Harassed at Cordova Town Center light rail

Was waiting for the train at Cordova Town Center today. Three punks were harassing a homeless man right there on the road. Then they all came to me. The guy in front of me asked me to fight him, I said I wasn't interested, so he called me a bitch. They started faking punches at me, pulling their arms back like they were about to swing, stopping short, trying to get me to flinch or react, called me racial slurs. Mocked my accent and speech impediment. They were not at all stopping. I felt like running away. I was completely cornered by these 3 idiots. No way out. So I started recording, and they gave the camera the middle finger, kept mocking me.

Even with the recording they weren't stopping so I called the cops while it was happening and they still stood around when I was on the phone with police. Even after I got on the phone with the operator, they kept circling back toward me before finally walking off once they saw I was still on the call. Cops said there's not much that can be done after the fact, but I'm posting this because this kind of thing (going after a homeless man, then harassing a stranger's speech and accent, fake swings) isn't something to just shrug off.

At the end, I kept distance, they were gone. I took my train home safely.

Rancho Cordova will hold 2nd District election with one candidate, costing $14K+

The Rancho Cordova City Council decided to put an unopposed candidate before voters rather than appoint him to the 2nd District seat, a decision expected to cost the city more than $14,000.

Needed: Electrical engineering plans to file with Rancho Cordova for a DIYish home battery install.

Home battery install prices are crazy high compared to doing it yourself. The biggest hurdle for me is with permits and inspections.

Anyone want to double up with me on a group buy of plans + hardware? I have the electrician lined up and hardware already in a shopping cart with all the bits and bobs.

Does anyone know of a small firm or person that drafts engineering plans to file permits with Rancho Cordova for DIY battery install?

I'm going to DIY install an EG4 battery system with a GridBoss + FlexBoss21 + 2x 16kw batteries. These are all UL listed together. I can do the install and wire the batteries + flexboss to the GridBoss (MID). I already have a unionized electrician that will run the wires from the meter to the cutoff switch and then to my MID, and back to my main panel.

What I need are electrical engineering plans to file with Rancho Cordova to get the permit and to file with the fire department, etc.

Any help is appreciated.

Save on property tax. Don't forget to file your decline in assessment

Last month I had launched a pilot to help bay area homeowners file an informal decline in value assessment. The response was overwhelming and more than 1,000 people have checked their property and it has so far saved an average of $2,800 per filing for tens of filers.

I am now making it available with deadlines approaching for property owners in SAC. Checking is free and you pay a flat $29 to file. You are only allowed to file if there are savings estimated.

The website automatically pulls comps based on Publication 30 rules, fills out the form, and for SAC residents automatically faxes it to the county assesor's office.

Go check if you qualify: https://saveproptax.com/

Where/how to best serve unhoused neighbors in Rancho Cordova?

Other than donating to local orgs and volunteering with our local food bank, what are some other ways to better support our unhoused neighbors?

(PLEASE no negativity or debates, I’d like this comment section to simply be a resource for those of us whose hearts are pulled to serve and support our fellow humans.)

****
UPDATE: Rancho Cordova resources for unhoused neighbors ❤️** (so far)..**.

I asked this exact same thing on Facebook, Reddit AND Nextdoor and got a ton of genuinely helpful suggestions (except on facebook... curiouser and curiouser...)

ANYWAY, I wanted to compile the best ones here so neighbors who want to help have something easy to save/share… and so we can give someone an actual resource instead of telling them to “just Google it”, when half this stuff DOESN'T COME UP ON A GOOGLE SEARCH!! 😅

🏠 LOCAL / REGIONAL RESOURCES:

Rancho Cordova Homeless Outreach Team: https://www.ranchocordovapd.com/our-teams/homeless-outreach-team
Our city's dedicated outreach team. They can connect unhoused neighbors with outreach/services and a Rancho Cordova Navigator.

Rancho Cordova HART: https://www.ranchocordovahart.org/
Local homeless-assistance coalition offering essentials, referrals, transitional-housing support and programs including Winter Sanctuary.

St. Vincent de Paul / St. Mel Homeless Ministry:
https://svdp-95628.webador.com/homeless-ministry
Fair Oaks-based volunteer outreach that goes directly into the community every Monday and Thursday with bagged lunches, water, toiletries, clothing and other supplies. They may also help connect people with other sources of assistance or guidance. They’re currently looking for volunteers and donations too!

Capital Compassion: https://www.capitalonline.cc/
Local organization supporting homelessness and food insecurity. Their respite services include meals and other basic-needs support; a representative in the comments also shared that they offer showers, laundry and connections to additional agencies.

Wind Youth Services: https://www.windyouthservices.org/
For Sacramento-area youth ages 12–24 experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, including basic-needs services and safe shelter options.

211 Sacramento: https://www.211sacramento.org/211/
Call 2-1-1 and press 8 for homelessness services. They can help connect someone to shelter/services and Sacramento's Coordinated Access System. You can also call 916-498-1000.
NOTE: Some commenters have noted that this service (211) does NOT work as described; callers might be redirected to the general welfare office... this info has not yet been confirmed.

SHRA / Sacramento housing waitlists: https://www.shra.org/
Longer-term housing programs and waitlists can be found through SHRA/SacWaitlist. These are NOT necessarily immediate housing solutions, but it may still be worth helping someone get connected and onto applicable lists.

🎒 EASY WAYS NEIGHBORS CAN HELP:
Keep water, snacks or blessing bags in your car with things like:
• Socks!!
• Hygiene + feminine hygiene products
• Wet wipes
• Sunscreen / chapstick
• Easy shelf-stable foods
• Pop-top canned foods
• Water
• Seasonal hats/blankets
• Dog food for neighbors with pets
• A kind note ❤️

TIP:
On HOT days: freeze water bottles before heading out, or bring a cooler with water/popsicles.

Please add any other Rancho Cordova resources below!! Especially the little organizations/programs that don't show up easily online..... exactly why compiling our neighborly knowledge is so valuable. ❤️
