boxes. The room above the garage is part of the house. It was not caused by a ceiling leak, and the thick plywood overhang would have shielded the boxes had there been one. There was no dampness on the plywood. The wall the boxes rest against is an outer wall, but there are no cracks or breaks in it for water to have seeped through.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS:

My first thought was rodent urine, but the spot did not have an odor, only smelling of wet cardboard. I doubt that a rodent could have scaled the boxes to that height without toppling some of them, as they are assembled (bottom edges taped together), stacked unsecured, and would be somewhat precarious for a creature that size to climb. Further, there were no feces, no evidence of gnawing on any of the boxes, and again the only wet spot was on the single box. The underside surface of the plywood does not offer sufficient grip for a rodent to cling to it and piddle downward onto the box from a hanging position. Finally, while I know nothing of the bladder capacities of rodentia, the size of the spot, taking into account its soaking through to the other side, seems a bit too extensive for a single instance of urination from a single verminous mammal.

The garage door is down all day when I am away. I live alone, and the only other person with access to the garage is an elderly family member who (1) was not there that day, (2) could not reach up that high even if they were, and (3) would have no motivation to spill any liquid on the box. The items I sell are inside the house, not stored with the boxes, and are not liquids of any kind. The damp spot was not ectoplasmic, and I do not believe in ghosts.

So, RBI Friends, any ideas what could have caused this?

Thank you for reading my mystery.

When to file a missing persons report? (Adult)

Hello I’m looking for advice for filling a missing persons report on an adult. If this is the wrong sub please let me know and I will delete this.
I’m trying to keep emotions out of this even though I am worried. But trying to be as factual with all of the info I do have.

This would be my child’s father. He is a known drug addict, his last contact info is no longer valid(home address and phone number).
He does go a while no contact. My last known contact with him was via text 1/6/2026, phone number no longer in his name (I text it today to confirm)

I’ve checked the county jail(they have an inmate look up online) and all of the city court case look ups in this county along with a few neighboring cities in other counties that he’s been known to frequent. No recent charges(nothing past court appearances for child support show cause hearing April 9th that he did not show up to, also not out of the ordinary for him)

So typically he will go dark, let his phone service lapse and live out of a car or on the streets, even sometimes attending rehab treatment centers. Typically though he stays in this county and people will just let me know if they have seen him walking around or run into him at 12 step meetings.

The last that I know that anyone has actually physically seen him was the end of February, my best friend happened to see him walking down a main road and let me know.

I am in the recovery community so I asked a few people who are in the program and past of outreach programs if they have seen or heard from him. They have asked around and kept an eye out and so far nothing.

It’s very likely that I am the only one looking for him or has any interest in his whereabouts and wellbeing. Such is the life with drug addicts. He’s burned a lot of bridges with family and friends. I just want to know if he’s alive basically.

So my question is, what is my next step? Do I start calling hospitals and coroners offices with his description? Or do I file a missing persons report and they would look into that for me? I know with his history of drug usage and disappearing that being a legitimate missing person may be harder to prove. He’s never gone more than 2 months with 0 contact. He usually has hit someone up for help or money by now.

Thank you in advance any advice would be appreciated.

Weird Instagram page @hfcampaign

So I stumbled across this weird Instagram page, in which there is a woman named Alyssa Couture constantly uploading videos of approximately 20 minutes talking Infront of a camera talking to someone called Shia, in her bio she says “wife of Shia Labeouf (not the public figure)” but her profile picture consists of her picture with the actor Shia Labeouf. She is always mentioning that how much she misses Shia and documents her misery while talking Infront of a camera.

I have no idea what really is going on but her videos are kind of weird, please look into it and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Does anyone know the story behind the Australian wrapping paper brand ABC Wrap (seemingly from the 2000s)?

Here are their three unique designs that I'm aware of:

And here are some questions I have about ABC Wrap, if anyone can answer them:

  1. What year was the ABC Wrap brand founded?
  2. What year were each of these three designs released?
  3. Has ABC Wrap ever released any other products? If so, what designs did they have, and were they designed by the same person as any of the three known designs?

I have searched around for the answers, without much luck so far. In April 2025, I tried contacting Creative Selection, the distributor of ABC Wrap, but have not heard back from them. More recently, I have also tried asking a few groups online, but nobody has been able to answer these questions so far. If it helps, this wrapping paper was found in Batemans Bay, Australia.

