After playing AW Remastered, AW: American Nightmare and almost finishing Control* Ultimate Edition. I finally started Quantum Break… 20 minutes in… and immensely disappointed by the intro.

EDIT: I JUST REMEMBERED that Turing’s Test was the same. It literally had the same issue. However, unlike Quantum Break, developers actually had an excuse. A god awful excuse though… still it seems Quantum Break isn’t the only game with this obnoxious design choice.

(*: I haven’t finished Control because I am in another city for a month so I can’t access my PlayStation. After I go back to my city, I will finish Control Ultimate Edition by playing the last main mission of The Foundation. In the meantime, I started Quantum Break.)

What the hell was Remedy thinking? Alan Wake supports subtitles for radios and TV. Control supports subtitles for radios and TV as well.

Meanwhile, Quantum Break does not support subtitles for collectibles. Seriously, what the actual fuck Remedy? What the hell were you thinking? This is single-handedly, the most obnoxious bullshit that I have seen in any videogame and it makes Remedy looks like a moron. I tell this as a person who played FF Type-0 HD and that game had better subtitle support despite its other issues.

As a person that ended up as a Remedy fan, this is just disappointing and frustrating.

It's back in stock!

Link: https://www.future-press.com/shop/the-art-and-making-of-control-25th/

Text from their Facebook page:

The response to the reprint of The Art and Making of Control has been much stronger than we anticipated, and we’re very sorry that some customers are currently waiting longer than expected. We are moving stock between regions and preparing additional copies to meet demand, which unfortunately takes a little time.

Please rest assured that your copy is reserved, and your order will be fulfilled. In some cases, delivery may take until early August, as some orders will need to wait until a final smaller reprint is ready to ship.

We’ve also seen copies appearing on resale platforms at heavily inflated prices. Please don’t feel pressured to pay those prices. This reprint was made for fans, and our goal is to make sure everyone who wants a copy can get one directly from us at the regular price.

Lastly, an unfortunate bug on our website temporarily prevented the book from being available in recent weeks. This has now been fixed, the book can be purchased again, and it’s not too late to place an order. Our promise to fulfil all orders also applies to orders placed today and over the coming weeks.

Thank you very much for your patience and support.

Fanon Extended Universe Idea

Idk how much this sub likes or hates this kind of posts, but I've been thinking a lot about these games and how cool it would be if they were in the same universe/multiverse. I choose games/series that have a lot in common between them imo, including how I feel about them.

Remedy:

  • Alan Wake
  • Quantum Break
  • Control

Bloober:

  • Layers of Fear
  • The Medium
  • Cronos
  • I hate this place (if it was an original ip)

Tango:

  • The Evil Within
  • Ghostwire Tokyo

Funcom:

  • The Secret World (and connected)

Some possible extra ones:

Housemarque:

  • Saros
  • Returnal

Airtight Games (rip):

  • Dark Void
  • Murdered: Soul Suspect

Considering also:

  • Haex (by the looks of it).

Let me now if you know other games with similar vibes.

I've also had quick, small, silly idea even on how the timelines might be distributed (last image, half made with ai, I admit), there are 3 main time lines:

  • the right one is our world (for arg reasons)
  • the middle one is where most games set in a world very similar to ours, but with lots of weird things that are kept secret from the public. This time line act as a "wall" between the previous one and the next one.
  • the left one is where everything has gone wrong (like The Secret World), split into various possible smaller ones

Return | Initiation

I wasn't properly educated on how copyright works with music on so I was going to post this on another platform (i won't mention the platform or link my socials because i don't wanna self promote) and it wouldn't let me post it due to copyright reasons for the song and I completely understand. I just want this to be seen, I spent days on this and this isn't even the full edit because of Reddit's file size restrictions haha. I hope you guys can enjoy this!

Sam Lake discussion at Tuska metal festival

I will be going to the Tuska metal festival in Helsinki, which starts today and ends on Sunday. I was going through the program and noticed that Sam Lake will be joining for a discussion on Saturday 6pm local time.

From the Tuska website:

Art that changes Reality with Remedy’s Sam Lake

Both Kiki and Jussi welcome the creative force behind the Remedy Connected UniverseSam Lake, to review how our lived reality has influenced the fictional stories he writes – and how the fantastic worlds he creates echo back into our own.

You will not want to miss this unreal session with insights into the decades of storytelling that drive Remedy’s signature blend of mystery, metafiction, and human darkness. We’ll explore why certain narratives resonate so deeply, and how there’s definitely some “Art that changes Reality”.

I will definitely try to catch that if I can!

Unpopular opinion - Remedy should use Radiohead songs in their games

have u guys listened to radiohead ? i don't know why but i always make a connection between radiohead and alan wake 2 maybe because the actor IIkka villi and the singer thom yorke (when he wears a black suit) gives similar vibes with long hairs and beard
and when i hear progressive rock songs like the daily mail, pyramid song or everything in its right place, i instantly think of alan wake 2 or control, perhaps the game and the songs are both dark

Why do enemies in Remedy games all ramble incoherent, literary clichés?

I am slowly working my way through Remedy's games, and I like them a lot. They have this unique flavour to them: a neat balance between pulpy, campy, self-aware fun, and dark, dense, thematic richness that I find extremely compelling and totally unlike the works of any other studio.

This is just to preface that I do really like their games, so even if what I am about to say might sound more negative than I intend, just know that I am a fan, and I'm asking out of genuine curiosity.

Why does every single enemy, I believe the only exceptions are animals and the "taken objects" in Alan Wake, ramble on and on in incoherent clichés? I honestly find it a little overbearing, and the things they say a bit cringe.

It does make sense in Alan Wake: "the dark presence" works as a metaphor for artistic self-doubt, the name "Scratch" explicitly referring to the sound of covering over mistakes and regrets with a pen, violently. To my understanding, the enemies' rambling is an expression of the same thing: their endless, incoherent speech is dominated by "bad" writing, in contrast to what you find in the manuscripts, which are actually quite well written for the most part. I'm currently playing Alan Wake 1 at the moment, and while I do find it a bit monotonous, I can still accept it for what it's doing.

But why does the Hiss in Control do it too? I'm not too deep into the lore, so I'm sorry if I missed it in the mountain of collectibles, but thematically, Control is not about art, let alone writing? not the base-game at least.
I get that it's supposed to sound weird, ritualistic and creepy, but I quickly got used to it and it turned a little cringe after that.

Once again, I very much like the games, all of them, and this rambly chant is my only big gripe.

EDIT: Is the answer simply "because Alan Wake"? Does the rambling in Control really have no self-contained thematic meaning?