Finding IP Address / Additional Information From An Email Address?

Hi! Was hoping for some help. My boyfriend has been receiving emails from a bogus gmail address. We initially assumed it to be an ex-coworker of his, who is dying of a brain tumor and has fixated on my boyfriend since leaving the office. That might still be the case but today he sent an email alluding to a wedding we were at last night. That means he's either stalking us IRL, or following one of my family members' accounts, all of which are set to private. The messages don't really amount to stalking, legally speaking, but I would sleep better knowing who this is and limiting their access online. So, basically: How much can I do with an email address? Any way to see if it's linked to any Instagram accounts? Other gmails? IP Address?

Unexplained but oddly useful packages being ordered on my Amazon account

So let me start by saying I’m not on Ambien

Last month, my (27f) fiancée (28m) tells me that a (somewhat pricey) e-reader has been delivered to our home via Amazon, but neither of us bought one so he asks me to check my purchase history on Amazon because he’s weirded out by this. Sure enough, there’s the e-reader. And I found the charge on my credit card.

I didn’t know this at the time, but turns out he’s been wanting an e-reader just like this one, so I told him to keep it and moved on from trying to figure out what happened

Fast forward to the other day I’m picking up an Amazon package and included in it is the same card deck fiancée uses to store his trading cards. I never ordered one and neither did the fiancée - he doesn’t get his decks on Amazon. And he never so much as searched for an e-reader or a card deck on Amazon. And yet I check and sure enough there it is in my purchase history.

I’ve never been one to buy things in my sleep. No one else has access to my Amazon account that I know of, nor my credit card. Fiancée also wouldn’t lie, he’s an incredible man who is just as weirded out as me. So what gives? Two purchases in a row both landing squarely in his interests feels odd.

Update: I think u/9bikes figured out the e-reader! The card deck is still a mystery

Finding Vehicle Owner Info

In North Carolina, how could a private person potentially identify someone from a license plate without police involvement? I’m trying to understand what kinds of databases or indirect methods exist.

Context: My unhinged ex used my current partner’s plate info to find out who he is. I don’t think the ex has friends in law enforcement.

Ex had multiple affairs, took money, promised repayment, then disappeared. Looking for realistic options.

**Situation**

A few years ago, I dated someone who abruptly vanished from my life. Before that happened, I found out she had been lying to me in serious ways and was involved with multiple other men at the same time.

Then, about a year ago, she came back into my life. Emotions got involved again, and she guilted me into send her money. Then, she immediately blocked me and a month later was vacationing in Mexico.

Currently, I am preparing myself to walk away emotionally. But before I do, I wanted to make one final honest attempt at trying to get answers.

**Context & Request**

I have a fair amount of her PII (emails, phone, city, etc). from when we dated, but this likely need someone talented in OSINT or other options.

This person resides in Germany. I'm from the USA. Its my understanding that this person is traveling in canada and i've long suspected her of being a cam girl/sex worker/sugar baby.

I feel like I have to share this

About 8 months ago, something happened to me that I still think about almost every day.

It was around 10:30 PM and I was driving home from my ex-boyfriend’s place. He lived outside of Columbia, Missouri, in this tiny little town called Harrisburg. He was renting this old house from a relative out in the middle of nowhere. I couldn’t stay the night because I had a job interview early the next morning, so I was driving back to my apartment in Columbia even though I was exhausted.

I was heading south on this isolated back road somewhere between Woodlandville and Hinton. Hardly any cars, no houses, just woods on both sides of the road. Then I noticed this bright light deep in the trees. At first I tried to ignore it, but something about it bothered me enough that I pulled over.

The light looked almost like an old sodium street lamp glowing in the middle of the woods. That alone was weird enough, but then I heard something. At first it sounded faint, almost like the wind. Then I realized it was a person screaming. I rolled my window down to listen better. It sounded far away, but constant. Not angry screaming, terrified screaming. The kind of scream you hear in horror movies right before someone dies.

I remember sitting there trying to convince myself it was probably an animal or maybe someone messing around, but I still got out of the car.

I walked a few feet toward the trees and that’s when I realized the light wasn’t a street lamp at all. It was a flashlight duct taped to a tree. And hanging right underneath it was a radio.

The radio was turned on to 103.5 FM, and through the static it was broadcasting that same screaming sound on a loop. Just nonstop screaming that never changed or stopped. The second I understood what I was looking at, I got this overwhelming feeling that I should not be there. It’s hard to explain, but every instinct in my body started telling me to leave immediately.

I stood there for maybe two seconds longer before running back to my car. I locked the doors and drove away as fast as I could without looking back.

I tried convincing myself afterward that it was probably some kind of Halloween prank since it was late October, but honestly, something about it felt wrong. Too deliberate. Too isolated.

I’ve never told many people about this because it sounds made up, but it genuinely happened, and it still creeps me out thinking about it.

My dad said something wierd and I can't get it out of my head

I don't even know if this is the right place for this. I want to start off by saying I am a teenager who comes from a "no secrets" family. We're quite close, though I don't share exactly the same beleifs as my family. This being said, I recently (about 6 months ago) descovered something about my dad. He's autistic, and has really bad PTSD from working as a firefighter when I was a baby, so he gets frustrated and yells easily, though he always apologises afterwards. Anyways, we were on holiday with me, my mam, my dad, my sister, my grandfather and grandmother on both sides of my family, when my dad said something strange. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was along the lines of "yeah, (my mothers name), but they (grandparents) don't know what it's like being tied up as a minor" then my mother gave him a look and gestured towards me. My dad later told me that he would tell me "when I'm older" which usually does mean he will tell me, but this feels like he doesn't want to, and is hoping I'll forget.

I guess, what I want to know, is how the hell do I go about looking for possible information on this? I've already searched things such as "child kidnappings [fathers childhood town] 1980-1990s" as well as variations including my fathers full name. So what's your advice?

What is going on with McHenry, IL?!?

If you go to the global Geiger counter map https://www.gmcmap.com/ and look at the northeast of Illinois, you'll find McHenry. Now click on the counter there and look at the history. It's got some data points over a million CPM (counts per minute)!! This doesn't look good at all! What's going on there?

Looking for clues about a popular webcomic artist who disappeared from the internet

I've been looking for clues about Mothtrap, the author of Raining Knives, a webcomic with over 4m views. They're one of my favorite artists, I followed their webcomic while it was still updating (near the end with 5 eps left) around 2019, I remember they used to post art from their next project, a sci-fi themed comic called "Rat City".

Mothtrap disappeared from the internet around 2021 , deleting their Twitter and Instagram accounts. The only clues I could find about predates 2021: A tumblr account known as tenmillionmoths, with a lots of deleted artwork, which some can still be seen through old reblogs ,and using waybackmachine, I discovered an even older tumblr blog and a soundcloud account. On soundcloud , I found out they made OST for an Android game called Botquest, from a studio named Miaplacidus Multimedia.

What intrigues me the most is that nobody seems to have ever talked about this or tried to find some permanent hiatus note, even with their notable popularity in webcomic and artistic niche.

I hope they're doing well and maybe just changed their nickname. If anyone has a clue, just let me know.

Yu Menglong's death updates? and theories

I was trying to look for any updates regarding this famous Chinese actor's death, but I found stuff that was months old and I find it pretty odd for someone as famous as him and a death so sh4dy.

And I can't believe how ppl completely rule out any suspicious activities based on the information that police gave yall within nearly 6 hours of finding his dead body. And the amount of censorship that I've seen on his entire existence is diab0lical.

Anyhow, I would really wanna know whether anybody still cares about it? I'm sure there are ppl out there but maybe I can't find them.

And if you're one of the ppl who believe his death was nothing but a mere accident u can tell me your pov as well.

What outcomes are generally considered most likely in long term disappearances?

My cousin (who was like a brother to me) disappeared nearly 7 years ago in the UK, and I still think about the uncertainty around cases like this.

I don’t want to share identifying details because it’s still technically an open investigation, but he was a very young adult who had become increasingly mistrustful and isolated before disappearing far from home.

There were no confirmed sightings afterwards, no financial trail that we know of, no documentation trail, and very little clarity overall.

I know nobody online can know an individual situation for certain, but I’m interested in hearing from people familiar with missing persons cases, homelessness, mental illness, neurodivergence, exploitation, or long term disappearances about what outcomes are generally considered most likely over time.

I’m not expecting anyone to “solve” anything. I’m genuinely okay with blunt or realistic perspectives, btw, or even with you speculating freely. I think after years of uncertainty, I’m more interested in hearing different and honest opinions rather than reassurance.
